I bought a lot of U.S and Canadian constitutional silver in 2013. My coin dealer was having a hard time getting Maples, so I went that route. Haven't bought much of them since then. Great video Speg. I love the constitutional silver. Being a stacker, I usually turn away from the old Barbers and SLQ because of the wear. I know they have a better premiums on them usually and it's not to say I don't have any. Just if given the choice of a roll of Barber dimes and Roosevelt dimes, I'd take the Rosies (assuming the Barbers were the normal wore down ones). However, chances are I could sell the roll of Barbers for more but again right now, I'm trying to get as much silver for as low cost as I can...stackin' hard 😀 Thanks again Speg...great discussion!
Kenneth yea ik that’s why I’ve bought 40 ounces in two months from him and the guy bought most of his silver in early 2000s when it was 5 dollars an ounce
I’d like to hear others opinions on a question I have. Say there is an economic collapse, do you really think you can walk into your local grocery store & trade a few mercury dimes for food? I have silver & I’ve never been able to grasp the concept of bartering with precious metals for tangible goods in the event of a collapse. How will that work? Will some govt official have to make a declaration or will the public have to agree that pm’s can be used? Also, if the economy does take a dump & silver prices go up enough to sell, what are you going to sell your silver for, a failing currency? Just some thoughts.
So Martin, I'm not sure if you wanted me to answer this or not. Silver and gold are money and have been for thousands of years. They're precious to people. Now, an economic collapse doesn't effect only the USA which may cause you to think "why would it matter" but it's a global problem because many countries are seriously tied to one another. If the dollar fails then it will be like a domino effect. What will be valuable if that happens? Likely, the same thing that has always been valuable. Hopefully others can chime in.
In Venezuela an ounce of silver is worth 4 million dollars. People sell there silver to a shop. The shop credits their account. Then they go and buy groceries. No wheel barrow needed. 4 million sounds like alot of money but it will buy about $18 worth of food.
Honestly if there is a major "collapse" like a lot of people think then gold and silver will be the least of your worries. Food and water and weapons will be what people would barter with in an all out collapse. Now I don't believe we will ever have a situation like that but you never know. I buy silver and gold more as a hedge to my other paper investments due to the inevitable inflation that is coming from current monetary policies. And I also treat it as a hobby just collecting for fun. Hopefully one day my grand kids can benefit greatly from my hobby when I'm gone. Ill probably never sell any of my silver or gold unless things got really bad.
Was just gonna ask about junk silver and here's the video. ha! I just learned that I shouldn't clean my coins too. Did not know that. I'm going shopping today. Thanks
I like that Spegtacular button you have on your glove. I also wear my gloves sometimes when I'm going through my coins. I know they are circulated coins but why expose them to more oils in your hands. Thanks for sharing this great video.
Yep Roosevelt was 33° free mason who served 3 terms as President. However during one of his terms I believe it was his 2nd where he was hospitalized with polio, Lady Roosevelt served on his stead. Great vlog! I'm going roll hunting today hope I score!
That 1916 barber dime was obviously cleaned. No question about it. But it was clean probably along time ago and then naturally toned after the cleaning. It’s probably only a VG grade but cleaned 50 years ago
Constitutional silver is always the way to go for people that just like to stack silver. Just buy common dates and slicks and you can stretch your money way further.
Great video buddy, so much info to take in with coins! Thats part of the reason i slowed way down on my coin collecting and started stacking. Plus it got to the point where i was only needing key dates and would rather spend the money on bullion lol. thanks for sharring Speg love your channel man!!
@@Spegtacular thats so funny! I was so afraid of coin collecting ending up like stamp collecting did and giving my son a bunch of worthless stuff that i spent alot of $ on like my dad did to me with his stamp collection
I think you get a better bang for your buck collecting pure silver bullion coins or bar. Another Overtaxed Payer has a video that looks at the cost per ounce. Junk silver used to be good at one point in time when you could find some silver coins in bank rolls. Now you have to primarily get junk silver from coin shops or order bags of junk silver from the US mint. These options can be quite pricey. These coins are also not .999 or .9999. They are no doubt silver but unless you are familiar with silver content in US coins, it is not the best option if you are looking at quantity, quality and price when stacking silver.
