I am proud to say I bought a 2003 Toyota Echo stick shift in 2006 and she is 21 years old. I adore my Little Toyota Echo Girl. She was a Toyota dealership car with 30k miles. I have had no major problems and have spent $1,700 on general repairs except for regular maintenance (Regular oil changes, tires, wipers, and batteries) She has almost 200k miles and she still runs strong. Her interior is in perfect condition and looks new. I purchased a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup a couple of months ago, but I drive her very little as I love to drive my Echo girl as she zips through and around traffic perfectly and she is so much fun to drive. I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world ❤.
Road noise is not great Power is not much The rest about the Echo is truly amazing. We have one as a family back up. 4 door automatic cheap to run and vey fuel economical. Its like a motorcycle with 5 seats and a roof so that you do not get wet on rainy days. The space inside is impressive for a small car and the ride is nice as well. One of the best cars Toyota ever made.
@A&B and don't just hit the A/C button, flip the fan off entirely, as the alternator is also bogging down the engine a bit from having the blower on. Trial and error over the nearly 20 years now that I've had two in the family. Rear window defroster also draws a lot. Both on at once means accelleration is even less than the normal 'that'll do' levels. Also, if you've ever driven an old VW bug or an early non-turbo diesel VW, these things are a damn rocket.
These are town/city cars and never really intended to be on freeways but it's the mpg and ease of parking that i wanted.Best car i've ever owned by a mile.
Phantom096 "one of the best cars Toyota ever made"? How do you figure? Don't get me wrong I love Toyotas and own a 2019 rav4, 98 Supra, 97 Celica and a 2018 Corolla. I really don't see how the echo is one of their best cars ever made. I would say that about the Celica or Supra but definitely not this thing. The 3s gte and 2jz engines I think were and still are Toyotas greatest engines ever built.
bought my 2000 echo in 02' and put 200,000 miles on it in a 15 year period. Most dependable car I've ever owned. 5 speed , 4 door model seems to be the most reliable Got up to 47 mpg. I sold my 2000 and regretted it so bad I found a 2001 in good shape and bought it.
A local used car dealer called Shiftn Gears has a 2000 4door for $6000. Does that excite you in 2023? This guy paid $1800 6 years ago!!! I call that Oopsflation. No thank you.
@@ArtOfHealth I had echo 2005 auto . 280,000 Kilometer sold it for $5500 just week ago . these cars reliable and value can increase over the years. you can get kia or Hyundai 2010sh for $6000 but good luck with the troubles later and mechanic bill every once in awhile . so No thank you is just your opinion which lake experience
driving my Echo for 12 years now. Proof that it is a good car with a good engine. This is my secret, don't tell anyone. I would buy another! SHHHHHHHHHH.
@@Lincolnator721 Ive gotten 53mpg with non ethanol gasoline and not running the AC or fan. A stick gets better milage than an automatic. I hypermile and coast as much as possible. I'm driving 2000 Echo for almost 23 years, automatic, sedan, 4-door, don't think I will ever need another car ever :) 150k miles and it runs like new, no oil consumption, just one oxygen sensor went dead and some other maintenance jobs (brakes, rotors, etc, usual stuff)
At the risk of implying I do not love my biological parents, your choice in vehicle leads me to this question: will you adopt me? I am not bother, really, 47 years of age, perfectly well trained and indepent ... and LOVE the Echo! That was a sweet post Sara ... seriously, that was very nice to read.
I'm on my second one as well. I also own a 2006 Scion xB which although is a completely different body, essentially uses the same exact engine and transmission but with more computerization and sensors. Love both these vehicles.
Thank you again for this video. We picked up a 201 Toyota Echo 4 door sedan with manual shift a few years back - on the strength of this video, and it's still driving like a champ! Very fun car! Very reliable, too!
