The facelift rear is superior to the pre facelift rear, great chassis nonetheless. I owned a facelift 2.5 for a few years when I was younger and it was my favorite out of all 9 cars I've owned so far.
😱 I have to disagree there 😂 but definitely agree on the chassis! I think they’re really underrated cars that deserve more love and recognition. I think we’re seeing perceptions change now
The prefacelift with the wide ass is the best. The 2000-2002 has an ugly rear end. They tried to make it look like the 507 but ruined it. 97-99 wideass rules!
you need as I have, a 2.8 with a BMW hardtop, been a full time driver all my life, now at the age of 76, still the the best car I have ever owned, MOT tomorrow fingers crossed she will pass again, now 24 years old.
I just bought a Z3, same model and engine about 3 weeks ago as well. I have had 3 MX-5's and honestly they are great, but these days are just overpriced rot-boxes. Z3's however are stupid cheap for one hell of a lot of car. I'm not going to go crazy with it however. I'm going to replace all the cooling system as it's 27 years old and the various suspension parts that need it (mostly the steering linkages, ball joints and bushings) but other than that, keep it pretty much spec. One tip for putting into a small garage (again, same as mine. Homebuilders forget that we don't drive cars from the 60's any more) is to put a couple of chocks down where you want the car to stop. That way you don't stop it with the bumper and stop with the wheels. Also you then know that you positioned it in the right spot every time.
Glad to hear your in the Z3 club now 👌 that’s exactly what I tackled when I first got mine. Thermostat got stuck (open luckily) so that was the first replacement, followed by all of the suspension components, bushes and arms. I usually drive the car in and the floor is foam matting so it just drops into the indentations it’s left there… but this time I just got carried away with filming my first video 😅 luckily no damage done 🙌
done the 13b swap (the channel is The rogue ones). well it's not completely done yet but it's in the final stages. might be worth a look if you're really interested in doing it.
Yes, I’ve been chatting with Don a bit. His ITB setup is 🔥 aside from that, I think one was done in NZ but not seen much of that for years. I’m going into this with much less knowledge than Don but should be a good learning!
Beautiful build! I own a 02 z3 3.0… if I may, can you speak more to the wheel, suspension, camber setup please? I’m looking to do a staggered tuck fit with a pair of 18”/8.5 by 18/9.5 and am looking for the best fitment… cheers!
Thanks! Nice car, the 3.0 is a great engine 🤙 Your car has a wider body than mine, allowing for a wider rear wheel but here’s what I’m running: Front - 7.5/17/ET35 Rear - 8.5/17/ET20 I’m running a slight stretch on the tyres with 225/45 on the rear and a 215/45 on the front. To get the 8.5” to fit the front, you’ll need some camber for sure. With your suspension, If you go for coilovers with adjustable top mounts like BC then you might have enough adjustment. Your rears should fit fine as your car is wider and the rear camber increases as the car is lowered. Any questions, let me know 🤙
I’m using Vogtland coilovers. They’ve still got some room to go lower at the front, and the rears are as low as I can get with the spring perch removed too. I have no camber adjustment on this setup.
Thanks! Hopefully I’ll get another video up discussing some plans this weekend and follow up with some mods happening over the next couple of weeks before it goes on track in Jan… then the big swap can begin. The mirrors are just an eBay/aliexpress “F1” style mirror. I need to put better quality ones on really. Love the look though!
Thanks, I spent a while researching and testing g to get this fitment 🤙 Wheels are 17” all round. Rears are 8.5” wide et20 with 215/45/17 tyre. Fronts 7.5” wide et35 205/45/17 tyre. Fronts are running a 20mm spacer.
I think there’s a website called “howmanyleft” that can give you an idea. It’s pretty crazy how uncommon these are now. Cheap to pick up too. In my opinion the price can only go up soon
Thanks! It’s essentially just a K&N cone filter mounted straight to intake pipe going to the original air box etc. I then replaced the old lower blanked off grill with some mesh honeycomb (Amazon) and used some flexible ducting to channel cold air from them to the filter. You just need to measure the size of the pipe and buy a cone filter to suit. I got mine from demon-Tweeks.com
Not my cup of tea (putting the Wankel in a Z3), but you have my attention! I will watch to see your Frankenstein monster come to life… or watch you go insane before my eyes… 🤓. Good luck!👍🏻
Haha! This is my favourite comment yet!! I literally have an idea for a short video where I describe it as Frankensteins monster! 😂 I’ll finish the project but will definitely go insane… even just replacing the handbrake shoes caused chaos last night 😅

Just found your channel, love the z3 route over like an mx5. Looks like it’s going to be a proper build.
Thanks! I’ve shot loads more content… just need to get it out 😅

A great car! How did the MOT go? My grandfather used to own mine when he was around your age and loved it! He misses driving it now though

@@Sam_Proctor looking forward to the start of the swap.

Great work!
Thanks 🤙 big plans for this
Nice content, just subbed. Z3's are cool little cars.
Thanks 🤙
Can you tell what size are those rims? And tyre size too, please. They fits the car body perfectly!

Can’t get used to seeing you without the day job hat! 😂
The Tweeks hat will be on in the warmer weather 😂
McDonald's?
Where did you get your wheel spacers? I’m looking for some for my z3!
They’re from Demon Tweeks 🙌 only using on the front to help clear the coilovers. The wheels fit the rear perfectly
Can’t help by love a Z3. Wish I had a bloody garage!
Definitely need a garage for a z3 now 😂 they leak and no matter what anyone says… there’s no fix haha
I have a BMW z3 2 litre. How do I found out how many are still running in the UK? And how many were made, it is a W reg, made in 2000

Sorry whats the rotary engine swap in your description? Is this a spoof channel?
A 13b RX7 engine. That’s the plan, as controversial as it may be 🤷♂️
2002 M Roadster owner here……..do the 13B. Haha. Make it bonkers!
Nice car 🤙 oh it’s happening! The 13B is sat in my garage ready for rebuild 😉
Yess!!! 🎉
looks great so far, what are the parts for the air intake, would love to do for my z3

@@Sam_Proctor - I admire your ability and willingness to undertake the job. 👍🏻
I’m more of a “I’ll get you a cold beer and that wrench” guy.
😂
Z4/Z3 are As you say proper roadsters
👌
I prefer a cleaner, more standard looking z3.
That’s fair enough 👌
not a mx5 u say? german miata, much better
;)
😁👍🇯🇵