Test the math and you’ll often finding junk to be the king when it comes to price. Be careful with over taxed. I’ve had to make videos before about his lack of responsibility when speaking about precious metals prices.
Don't know if anyone knows how things are really going to shake out with silver.in the future. So what I have been trying to do is stack a 1/4 in 10 oz bars, 1/4 rounds, 1/4 bullion coins and 1/4 junk silver. Is there anything else I might be missing? It could just be when the time comes silver is silver. It does make it a little more interesting doing it this way though.
Another awesome video- I always loved collecting dimes- I have an old piggy bank of just dimes - I’m going to look though them tomorrow.....at least $100 in dimes in there - maybe I’ll find some silver in there💰👍 if not, I guess I’ll have to go to the LCS....😊
For the price of a couple of ASEs, you could buy a few shares of a low price miner, trading at 1 to $3 a share. Trade these for some profits,DO NOT TRADE YOUR GOLD. EXK, which trades about $2.50, was up 7.5% one day this week, up about 15 cents in a day. I keep a little portfolio of 7 of them. All are rallying ,along with gold and silver. Their Tech charts are good. SSRM has a great chart, with a huge cup, followed by a nice handle. Trades in the $15 area. I would not think of trading the coins. WHEATON, WPM gets $27 million cash flow per employee!
Buying shares and investing in precious metals is two very very different things and is useful to people for a completely different reason. You can’t view precious metals as a way of getting a return like your stocks in companies. Stick around for a while and we’ll help it make sense to you :)
There's also a possibility of finding a key date. Someone who found a 1916 quarter paid $3 for it but it's worth $800-$1000 in poor condition. Btw the 1916 had a worn off date, BUT to the trained eye, there are tell-tale design features that are different between the 1916-Type 1 and 1917-Type 1.
Even though there’s some coins that have “features” or design traits specific to a certain coin’s year, if the coin has a worn off date, it’s worth next to nothing. Look on EBay at 1916 quarters that have the date worn off. They have a hard time selling.
Thanks for another great video. There was actually one cleaned coin I bought on one occasion that just by getting it slabbed by pcgs I was able to sell it for 140$ more than what I initially paid. I believe it was 1900-S morgan in Genuine Unc -Cleaned. Some times I will do stuff like that if I know I can flip Morgans. It takes a lot of time searching to find good deals like that though.
Additionally, This video makes me want to trade out some of my .999 for 90%. The good thing is I do have a roll of Silver eagles that I bought right at spot when they were 14-16 each using Ownx.com. I could easily resell them for 22-24$ ea. There is an Army recruiter locally who will buy off me if I ever want to sell. The best part about that is I don't have to worry about eBay and fees and don't have to sell to a shop and lose money.
Do you flip Morgans often? One of my favorite coins right there! I don’t think you should switch .999 for 90% just keep the .999 and then buy 90% too! ;)
@@Spegtacular Yeah I flip Morgans quite a bit, I'm not always successful with it, but it's a fun hobby. When I get coins back that are genuine details for the most part I just keep them instead of trying to resell them.

just to let you know that 1953 Franklin half no mint mark which is Philadelphia is the semi key date. and it has a nice lustre and in au to bu condition will worth a lot of money on ebay! 1955 P Franklin is the key date!

I planned to stick to 1/2oz buffalos and 1oz pure silver eagles.... is that enough for a good diversity or should I have some 90% quarters? I just stick to the fact that there’s no fuss since you KNOW it’s pure but I’m open to options
Be as diverse as you feel comfortable being. I like a little of everything but some people view diversity differently or are less diverse than I am. It's a preference thing.
