My fatherinlaw owned a small candy store in upper manhatten during the 60-s-80's. He was prescient enough to realize in the late 60's that the silver coins would some day be more valuable so he began to put them away. In the late 80s he gave me that load silver coins, about $,1000 face value. I'm still holding on to them although I did sell all the .50 pieces and converted them into gold $50 eagles.
When my dad died he was very poor. He turned himself inside out to not be a burden on us. In the end he left my brother and I each a single mercury dime. Some would balk at such an inheritance. I will always cherish that gift because it proves that, in addition to all of the love and experience he gave us, his life was a net gain for those he left behind. That is tough to accomplish. He knew that my brother and I were stackers and I was sure to let him know that my stack was his stack. He died knowing we would follow his lead and dedicate ourselves to our posterity. Thank you dad.
My dad brought an old upright piano from 1911. In the process of restoring it we found several coins had been dropped through the gaps between the keys, including a mercury dime and an Indian head penny. That was the beginning of my love for silver and coin collecting.
Historic constitutional silver, is my❤, love quarters too, my start in stacking, I was working retail, running a cash register, pulled out some Indian heads, and Buffaloes, that got me in to coins, coins got me into silver
I got started at 6 or 7 years old because of my grandfather (Pops). He was a big stacker/collector. He gave me an 1883-0 Morgan Dollar for my 1st coin. Been doing it ever since. By the way I'm 59yrs young. 😊
I got into stacking when I found a buffalo nickle while cleaning my room last November. At first, I started with collecting collectible coins, but now I'm more into stacking silver and gold.
@StatesideStash I got quite a few reverse proof 5 ounce silver Libertads recently. I plan on concentrating on getting an ounce of gold next, but I'm not sure what form I should go for. Do you have any suggestions? I was thinking gold eagle but also considering a gold Libertad.

Over the years I accumulated many coins but for whatever reason I stopped collecting in my mid twenties. Still have the entire collection. Now I am in my early fifties and just a couple of months ago I saw a video, it may well have been one of yours, about stacking and I was intrigued. First order was a roll of Washington quarters. Next order was for seven rounds. Next order will probably be a roll of Mercury dimes with some rounds. I order from APMEX and they have free shipping on orders over $199. That fits nicely in my budget so the idea is to order enough to get the free shipping every month.