Bought one new in 2000. Only retired it in 2014 with 350,000 KM. Bought 2 more since , both 300,000 on them and have been handed on to the kids. All three were 5 speeds. If you've driven/owned one, your in for life. Best big, little car ever. Head room & trunk space are amazing! Minimal maintenance. Regular oil changes & your in good shape. Echo gu bràth!
lol yeah but in a car that has such a small engine the 5spd is necessary for me to even consider it, if its a v6 camery and has a slush box, what the heck, if its a good deal why not?, but underpowered little gas savers need to be 5spd to even be a remotely pleasant driving expearance
I miss my echo so much! It was my first car until my brother needed it, drove it almost 10 years! Worked absolutely fantastic! It was so fun! A literal go-kart! I want another one so bad!
It's killing me to have to give up my 2002 lol red Echo. It's going on 21yrs and it's been the best lil car. My aunt bought it new in 2002 and when she passed away in 2005 it only had 6,000 mi so i convinced my dad to keep it and when my dad passed away in 2013 i inherited the lil bug. It now only had 117,000 mi. I just love this lil car and it's killing me to have to get rid of it but i need safety features for out of town trips 😭 i hope it's next owner loves it as much as i did.
I LOVE my 2000 Toyota Echo! It was my first car before I went off to college, and I still use it today! It's easy to drive, tall seat interior as you mentioned---which makes it easy for tall people to get in-and-out-of---and great on gas. Granted, it has limited power, but I can fill my tank for less than $30! Love my Echooooo! :)
The car no one wants because they have not experienced it! I love mine. It is amazing, fun, and super economical! I have a 2001 4 door and I’m close to 96000 K. So grateful for this car. And yes this car sits higher than my husbands Acura .
This was my first car. Had it 6 years and the previous owner had it garage kept. A 20 year old car with only 80 thousand miles and still runs like a dream after sitting for 2 years without being drove. I will always love toyota because of this car.
I have a 2001 Echo with almost 200k miles and it's awesome! My Echo runs as well today as it did when we took it off the lot in 2001. By far the most reliable easy maintainable car I've ever owned!!!
Bought my 2003 Toyota Echo new. I have put 375,000 miles on it. Had to replace the starter at 300,000 miles. Everything else is original equipment, including the automatic transmission. It's been an amazing car. The best car I've ever owned, and likely, the best car I'll ever own.
This video convinced me to get my 2001 echo back in October, and can i just say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I love my car, I've spent less than $150 putting work into it, and am working on customizing the inside. Great starter car, and great car to learn how to work on cars with
You'd change your mind if you ever got the car you THINK you want. Bottomless money pits loaded with toys that break vs. an efficient comfortable reliable workhorse that refuses to die.
I have owned a Toyota echo. For many years. It's a 2000 5-speed and I can tell you right now if I were to take my little Toyota go and do the little burnout that you did at the end it would kill my car. Anyhow. It's nice that you post a video about the echo! Too bad they don't make I love my echo because she doesn't have a computer screen in her. You cannot find a car like her! She just celebrated 248,000!
I love my Echo! '02 coupe Manual I also love the ground clearance All the car my child and I need The inside door handles won't fall apart like the Corolla does There's no bottom plastic to get caught and ripped off on parking curbs Maintenance, replacements very very affordable I'm thankful Blessed To own this perfect transporter
This car is so insanely good. Had mine for 320xxxkm and love it so much. Use it for deliveries all the time and get so much money off fuel money. Love it
Hi my 2000 model just died a couple months ago because the gearbox went. I think it was a faulty MAF sensor that caused it to fail quicker. Was for a while having to drive using clutch to compensate for what the MAF sensor was doing. She managed 325,000. If I could afford to fix it I would. Here in Finland the cost of a second hand gearbox and mechanics time is just too great for my wallet just now. I find it almost heartbreaking as losing my Yaris Verso is like losing a loved member of the family :(
just here to say I still have my 2001 Echo. 226k miles on it. Do all the maintenance myself and it still runs like a dream. Transmission fluid isn't even dirty. They built it too strong to allow in today's market.
We LOVED our Echo. Wait, my husband LOVED his Echo. 18 years and 2 cross country road trips when he was a bachelor. He almost cried when he said goodbye to all the memories encased in that little car. He is also 6'6''. Amazing that it fit him.
Sold my 4 dr. 5 spd. '03 after 16 years with just under 500K miles on the odometer. No repairs ... ever. Only maintenance. Absolutely loved the car. My echo looked and drove like new when I sold it. I had it on the market 1 day when I sold it for $4K. BTW: I owned a Tercel for 10 years before the Echo. Same story. No problems ever.