SpegTacular why is it then that I paid 420 for junk dollars and 402 for dollar rounds. I’m just starting to buy silver and I’m so confused as what to buy. Help please
According to the US Inflation Calculator, 10 cents in 1916 is the equivalent of $2.35 today. So holding that silver dime for inflation protection wouldn't have worked. On the other hand, a circulated 1916 gold eagle is worth $731.17, gold value, vs the $235 that 1916 $10 is worth today. However, today is another matter; though lately, gold has been a better inflation protector.
Kyle Decell .....my LCS bucket. Tulsa OK. Typically I pay $1.25 to maybe $1.35. I order regularly online, but always make sure to go into my LCS weekly also. They know me by name, they know what I look for, and they know that I never leave without buying something. On rare occasions I will pay slightly more for something, like silver eagles, just to keep the relationship with them. I don’t hesitate to say “yeah...I will take those. That is a little more than I can get them for online, but I like visiting with you guys”. So I say it nicely, but also strategically let them know that i am also throwing them a bone too. In return they sometimes cut me a break on certain purchases. For instance, the other day the manager sold me kangaroo bullion for $1.50 over spot. That was a pretty reasonable deal. They also sold me a Scottsdale 20oz kitkat bar for $1.00 over spot. That was a really good deal. You just have to be out there looking...”chitchat” with them, get to know them, and be a regular customer. With all of that said, I can tell you that if you just walk in and ask the same guy how much a barber dime is, he would likely tell you around $2.00-3.00. So its all about relationships in many instances.
I love junk silver (and your videos) and ya i accumulate it, but i do occasionally buy the 40% and world junk silver cause i can get silver close to spot that way ..i know most people disagree, but i think eventually, it will sell at a much higher premium for two reasons A.90% us jubk silver the premiums are getting ridiculous, people are gonna get sick of paying high premiums and look for alternatives, such as 40% or world junk silver B. They arent making anymore of it, so fixed supply+ increase in demand=higher prices,
I love the American history, “Americana”, aspect of coin collecting so that’s why I gravitate towards the coins that were actually used as currency. Plus, in the event of an economic collapse, I believe that many people will find comfort in the familiar and it will be easier to use these kinds of coins to buy day to day items.

He had a whole bag of U.S. half dollars. I think I bought the vast majority of them. Gave each of my kids a roll of 20 half dollars for their birthdays. My grandkids gets an ounce of silver and a gram of gold for their birthdays and Christmas.
Rosie's are without a doubt my favorite coins to stack.
Coin shop near me sells 1965-1969 Kennedys for $2 each. Melt is like $2.50. Easy money!
Here’s an example of what I was talking about right here ;)
@@Spegtacular I was there this week when the market dropped and he had been cleaned out of 90% and bullion. He said that customers only wanted those, leaving all the 40% which he practically paid me to take.
James Goss I was told NOT to buy or SAVE anything but 1964 and lower.
Nothing 65 thru 2019.
So what to do. I am new to buying metals
@@judiebarbera me too, good question
Lot of great history there. And classic designs. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Totally agree there Silver Heist!
I like finding Spanish American Wreck site coins on Treasure Coast beaches in Florida near the wreck sites after tropical storms and hurricanes. Going in the water is illegal & even the remote sites have cams. Also don't park in a FEDERAL parking lot because metal dectetor possession on Fed land is serious time, fine & bye-bye detector & booty. 🐥😘
There you go TB! Stack hard and stack often. They typically have a lot of wear, but I jump on cheap barbers/slq’s for their history.
I have been paying 17 for eagles rite now. 3.00 for quarters 1.15 for dimes
Please tell us where. Are you watching for counterfeits? China is exporting them like crazy
Great prices for sure. Shops around me are similar except $18 for eagles.
In Illinois u can get those prices not from coin shops u go to people who sell at home or on the go. People with over head charge more remember that
$1.15 for dimes is only $16.10/oz t. You're making out like a bandit around $1 under spot at that price.
