    Yanno bud, I like that you use equipment that us "non professionals" use. I noticed you use Penn reels, we can all afford. I've seen how some of these guys with TH-cam channels, have these high dollar equipment. Thanks for being one of us. 👍

      It definitely was a defeat! Beautiful day to be on the beach though. Thanks for the comment!

    Try using spoons on clear sunny days. And cut up mullet on days with lower visibility. I've had luck with spoons on the pier there and in the surf.

    Great video! Great conditions. Surf fishing sometimes requires changing tactics, look for structure - like looking for a spot on the beach where the waves break different than the rest. On a out going tide, I fish the gulf side of a wave, in coming tide, fish the beach side. I would have set a cut bait out on a long rod, just for grins. Also would have thrown a silver spoon. Looks like you had a blast with the lady fish. I saw someone mention your casting style, to each their own. Good job on the video and getting back to your family. New subscriber. Tight lines.

      I appreciate the comment! I think something else that was hurting me was the extreme clarity of the water. I consistently had fish follow my lure in, they would just spook before striking at it. It was a blast either way! I'll have to throw a piece of cut bait out there next time as well. Thank you for the subscription!

    Hey my friend, keep at it. I’ve watched Brant at AnglerUp who does a nice job on the surf or salt water ponds, but that’s the panhandle of Florida. You’ll succeed.

    Interesting cast you do, flipping the bail open with your right hand, and switching hands, then flipping it closed with your left. I’ve never seen that before. I fish right handed baitcasters and swap hands, and am right-handed, but with my spinning rig, I never swap hands. Anyway, good vid in that clear low surf with lots of bait and predators.

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never thought about that before. Not sure why I have developed that style, but there must be a reason. My only guess would be that in some cases when the bail is oriented in a way that keeps my line out of reaching distance from my pointer finger, the natural thing for me to do is use my right hand to flip the bail and grab the line at the same time. After casting I just flip it back over with my left hand because it's going that direction already to reel. Thanks for pointing that out!

    Good call on the gold spoon. I’m surprised you didn’t catch Spanish mackerel. They do have sharp teeth though. You will need a strong leader.

      I'm surprised as well. That water was so incredibly calm and clear. I wish I had my fly rod. A more delicate presentation might have helped me out.

    I would have waded out to the 2nd sandbar a little deeper water and tried there. Anyway, listening to a Nick Meyer surf report it appears that lures were not working very well Saturday and Sunday. When I go fishing in the surf l always take a big surf rod with dead shrimp and tipped with fish bites and see if I could snag a drum, redfish, or pompano.
    I used to bay fish but just surf fish now. You can bring your wife and kids and it does not require a lot of stuff. Plus you never know what you can catch.

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll be honest, the reason I didn't wade out to the second sandbar was because I forgot my head mount for the gopro... Next time the camera is going on my head instead of my chest! Surf fishing in that calm water was awesome. I'm definitely hooked! Thanks for the comment!
