As someone mentioned, making sure your rocks are wet by soaking them in water will help them stick to the mortar better, less likely to take up the die and make cleanup easier. Looks great!
Richard, it looks great!! you're a hard working Determined man! I love that you are going with what your vision is for your home. You're the one who will be enjoying it for many years to come. Okay here comes my thoughts on your stones Please wet the stones before you place them and starting to put It in place against the mortar there and adding more Mortar on the back of the stone and around it. It will set up better and handle the weather better. My grandfather was a Carpenter. He also loved to do finishing work with stone ocks on fireplaces and did beautiful Fireplace mantels with Carving in them that he craved by hand. He Did finishing work laying rocks or stones around the Foundations.. He always wet the stones or rocks first..Even use a large sponge to Squeeze out water on the stone if he felt it was sucking out the moisture in the mortar to fast and wiped the stone of. Now you may know something different of why you're not wetting yours. Doing stone work on the front of a foundation is hard work. My grandpa would use something to clean off the color from the mortar on the stones. For the life of me I can't remember what it was. I am not Criticizing you or any of your work on the stone you have laid so far. Just sharing how my Dear Grandpa did it was many years ago. He was a very Good and talented man. People would wait for him to be able to work on their house. Not building the houses but doing the finishing work they wanted done. My grandpa fell off a house they were building he wasn't able to climb all the time building houses again. .Then had a heart attack while he was fairly young. So finishing work and doing woodworking was he's new trade. Sorry I shared so much about my grandpa I loved him so much he was a kind and gentle man that loved his family. I miss him.
Stone looking good, the cabin will look great with it's addition! This is for Jennifer. Hey, did you hear about the elephant that had diarrhea? No? It was all over town!
Looking good. Just a little tip. If you'll leave a little pocket void in your mortar on the back or your stone when you press it to the wall it will create a suction and help hold it to the wall.
The stone is looking good. I used to have a chimney bussiness and did a lot of veneer stone work. No advice, like in the other comments lol, your way is working great. I enjoy the videos. Blessings to you and your family,
google translator hei the work looks beautiful I like it. if I may give my opinion: the stone must be wet before spreading the mortar on it. even hardened and dry concrete must be wet before placing a new stone spread with fresh mortar. in this way the molecular structure is stronger and the stone does not come off with the cold, rain, ice, snow. luckily you are working the wall under the porch and there it is more protected from the elements. but think about the rest of the house which has less protection. it's just my opinion of course. good job, the house is always more beautiful.
Oh my gosh. I love the rock and the more the mortar dries the better it looks.🙂 Don't worry about that vent. A Q.T. and 20 mins of your time will fix that, at least annually 😄. It's looking sharp.
I think I would do it without coloring the mortar. It also looks like you might be using too much mortar for the application, it only has to be thick enough for full surface contact on the rock and to penetrate and cover your metal.
So far it's looking great, use some knee pads and a good belt, you are going to be sore from all the up and down, ha ha ha. That Smoky loves his creek 😉
As the mortar dries it lightens up...looks really great and blends well with the wood. Great job, Richard! Hello to the that motley crew that cheers you on. Ken in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
for cleanup on the rocks..use muriatic acid with a stiff bristle brush and it will clean them like new. Muriatic acid is made for cleaning concrete off stone and brick..
You and Patrick walking to the trailer to unload it, I can tell the apple didn't fall far from the tree. You both walk with determination. I can't imagine how much criticism you face, heck I get it just commenting. But guess what , I could care less!
Your mix is too dry. You have no adhesion. After one winter you will have failure. Add water to mix. It also helps to wet the back of stone before you back butter them. GOOD LUCK, ITS A GOOD LOOK‼️. Vinny 🇺🇸
Umm lots of things I would change or the rock will fall off the wall. 1st apply a scratch coat and let it set up. 2nd after wetting the rock if you apply the northern like in blocks and leave an opening in the middle it will create a vacuum when you stick it to the wall.😉😁
I also highly recommend getting the back side of the rocks damp before applying mortar. It makes them stick MUCH better. Otherwise, the rock sucks too much moisture from the mortar and makes it dry faster which makes it weaker. All you have to do is keep a bucket of water and a sponge close by. The sponge is also great for cleaning mortar off the stones where you don’t want it. It looks great though ! Every mason in the world has his own style and there is no right and wrong way to do it. Just do it the way you like it ! Also I mentioned it before , but check out mike haddock masonry on utube , I wish I had seen his videos before I did the rock work on my cabin.
I had concrete guys do my fireplace and I watched carefully. We didn't wet the stone so don't worry. We did use a sponge to make the mortar smoother. And we used a sponge to clean the rock once the mortar was dry enough.
Good morning Richard and the rest of the crew. Looking good, might figure a way to cut a template of the vent so you can scab another one on right side up?? Just me dreaming again!! The rock work is really looking good. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
Omgosh I'm glad to see you wasn't using a fake veneered stone paneling. But the terracotta redish mortar looks excellent with that stone, but matching stone shapes isn't easy.
You should try a grout bag use basic mortar behind the stone and into the mesh, also you should tyr a water mist between layers helps it make the mortar stick better , try not to touch your mortar either. Sorry i use tol be a stonee stacker i could give ya advice to no end. Like mix your mortar with a dab a thin set maakes it stickyer .tmi
I love that you are building your personality into all your buildings. Everything is clever, well built, and unique. It’s fun to see what you are going to do next! 😊
Looking good Richard at least you are having a crack only learn by doing hey..is that too much mortar just wondering..or are you trying to make level with your siding?
Gosh, there's no way at all you can get that vent turned around? You did everything so perfect with the whole cabin, just a shame knowing that darn thing is upside down.
Looks like you are installing eave vents in the foundation instead of foundation vents. If this was intentional good job other than the upside down one 🤣. If not I’d recommend looking at installing foundation vents instead. They are easier to open and close to allow for proper air flow as needed for temperature changes.
From your last video you lost a chicken I think you have a racoon they are known to reach in and kill a chicken or two . if it were me I would set up a trail cam and see I also would get enough hardware wire to do a 2 ft around the bottom of coop so nothing can reach in
Looks great! but as a side note if your mortar dye is anything like we have in Canada you might want to measure it to get the same tone when it dries. Not a criticism just a thought as i have had problems with it in the past.
I believe your mortar is too dry. The 1st section of stone-are large. The 2nd section are mostly medium to small. Add a darker or even a black stone once in a while. Adds character. Your joints are way too wide. Also, let mortar dry some. Brush with 1-1/2" wire brush. All joints. Then I would wash them the next day. Not very much dye to clean if any. That's 1 way here to do it here in New Mexico. May not work where your at.
Sorry one more thing dont mix mortar in a cement mixer , put it n the wheel barrel and use a mortar hoe.makes it creamy and smooth not so dry and crumbly.
As someone mentioned, making sure your rocks are wet by soaking them in water will help them stick to the mortar better, less likely to take up the die and make cleanup easier. Looks great!
The chickens are loving the green leafy vegetables.
The stone looks beautiful!
👍 Danke fürs Hochladen!
👍 Thanks for uploading!
👍 Very good and beautiful, thank you!
👍 Sehr gut und schön, danke!