Kenneth yea ik that’s why I’ve bought 40 ounces in two months from him and the guy bought most of his silver in early 2000s when it was 5 dollars an ounce
I have only been buying silver bars but junk silver sounds like a pretty good stackable security Avenue. Thanks for the advice. I'll take it.
Ill probably never sell any of my silver or gold unless things got really bad.
mgtow life make Venezuela great again
Great video, Spegtacular, thank you.
Was just gonna ask about junk silver and here's the video. ha! I just learned that I shouldn't clean my coins too. Did not know that. I'm going shopping today. Thanks
Let us know what you get!
@@Spegtacular I got some of those Ben Franklin's. Bought all they had. ✌️
The Book with all the mintages please tell me what its called and where do you buy it?
The Red Book. You can obtain it just about anywhere that sells books. Amazon, Barns & Noble, Coin Shop’s, etc
You mean the Dansco books?
I like that Spegtacular button you have on your glove. I also wear my gloves sometimes when I'm going through my coins. I know they are circulated coins but why expose them to more oils in your hands. Thanks for sharing this great video.
Thanks Armando. It’s YOUR collection so do what you like to it. Sometimes I like wearing gloves.. with buttons... that have my name on it... lol
70d half is the tough one in 40% silver .🤗
Also check for West point mint mark quarters.
Yep Roosevelt was 33° free mason who served 3 terms as President. However during one of his terms I believe it was his 2nd where he was hospitalized with polio, Lady Roosevelt served on his stead. Great vlog! I'm going roll hunting today hope I score!
Good luck Henry What denominations?
Thanks...I'm a merc, and Kennedy fan. But today I'm on a mission for some 90% Washington's☺
He also imprisoned Japanese Americans in concentration camps.
That 1916 barber dime was obviously cleaned. No question about it. But it was clean probably along time ago and then naturally toned after the cleaning. It’s probably only a VG grade but cleaned 50 years ago
Thank you for your opinion on that one.
Constitutional silver is always the way to go for people that just like to stack silver. Just buy common dates and slicks and you can stretch your money way further.
boa coleção de prata👍👍Parabéns pelo trabalho
Great video buddy, so much info to take in with coins! Thats part of the reason i slowed way down on my coin collecting and started stacking. Plus it got to the point where i was only needing key dates and would rather spend the money on bullion lol. thanks for sharring Speg love your channel man!!
Thanks Gram. I think you and I ended up doing things very similar to one another!
Nice Speggy!! 😛😛😛😍👏🏻👏🏻🤓🤓🤓
Great 1916 Barber...very nice!!!
Thank you!
Sounds like a solid stack! Nothing wrong with that strategy. Maybe get some gold in there when you’re able?
Love Constitutional. Part of my stack as well. Shtf coins are awesome. Great video!
Thank you! I agree with many others that it’s perfect to stack ;)
Thank you Speg.
Great Information!
Roosevelt was one of if not the worst president ever!
why?
There have been many presidents that were worse than fdr. Such as L. B. Johnson.
Whats the differncce red& blue books
Blue is supposed to be for dealers and their buy prices and red is for a collector and their sell prices
Another awesome video- I always loved collecting dimes- I have an old piggy bank of just dimes - I’m going to look though them tomorrow.....at least $100 in dimes in there - maybe I’ll find some silver in there💰👍 if not, I guess I’ll have to go to the LCS....😊
Wow I’m willing to bet that you at least find something cool in there.
How are they exempt from capital gains taxes?
Who exactly?
Point well taken......thanks for you correcting me......ooh
You get how I was trying to explain it? I want it to make sense otherwise I’m not helping people.
@@Spegtacular are the certified and graded by PCGS/NGC/ANACS?
Have you seen them grade dateless coins?
Junk silver is the best bang for buck value.
Agreed!
Other than junk silver, I really like buying cutlery. Always find it below spot.
Where do you hunt for that if you don't mind me asking?
