I think this woman needs to read a bit more about the plans for 15 minute cities. If you restrict movement from one section of your city to another by means of fines or limiting travel to a certain number of days a year I’d say that was something to talk about - debate with the people of this country. It seems to be coming in without debate.

Brand any other discussion / debate as far right. It’s the left who has stopped engaging in debate and respectful dialogue.
I don’t trust those in power whether they are from the left or the right. But the left need to start intellectually debating those across the spectrum rather than call them names.
Laurence Fox, Oliver from GBNews are decent people and millions share their views. It would be much better if they actually challenged what they say rather than say what horrible people they are.
True and open debate is required for any society to flourish.

Depends what you mean by “travel as you please” - if you wish to move around a city area and not subject those around you to excessive noise, pollution, restrictions on usable space then you can travel as much as you please. If, however, you simply want to be able to travel in your car wherever, whenever you like then yes, you won’t be able to “travel as you please”. This is about understanding that the unrestricted use of cars within city, town and even some village centres is not an inalienable human right whereas access to quiet, clean, enjoyable space is.

    Hello, thanks for your time.
Can you please help me understand why is it necessary to call someone names for just doing their job and following up on what they believe is in the interest of the people they are elected and paid to represent? I genuinely seek to understand why insulting someone is necessary? You seem like a nice person from my first impression of you, and I sincerely wonder what drives these actions.
If we genuinely seek to try and understand one another, I really believe we will more often than not find that we have more in common than in difference. Is it really where we have come to, that our responses are to mock and question someone's moral fiber, even mental health, for believing something different than we do? History tells us that if we continue down this path, it doesn't end well for any of us. Divide and conquer has been a tool of great suffering and war throughout the ages.
I sincerely wish you, your family, and your work much love and peace. I write to you with only one motivation: to build a bridge closer to at least understanding you, rather than creating a dividing chasm between us.
    Regards,
    Jonathan.

15 minutes cuties should be build in a new location with new beautiful houses circles around well designed new town with all and enough facilities built in the centeres of such circles. A d however support this idea can move into these new lication. And it's not about chunking existing cities with established traffic flows into zones.

  • @SultanOxford
    @SultanOxford ปีที่แล้ว +14

No Conspiracy Theory when you look into what can be done. And what 15min cities by Carlos M is all about.
We don't need 15min cities. Majority of the residents already buy "essentials" within their locality, send kids to schools in their local areas (not that they have a choice in the matter or school selection), and visit their GPs/Dentists also in their areas. So, we are already living within "15min cities", each and everyone of us.
Occassionally, we find ourselves shopping in other areas because we don't like the "essentials" locally, or send our kids to better schools in other areas, or better doctors in other areas. But that is OUR CHOICE and OUR RIGHT to go where we want to go, when and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, which form of transport WE CHOOSE. Its not for the government or council to decide what forms of transport I must use or fine people for using the most direct route from 1 zone into another (an interzone charge, in disguise)
So, when the Councils/Governments want to introduce 15min cities, when most are already getting stuff witihn 15mins, then you know there is an ulterior motive.
The ULEZ, the sudden expansion of LTNS, and ANPR Cameras between 'zones' (in the form of bus-gates) and the need for the Councils to define "15min cities" for us is no more of control of our movements in the guise of this "Climate Emergency". Very anti-car and anti-personnal ownership of cars. They wish to reverse car ownership trends so most no longer need a car, as everything will be within the 15min cities and your zone. No need for anyone to question these new laws and agenda, as this climate "emergency" can push laws without the scrutiny they deserve.
Can Councils guarantee that all the essentials within each zone are the same?. The same quality of schools? the Same quality of GPs and Dentists. Nope. So you will ghetto parts of a city (like Oxford) into those zones which are better off and those which are poor standards in comparison. The rich vs the peasants. And at some stage, the power that be will say that since you have everything within your 15min zone. why do you need to venture into another zone. So while we may have 100 pases to travel directly between the propsed new zones in Oxford, these passes (AKA Persmissions) can be reduced/removed later on
Canturbury is proposing no cars can use the direct route between zones. Derby have installed "Vehicle Journey tracking" camers, for "pollution" monitoring. They now just want you to walk, cycle, use public transport as if cars were the cause of the covid lockdowns.
C40 cities agenda being played out worldwide, post-covid lockdowns. Look it up. C40 cities 2030 ideal goals. 0 private car ownership. 0 meat/dairy consumption. 3 new clothes per year. And Mr Sadiq Khan is chairman. Which is why he is pushing ULEZ despite opposition.
Why is it everyone is now talking, proposing and implementing these 15min cities imrmediately after covid-lockdowns. Because like in the covid lockdown, you relied on local stuff and were told not to travel distances. So, now they want to do the same and ensure you have all you need within 15min walk, and do not need to travel elsewhere. Its that waht COnspiracy theorists said would happen with these lockdowns. That restirctions wil be imposed (currenlty on car drivers for the moment)
This must be resisted. And all we get from people like this poster is that we are "far right" and into "Conspiracy Theory"

  • @BanjoLuke1

I write as a lifelong left-leaning voter on the UK. This short clip of the Commons chamber is not great, but nor is it too troubling. The focus of this man's ire is the ULEZ system, not the "15-minute city". Both are admirable and both are worth the hassle. But it is a nuanced topic and this is a Tory MP bleating to please his constituents in an almost empty House. We do not have 'ruling parties' in the UK. He is a Tory, so is from the current party of government. But he is not in government. He is a backbencher with too much to say and nobody to say it to. Out of context, you make this seem rather more grave than it is. The British hard right (in Westminster) is nowhere near as right-wing as the hard right in DC. And the British left is (thank goodness) a proper left, not the sort of cynical re-branded centre-right that markets itself as progressive in the US and still looks like vanilla centre-right to the rest of the democratic world. Don't worry about the odd madcap rant to an empty Commons chamber by a loose cannon. QAnon is not in Westminster yet... This chap is just angry and feels the need to sound important. There's nothing to see here. Smiley emoji.