I purchased a 2000 Toyota Echo new the first year the Echo was available. Fantastic fuel efficiency! It's now 19 years old and we still drive it every day. This was a very affordable, basic vehicle that I really loved driving. I prefer vehicles with the display in the center (such as the Echo and Prius). I like that I sat up high and had a good amount of head room for a small car. We have driven this car across the country, in heavy snow storms, and for daily commutes. It almost never had any mechanical issues. I don't think we had to make any repairs (other than a couple of factory recalls) for the first 100,000 miles! Even in the next 100,000 miles the repairs have not been too bad (we did have to replace the tires. muffler, pipe to muffler, and replace lights in the dashboard...and the original CD/ radio/ tape place).
I've owned a 2005 Echo Hatchback since I drove it off the Dealer's lot in 2005. It now has 445,000 Km. (276,510 mi.) ... and it's still going strong. I've replaced the brakes 3x, tires 3x, and alternator (1x) .... finally replaced the exhaust last month. All of these are "wear parts" on ANY vehicle, so no big deal. The engine & trannie & everything else ... no issues or problems, still going strong ! Hoping to get 600,000 km / 400,000 mi before retiring this reliable fuel miser !!
Have had mine for 17 years. Love it because only things I have had to get done is normal maintenance. Nothing has ever broken on it!! My only problem was finding a phone holder that would go on a curved surface. I guess it was made before that issue was a concern. One that you put in cup holder is too low to see it. I did find one with a small enough sticky base I could us on dash but the flattest place blocks the speedometer a bit. Great little car!
Drove mine off the lot in January 2000. The first 150,000 miles we're really hard miles because I used it for surveillance. It now has 331,000 miles, still gets about 40 MPG on the highway, and blows cold air.
At 100,000 miles, any car would need a complete engine overhaul. At 300,000 miles, your car would be on its last legs if you didn't maintain it properly.
I have a 2002 Echo I use to daily drive to about 100k. Parked it for literally 4.5 years with only random starts a few times a year. Last weekend I put new calipers as the old ones were seized from sitting so long. I also replaced the fluids and then charged it up. I am now back to putting miles on it driving to work every day and it hasn't skipped a beat. Amazing cars.
I have a 2001 Echo with 380,000 miles on original engine. Good thing is engine can be replaced with modern day TOYOTA Yaris engines because it is still the same engine, the TOYOTA 1.5L 1NZ-FE I will buy a 2003 model to put in a 2015 Yaris engine. Only thing to keep from the Echo's engine is the intake manifold with its throttle body which is a cable-operated throttle body because on modern 1NZ-FE engines throttle body is electrical type.
@@Bigmoosebelly mazda is super reliable now tho well always has been just some years to avoid and even surpassed them on consumer reports for the first time ever. So don't bash them
The Echo 1NZ-FE is a great, if not exciting, engine. Lived on in the Yaris for a long time too. Economy and reliability are vastly under rated in our "look at me" society.
Marci Shears I actually moved cross country so I had to sell it but I sold it around 353,500 miles. I profited about $1000 from it since I bought it for only $250😭
I never knew another car more faithful than a toyota not so easy it leaves you halfway like many of the new cars, I could cross all of USA without any problem, I just love my Toyota Echo 2001 200,000 miles
@@VehicleHunter I would but we have too many vehicles around our house! Youngest son was the last Echo driver but just purchased his own car. But yes, I'm certain it will go 300K. (FYI - it sold in a matter of hours!)
thank you excellent walk around for the 2003 echo. I love my little plastic Beasti, esp. the MPG, it's not a joke! got the 4 Door, surprisingly comfortable and way more storage space than at first it apeares. Near "bullet Proof", maintenance wise. Thx again for sharing. PS, it's NOT For Sale!
