That explains why my original manifolds have new flanges booger welded onto them, thanks for explaining the cracked ears.

Enjoy listening to your thought process and seeing the original factory methods

Amazing work well done those lugs easily break when refitting with the new donuts it’s best to nip up between heat cycles until finely tight using a sequence like you would a cylinder head because they could still snap if over tightened

Thanks Chuck this is the exact video (just in time) that I am looking for. I just bought new mild steel exhaust. I was thinking of replacing
in situ. but you make a lot of sense of removing the manifolds to prevent damage. When assembling do you think I can attach the down pipes
to the manifolds and fish them down in position? My e-type also has the original system plus I can finish painting my manifolds bottom.

I don’t think you’ll be able to fish the manifolds and downpipes down in as one unit. I only got away with it because the downpipes were broken at the flex joint so it was only the front half. If the old stuff is toast, cut it and pull it out the top like I did. Then remove the nuts off the car like I did. The second half of this video will be out in a few weeks- there are a couple others in front of it… 😉

There is a company in the Midwest that can re-porcelain those manifolds to new condition with the proper color.

    Where have you been?

Busy… with home, work, kids, you name it - just life in general. 😉. AND - I already made the mistake before - twice - of getting this series going and then having to jump back off the project. So this time, I’ve got 8 episodes “in the vault” ready to release one each week. Keep watching - it starts getting real fun! 🙂

It’s like working on an E-type coming in for dealer service circa 1966. Meticulous documentation!

One of the areas of the original design that I feel was a poor choice - I have never seen an E-type with all of the original porcelain on the manifolds.

Hi John. Sure looked good in the showroom though, eh? Appreciate your videos too!
