If u could please react to sunny hindustani he is indian idol 11 winner. In your earlier video you reacted to indian idol 10 winner salman ali & loved it.
I enjoyed re-listening to this piece again with you, Hrvoje. Music truly is a universal language. The initial part, where Mahesh was humming and exploring the raga was in Raag Malkauns. If you would like to hear another wonderful performance in Raag Malkauns, I recommend this one. th-cam.com/video/g8Su1mShMKc/w-d-xo.html . It's too long to make a reaction video to, but just for your own enjoyment.
I can't thank you enough for choosing to react and appreciate this kind of Music. This is a song which denotes a lot of devotion & spirituality to the lord Vitthal(an avatar of Lord Krishna). And what shall I even write about the legend Mahesh kale, he is great. And, in case you are interested, The meaning of the song name is Kanada=of a region called kannad/karnataka, Raja=King, Pandharicha= Situated at place called Pandhari(or Pandharpur in Maharashtra, India).
This Marathi song actually about God while listening just close eyes, it's feel so divine... Lyrics also beautiful as song.... As grown up listening to modern Hindi, English song... This guy came and show us how classical songs also beautiful.
Not couple of Raags. He is singing Raag Malkauns. First part is called Aalapi up to 5:45. The type of song is called Abhang which is in the praise of lord Vithoba i.e. Krishna. In Indian culture, you can reach the god with chanting. In the last, he was doing it with children. He carried complete auditorium to next level with his singing.
Mahesh Kale holds a Bachelor degree in Electronics Engineering and a master's degree in Engineering Management from Santa Clara University. He and his wife run a non-profit Indian Classical Music and Arts Foundation together in San Francisco Bay Area.
Saw him perform a 2 hour set this month at 8am in morning. It was amazing listening to him belting out classical tunes early morning. He teaches in San Francisco area.
When you sing it is a single raag. The improvisation is done within the rules of that raag. You can not mix different raags. Mahesh Kale runs a school of music with his wife in San Francisco, USA.

Indian singers give signals through voice and the instrument players present there trace the path of his voice and what ever they do . If you see the zakir hussain collabing with other great instrument palyers they try to interact with sound with each other. Its really amazing to see that interaction and mastery on particular thing.loved your reaction.😊
I have heard this songs dozens of times sung by many different singers but it is different when I hear and see you react to it! You are free from bias and comparisons! Your reactions are fresh and I love that because I see where my biases sometimes get in the way of truly enjoying Mahesh's talent! Keep making these videos so that we can learn with you, free of biases!! If possible, hear this same song sung by one of the greatest Indian singers, Shri. Bhimsen Joshi. I would love to see your reaction to that.
The vocalist has been at it for decades, learning and honing his craft So have the musicians been honing their skill at accompanying & have lightning reflexes Just combo of good teachers, natural talents & hours of daily practice for decades
Awesome reaction..because it's not just a reaction; you're also constantly trying to learn new things, which is very attractive..when one is not full of themselves with what little they think they know, but always has an open and receptive mind!👌👌👌💖💖💖
Thanks man! I know very little of this kind of music so I really do wanna be open to learned more, I think that's the beauty of diversity, both in music, but in cultures in general. Peace :)
Bro your expression and the way you are expressing and explaining is mind-blowing..... We are really proud of our culture and thanks for sharing...🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
When singing devotional music, it is not performing. It is connecting with your heart and soul along with a group of open-hearted people and there is a synergy, a feeling created that is hard to describe. When I have done performance-type of music, I can get scared because my ego fears being judged. In devotional music, I try to disappear and to unite with the group as one. It is relaxing and uplifting. It blows me away when I am able to pick up the feeling in videos years later across the internet from a singer whose language, religion and culture I might not even understand.
@H of The Stage I wish you had chosen another version of this song, featuring Mahesh Kale and Rahul Deshpande. That one is my favorite. Their duet is awesome in how they challenge and complement each other at the same time without diminishing the "devotional" aspect of the song. This song was written by famous Marathi writer G D Madgulkar for 1970 movie "Zala Mahar Pandharinath". The original singers were Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande (Grand father of Rahul Deshpande) and Sudhir Phadake who also composed the tune. It's a "bhajan", a semi-classical devotional song style thats best performed by a chorus accompanied by a Harmonium, a Dholak and cymbals. This particular song is based on an ancient raag "Malkauns" which is serious / meditative in nature and considered very difficult to master.
I really admire your humble approach to all sorts of music, just curious and wanting to learn anything you can with an open mind, it is very inspiring to watch and I hope I can learn from your videos in turn as well. Love from India
He's an absolute legend, so in tune with this world's various elements and the bridges between them. If you'd like another recommendation, listen to Aruni Kirani by him (the Melbourne one).
A master at work! ❤ At least 10-20 years of riaj and devotion towards music produces such a master.... He is in trance right now, blessed by God's.... 🙏
This song is in praise of lord Vishnu and love for one's parents. Whole universe in one person... are we all not but an encapsulation of the universe.?
Mahesh Kale is one of the new generation of talented artists. But as u go towards older generations u will find even better artists. Basically it comes to how talented the teacher himself is. In old times it was taken to a lot higher level
i know this song in kannada language also. it has a good spitual meaning also. song starts saying, The human..... body made up of flesh and bones which moves......
In classical singing what singer tey to achieve is to communicate the God with the audience. If one can completely surrender the ego and channels the spiritual energy the singer is just called a medium for communication. Thats what even greeting in our culture depicts. Namaste : means "i bow down to the God in you". In our culture God is a complex entity which is intertwined in every creation as well as untouched by the creations. Our nature is Godly but we are not aware of it as an experience. Few verses for clarification: Every universe is covered by seven layers - earth, water, fire, air, sky, the total energy and false ego - each ten times greater than the previous one. There are innumerable universes besides this one, and although they are unlimitedly large, they move about like atoms in You. Therefore You are called limitless (Bhagavata Purana 6.16.37) Because You are limitless, neither the lords of heaven nor even You Yourself can ever reach the end of Your glories. The countless universes, each enveloped in its shell, are compelled by the wheel of time to wander within You, like particles of dust blowing about in the sky. The śrutis, following their method of eliminating everything separate from the Supreme, become successful by revealing You as their final conclusion (Bhagavata Purana 10.87.41)
The instrumentalist know when to finish because of the tala (beat pattern)... No matter how much the raag is played and detailed, it is sung with a beat/drum pattern. So, seasoned players accompanying the lead singers know when and at what cycle to stop... Full beat, half beat, etc.
He is not producing random sounds. Its is well calculated and based on the rules of Indian Music. the notes which was used are already described in the rules. So he is not producing random sound. and his voice is like that he not being nasal purposely.