@@Spegtacular online auction with local pick up, shipping is not worthwhile. My parents live in a small town, I bid they pick items for me.There is less competition in smaller market. Sometimes you can find these at estate sales etc., but you have to physically be there.
Thanks for sharing! Great video!
I will never trust junk silver for change in a purchase.
I will always insist on .999 purity PM.
I would be concerned that the junk would get mixed into everyday clad coinage.
just to let you know that 1953 Franklin half no mint mark which is Philadelphia is the semi key date. and it has a nice lustre and in au to bu condition will worth a lot of money on ebay! 1955 P Franklin is the key date!
Thank you Jeff. I appreciate it!
Great video. Bought a bunch of half's on Thursday . Love the stuff.
Nice! Any cool ones?
@@Spegtacular Standing liberty's, Franklin, and Kennedy Half's no good dates. The spot price was higher than last week .35¢ but after negotiating I didn't pay that.
I just bought a tone of 90% junk quarters. Any tips on sorting rare and more valuable coins in the stack? Great info. Keep it up 👍
Grab a Red Book and find the rarer stuff :) have fun doing it!
The Rosies are newer, thus less worn than Mercs. or Liberties,
Exactly
I Just started stacking 2 weeks ago
How is it going now?
I planned to stick to 1/2oz buffalos and 1oz pure silver eagles.... is that enough for a good diversity or should I have some 90% quarters? I just stick to the fact that there’s no fuss since you KNOW it’s pure but I’m open to options
Be as diverse as you feel comfortable being. I like a little of everything but some people view diversity differently or are less diverse than I am. It's a preference thing.
Love my Junk Silver. I found a 1932D in at worst VF Condition for 11xFace!! You can check the vid!
Sounds like a win!
Constitutional is the best deal oz per dollar wise I can get here lately so I’ve been buying it the most.
Can’t go wrong with the old stuff Josh!
No sir you can’t. Especially when you can get it below spot price right now as I can.
I like the junk silver like you said it's history in your hand.
For cheap too! Such a cheap way to hold history
SpegTacular why is it then that I paid 420 for junk dollars and 402 for dollar rounds. I’m just starting to buy silver and I’m so confused as what to buy. Help please
How much silver in barbers?
Where do you buy your junk silver? I am starting out with silver stacking.
Anywhere that sells it pretty much .. as long as the price is decent
I buy a lot from APMEX and haven't been disappointed yet. It's all I've been buying for the past year.
One more plus of constitutional Silver is there isn't the premium associated with bullion. Nice vid BTW! 😃
Thank you for the compliment:)
Silver was above the rate of inflation in 1916. It began to correct soon after 1916.
What is a good price for junk silver 40%and 80%
Coinflation.com will give you an idea.. after that add some premium for the shop
K pd $6 each for 90% halves wanted to know if it was a good price or bad
I want to know where you’re finding barber dimes for “$1-$1.20-$1.30”!!!
Watch my videos. I find a lot of deals.
Justin Russell dang! Down here in Texas it’s hard to find deals like that.
I love junk silver (and your videos) and ya i accumulate it, but i do occasionally buy the 40% and world junk silver cause i can get silver close to spot that way ..i know most people disagree, but i think eventually, it will sell at a much higher premium for two reasons
A.90% us jubk silver the premiums are getting ridiculous, people are gonna get sick of paying high premiums and look for alternatives, such as 40% or world junk silver
B. They arent making anymore of it, so fixed supply+ increase in demand=higher prices,
Great Channel, appreciate the content.
I’ll tell you what I appreciate.. YOU. Always a fan of you coming by to check out my channel.
I love the American history, “Americana”, aspect of coin collecting so that’s why I gravitate towards the coins that were actually used as currency. Plus, in the event of an economic collapse, I believe that many people will find comfort in the familiar and it will be easier to use these kinds of coins to buy day to day items.
Not going to happen in an economic collapse gold or silver worthless
Thanks for the great information !!!!!!!
You’re welcome Jeff!
