    I've been using a pressure cooker since I was 12. So I know what the mishaps may be. I did have an Aunt do everything wrong cooking pinto beans. She put too much liquid so it wouldn't pressurize right and it exploded. Imprints of the beans were on the ceiling for years.

    Good video. I've had my 6 qt for almost a year and have been meaning to ask a question about natural release. If you plan to use a natural release, do you have the "keep warm" button off? I've noticed that it can take a very long time for the pressure to drop if the keep warm light is on. No one has made mention of it in any of the videos I've watched.

    • @karankeeone
      @karankeeone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that you can turn the Keep Warm off prior to cooking. That said, on a NPR, you can just turn the Keep Warm off at any time.

    • @donnalynn2
      @donnalynn2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, if I use natural release it almost never has any pressure left. You should never touch the keep warm function with natural release. If you do then what you're doing is continuing to cook the food. Leave it be, don't touch anything until you're ready to release the pressure then stop the cycle as usual before releasing the pressure.

    • @joytoyouandme4593
      @joytoyouandme4593 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have turned off many times during natural release cycle, so it cools a bit faster. Or you could unplug as well. If you want it to keep warm after opening, then simply reprogram for keep warm. I often make oatmeal, so natural release a lot.

    Ive been cooking for years but Im brand new to instant pot. I have two questions, if that's ok.
    When it comes to rice, which I've done twice. First time there was some stickiness on the bottom. My second time, I added just a bit more water and it worked out better. I have the Ultra 80. Can I make Whit rice in 7 min, using manual? Because it seems the rice button is 12 minutes. Just curious.
    2nd question, can I stack 3lbs of defrosted chicken in the pot or does it need to be separated?
    Thanks in advance. Im also a new sub, as you can tell lol
    Have a great evening.

    Twice this weekend my pressure pin seemed to get stuck while pressurizing (kept loudly spitting out moisture and steam) and I needed to use the tip of a knife to pop it loose so it would seal. One meal was pasta sauce with sirataki noodles and one was a roast. Thoughts?

    If you have a thicker sauce in your pot, after you have released the pressure, wait at least 5-10 minutes before you stir it. I learned that the hard way when my sauce bubbled and popped and I got a burned thumb when I went to stir it.

    • @joytoyouandme4593
      @joytoyouandme4593 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another tip is to allow it to depressurize naturally when it is a thick substance. For example when cooking oatmeal do not release the pressure manually, allow it to sit approx 10-20 min and the pressurized button to go down on its own. Btw it makes wonderful rolled oats. I then pop left overs in the freezer to heat for another day. Silicone Muffin tins work well for the freezer process, then pop them into a ziplock bag or a container with a lid, for long term storage,.

    I'm with you on #10, it drives me bonkers! Also, #11, do NOT use large quantities of alcohol in the pot, it is extremely dangerous!

      That is so funny! But seriously, some sick people actually used these to make bombs.

    I had no idea the metal liner pot couldnt be used on a burner. I live in a very small space, rv bus and often thought of using it on a burner. (I dont have space for another large pot.) Good to know I can't! Thanks!

      I'm guilty too. I cooked mashed potatoes in it then put it on the stove on low heat to keep them warm while I made corn pudding in my extra liner. Now I have a second Instant Pot, shouldn't happen again. Just glad I didn't hurt anything.

    Can you put a crock pot liner in the instant pot? Never tried it but my husband asked me, I don’t think it’s a good idea but I’m not sure

    You need to post a link if you can find one to where to get replacement parts if you lose them...esp that tiny little silicone cap cover that goes over the bottom of the pressure release valve shaft...that you can either accidentally drop down the sink drain or else have it fly off and land on the kitchen floor somewhere maybe never to be seen again !

    I started using my instant pot and tried the cheesy chicken and rice recipe that you and your sister showed and I guess I did something wrong because I got the burn message after about a minute or so. I tried it 3 times and kept getting the burn message. I washed it out everytime and added liquid and still got the burn message. Can you give me any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

    Great tips! What do you think about putting dairy products in the instant pot? I have heard people say that this is a bad idea...can't remember why.

      I've made quiche several times with both cheese and milk/heavy cream and it turns out amazing every time. I haven't tried making yogurt or sour cream in it yet. Hoping Kristen responds with her opinion on this. *edit* I also made a cheesecake in my Instant Pot and my gf and I both agree it was the BEST cheesecake we have EVER eaten. Even better than New York cheescake from any restaurant in New York :)

      Using milk for the liquid, instead of water or broth, will make the milk curdle. Using milk or cream in a recipe is fine.

    I want to "do something". But I realized that it's got its own schedule. I found myself watching the display as if I was supposed to do something else, but no. Two hours later, perfect stock and tender meat. I love this thing.

    Question for you ... I have a 6-qt instant pot and it works fine for me, but I bought one for my daughter for Christmas, it is also an Instant Pot 6-qt. She has twice tried a recipe for cinnamon apples which required a cup of water along with your sugar, apples and cinnamon. She has twice gotten the burn notice and doesn't know what she is doing wrong. I tried the same recipe and did not get a burn notification and the apples were perfect. Do you know what the problem could be, or perhaps and this is just my thought, some pots run hotter than others and it's getting too hot before coming to pressure giving out that burn notice. I was thinking maybe it needs to be returned if it's faulty.

      @@audreyc9019 I checked with her and she said it was stirred well, maybe she should put the sugar in last with the liquid on the bottom, cook it then stir. Hmm

    Hi Kristen. I have a problem with certain items in the Instant Pot. Like onions. When let's say cooking a pot roast. The onions all seem to 'cook away'. I like to eat those onions with my roast. Any suggestion on how to have some onions still remaining un-vaporized when the cooking time ends.

      I would try cutting the onions bigger. Only thing I can think of....

      After opening throw more in and run for 1 to minutes, then fast release...adjust in the future to softness desired (or just saute them on the stove top regular like, when food is depressurizing
