Absolutely the best how-to video I've ever seen in my 73 years! Exceptional explanation of details and what's important (and what's not). Visuals were all presented with enough time to grasp all of the nuances associated with the planning, processes and implementation necessary for a perfect outcome. Background music was inspirational and at a low enough level to not dominate the experience. Kudos to you and your staff and a very enthusiastic thank you for all of the time you put into making this excellent video!

We are out of the roll cage business and only focus on suspension now. So passing on what I know before shutting it down seemed like the best thing to do

This video rocks! As a veteran bender from doing custom exhaust tubing for 16 years, I’m getting ready to build my first cage. I’ve been trying to find videos on cage design or even figure out what hoop you start off with. Your video was extremely informative and you actually explain everything with the hows and whys you do things the way you do- which is very similar to my teaching style. Thanks so much for putting in the time to make this. Subscribed!

This is a fantastic video. A few years ago I built my own cage in a 240Z, and while it turned out OK, I wasted a lot of material with screw-ups and mid-course corrections. If I had seen this video prior to the build, it would have helped immensely.

Thanks for sharing of your hard earned experience and wisdom on general fabrication tips and tube bending do’s and don’t’s as well as your reasons and methodologies on cage construction. I really do appreciate that you explained your reasons and logic on various points in the construction of this cage. That was really helpful. Although this wasn’t a cage for a drag racing door car, the general approach, materials, construction and thinking are all the same, to keep the driver safe and add major rigidity to to the chassis. Thanks a ton, bud !

You had me at "rally car cage" 2nd to none on the planet! Getting ready to do my regal in the near future. Coming from fox body mustangs and unibody Im really freaked out over the cage going through body to the frame. Unibody is so much better for an idiot like me. We are all getting to the point a ton of safety work is a must.

  • @michaelmorgado

Have you ever considered implementing an old feature that I believe Porsche used in the 60’s?
They ran a completely sealed and pressurized chassis using regular compressed air and a gauge fitted to it.
… any drop of pressure indicated some sort of structural failure and also aided in locating the crack or cracks.
Ingenious, efficient and effective, just a thought and definitely something else that could set you guys apart from everyone else.

Planning on putting a cage in my C4 (likely using your suspension components also, gotta save pennies up though). Just a street car, the main purpose is to show off my engine conversion - low emissions, low fuel consumption in daily driving V8. I don't need a "certified" cage, but might as well make it safe.

When notching a straight bar like the harness bar, how do you measure the length while considering the notch depth?
(How do you measure the notch mouth depth on both sides where the horizontal bar connects to the down bar?)

Just wanted to add a comment as I noticed a little bit of difficulty in cutting the notch using a hole saw and wanted to suggest annular cutters (rotabroach) of the type usually used in heavy steel work as these have cutting teeth on the faces and sides for milling and would work on your setup.
    Hope this helps

Good video I learned a lot,I've been racing dirt tracks for 30 years all my late models I buy pre built but on my street stock and hobby stocks I normally build them myself,We usually leave like 3" between the cage and roof and sides,The thinking behind that is that during a wreck the body absorbs the initial shock before getting to the cage,Not sure if that helps or not,bit great video thanks for sharing

    • @FDFraceshop

Not recommend but depends on the chassis. For this 350z that bulkhead is arguably stronger than the tubes were installing so it is best to keep.

Super cool video, and great explanation on the order of tube install, and most importantly, why, (i.e, being able to pull the tubes next to the body far enough to have room to complete a weld).
Do you go back once the cage is done to add gussets to the cage, or gusset the cage to the unit-body?
Oh, and get a roll bender...