No? It was all over town!

The stone is looking good. I used to have a chimney bussiness and did a lot of veneer stone work. No advice, like in the other comments lol, your way is working great. I enjoy the videos. Blessings to you and your family,
My knees are killing me watching.😩

Rock work is looking good
It looks so beautiful 👍

I was thinking you was talking about putting river rock but the flag stone is working for me I'm like it
The rocks are looking good will be glad when you are done with them, and I know you will be to.
Your daughter and grandson should move into the cabin with you to help and look after you
Looks great!
I Love it, looks fantastic.
Love your videos. Thanks
Good job Richard
I have watched several videos from Mike Haddock and he is a big believer in having the surface of the rock wet. He said it helps with the bonding.
So far it's looking great, use some knee pads and a good belt, you are going to be sore from all the up and down, ha ha ha. That Smoky loves his creek 😉
Wow the stone looks really cool loving the colour. So nice to see all you guys today x
Rock looks great, very time consuming but worth it in the end I think
You have to moist the rocks. That provide more stick to concrete.
Wetting the rock will also help it not soak in the die from the mortar
Mortar color matches well stone looks great
Looking great!
I think is also looks nice.
I think the rock is going to look great so far it looks pdg (pretty darn good)
Richard you can mix up an acid wash to clean up the mortar on the rocks.
looks great !!!!!
It looks good 👍👍I love the wood siding and rock together! Another great job‼️
As the mortar dries it lightens up...looks really great and blends well with the wood. Great job, Richard! Hello to the that motley crew that cheers you on. Ken in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

