I went to college as a non-traditional (a.k.a.- old) student after going through the military experience with so many strong females, and most of my supervisors being strong female leaders; I was startled at how sheepish female students were at a liberal private school (mostly composed of female students) about raising their hand at a professor's invitation to answer a question. There were too many times when I felt compelled to blurt out non sequiturs as a way of encouraging ANY class participation, let alone that of the unnecessarily shy females. A surprising number of those professors later counseled me that due to my "participation grade"; I should consider a route other than finishing college. Also surprising was that it was an even split between male and female professors. It made me think... about why "Academia" has such a reputation for being out of touch with reality. Anyway, yes. I agree that there is still an "at the roots" problem with females not being encouraged enough to speak up in classes at an early age. And now, at 4:53, I shall continue the video...

But if YOU tell a journalist that something is off the record, and then proceed to tell them stuff.... that's your own damn fault. You can say it's off the record but that doesn't magically make it so, the journalist doesn't have to agree with you. and he doesn't have to WARN you, "hey are you sure you wanna keep talking? cause this is going on the record if you do." Wolff made it clear that regardless of what people thought, nothing was off the record. He doesn't have to broadcast that intention. If he's talking to someone and they turn to him and say "by the way, this is off the record", It's not like he's suddenly obligated to honor that request. He can still print whatever he wants. It goes like this... You NEVER tell a reporter something you don't want to be made public, and If you want to be an anonymous source you make HIM make that promise to you BEFORE you give him the quote.

The book isn't all that heavy on derogatory quotes, more details on the cliques, infighting, backstabbing and incompetence.
