1:54 you hit the nail on the head when it comes to how "shruti" works in Indian classical music. Our scales are slightly different tonally from Western music, but that slight difference creates a DRASTIC change in how relationships between notes are expressed.
I don't think that any Indian classical thaat or raag is based on Shrutis , they(raag) are in chromatic scale of 12 notes it's just the scale and ornaments of singing which makes the difference

Wrt what you called prelude…ref your Moroccan music comment, it’s called Aalap in Hindustani (Indian) classic music. Before the main composition it’s common for classical musicians to do this. In sitar music aalap goes on for a looong time and also aalapi in dhrupad style can go on and on. For a different flavour do check out Dhrupad singing by the Gundecha brothers.

The background sound is called a tanpura, it's a droning sound with all the notes do re mi fa ..........playing at the same time. So if he sings a note correctly the tanpura complements his voice, but if the note is incorrect the tanpura will give a bad feedback. That's the job of tanpura

There are no gamakas in western music and this music there are 15 gamakas