16.40 like me and my dad in the past 👍👌

Wow.... Awesome.
Lookin good!
Hi Knox,
I think the cement with out colour would looks better and match the the colour of the rocks, good job.
You need to go to the brickyard and get some mortar cream and mix with here cement it'll make it stick a lot better
great job
As pedras ficaram bonitas
Your mix is too dry. You have no adhesion. After one winter you will have failure. Add water to mix. It also helps to wet the back of stone before you back butter them. GOOD LUCK, ITS A GOOD LOOK‼️. Vinny 🇺🇸
The rock is turning out beautiful. It looks like a back breaking job though.
Umm lots of things I would change or the rock will fall off the wall. 1st apply a scratch coat and let it set up. 2nd after wetting the rock if you apply the northern like in blocks and leave an opening in the middle it will create a vacuum when you stick it to the wall.😉😁
Good day SMO!
You had me worried there when you said concrete ! It looks like mortar to me rockwall looks fantastic !

CREEK!
Omgosh I'm glad to see you wasn't using a fake veneered stone paneling. But the terracotta redish mortar looks excellent with that stone, but matching stone shapes isn't easy.
Looking good. Hard work though...
From your last video, where you had the dead chicken, it's entirely possible a weasel or fisher was able to fit through the wire mesh and kill it.
You should try a grout bag use basic mortar behind the stone and into the mesh, also you should tyr a water mist between layers helps it make the mortar stick better , try not to touch your mortar either. Maybe mount another vent on top of that upside down vent, if possible.
Looks good, otherwise.
Use your grinder to cut the metal lathing.
Jennifer: "Creek?"
Smokey: *goes nuts*
Me (former Labrador owner): *laughing my ass off*
Are you able to add a second vent over the first vent so you have the correct orientation?
light acid wash the stones after the mortar dries a day, the longer you wait to clean them the harder it becomes looking good
How did you build the knee wall?? Is it concrete block,or what did you use???
I spoke too soon. I seen it when you cut out for your vent.
Season 1 Ep 41&42 I believe that’s when I built it
I love that you are building your personality into all your buildings. Everything is clever, well built, and unique. It’s fun to see what you are going to do next! 😊
Looking good Richard at least you are having a crack only learn by doing hey..is that too much mortar just wondering..or are you trying to make level with your siding?
Richard, I am not sure, but it looked like you may have gotten that second day batch of mortar to dry. If so it may not adhere to the rock as well.
Gosh, there's no way at all you can get that vent turned around?
You did everything so perfect with the whole cabin, just a shame knowing that darn thing is upside down.

God bles the forword butten, sorry Patrick 😉
Looks great! but as a side note if your mortar dye is anything like we have in Canada you might want to measure it to get the same tone when it dries. Not a criticism just a thought as i have had problems with it in the past.
Red mortar??
Si mojas la piedra, antes de ponerla en el cemento, tendrás mas adherencia a la pared.
Is that concrete board behind everything
No, it is roofing felt and plywood. I had a lot and needed to get rid of it before it sticks together. It was a good place for it.
🤙🏽
👍🏴
No I am Patricio Numero una!
I guess P. Metal he is having trouble with the rock sticking.
👍👍👍🇵🇭
Hello miss giggles
Fucking awesome it looks like!!!
Thats the way i want to be...
I believe your mortar is too dry. The 1st section of stone-are large. The 2nd section are mostly medium to small. Add a darker or even a black stone once in a while. Adds character. It looks good but it sure is a lot of tedious work fitting rock and mixing mortar.
Glad it’s done. I mixed two bags a day to use so I wouldn’t get burned out on it. Took about a month, but well worth it.
Sorry one more thing dont mix mortar in a cement mixer , put it n the wheel barrel and use a mortar hoe.makes it creamy and smooth not so dry and crumbly.