Toyota Echos have timing chains and replacing a timing belt in Canada is typically a $1400.00 ~ $1600.00 job. I would've bought an Echo but a cheap 2002 Rav4 came up and because of snow (and safety concerns) here in Canada I picked the Rav4 instead. Toyota's build quality is excellent, My Rav4 is 17 years old and still runs like a top! Although the 2002 Rav4 only has the 2.0 engine (150 hp) it still does pretty good. With the AWD system the Rav4 still gets pretty decent gas millage (22 mpg in winter) and the AWD is a real beast in the snow as well. The Rav4 still has the original exhaust even after 17 years and the exhaust is still as solid and rust free. I did notice a crack just in front of the front door panel and noticed that Toyota used ABS plastic to make the fenders skin. Nice touch since lots of cars today have cheap door skins which start rusting after 5 ~ 6 years now. Nice thing about this generation Toyota is I can also still work on the car myself. Kudos to Toyota for making great cars that last forever!
I purchased a used 2002 Toyota Echo manual transmission back in 2007 with 30,000 miles. This is the most solid car I have ever owned. Fast forward to 2020 I still have the car with now almost 200,000 miles and no issues. Same engine, same transmission, same everything. I even have the same clutch on it !. I just give it basic maintenance. Best investment I ever made. I will keep it until it dies on me and that might be a long time from now.
to not want an echo could be a big mistake.with regular service they ARE toyota's energizer bunny. in fact they are a commuters dream. absolutely 100% reliable.& can go 250k to 350k without major issues & get great fuel economy.
I got a 2001 echo with 295k miles. She got very little problems. Recently had to change the gas tank and changed the battery 1 year ago. pretty much it. Very good car, i love it.
I love commuting in my Echo... Yeah, it's not the most comfortable but it's dead reliable and the fuel efficiency is awesome. It sits much higher than I expected and should serve as an awesome winter beater.
Just bought a 2003 Echo, 250,000 KM, for $1850 CAD. I feel very confident in this decision. He said there is no known problems and has been well maintained. Let's hope this goes well. I've taken it to an uncle who was a long time mechanic and said I landed a pretty sweet deal.
bought my 2000 2doors 5speed for 1800$cad. 3 years ago. and i love it. i almost 75000km on it since and i put a bit of money for brakes and few other things cause hwy are harsh where im from. but other than that i still love it. actually i just put a new sound system in it cause i know im gonna use that car till it dies. im sure its gonna hold a few more years
It seems like a great economical car for someone going through a downturn. If the manual is fun to drive and doesn’t break cheap on gas insurance and easy to park. Saves a lot of money to do other fun things in life like travel to far away places and eat different food from someplace else.
My mother bought one of these in the year 2000, to this day 18 years later, the car still runs like new and is still as fuel efficient, I use it every day to go to College ( its mine now) I love my Toyota Echo.
Learned to drive stick last year on a 2005 Toyota Echo that my dad had to have shipped from Japan as they were out of production in N.A. by then, with only 115k on it. It still runs great, no issues with the clutch or transmission or anything, sure I can’t be a stupid teenage boy and street race like everyone thinks is cool but I don’t see the purpose of wasting gas money when I can drive something that just exudes memories and casual fun.
I got one of these super cheap in great condition, 4 year later still kicking away and barely needed anything, in the 4 years I've put a wheel bearing and power steering lines.
I bought my 2001 Toyota echo brand new and it runs like a dream. Its so reliable and great on gas. Its definitely for simple people who have no confidence issues. I always say I’m riding my echo to the wheels roll off lol!!
Glad I found this video. I am looking at the Echo for the same exact reasons Anthony stated in the video. It's a simple econobox, has a timing chain, manual locks and windows, less things to go wrong with proper care and maintenance. I find it's harder to find the 4 door version than the 2 door coupe. I believe the Echo preceded the Yaris which was introduced in 2007. I drove the Yaris all over Costa Rica and will say it is one helluva car. I drove it through such extreme terrain (dirt, cobbled stone, mud, off-road). I was impressed.
My uncle got me a 2000 Toyota echo, i didn’t have the key or anything because it didn’t come with the car, but I still loved it for some reason, and when I finally got the key to it I was even happier and loved it even more
Toyota echos are the BEST!! I had my hatchback 4 door for 8 years never had an issue ~ but recently had an accident in it (my fault) I cried that day as it was a write off - honestly the best car always just kept going a brilliant car .
Always admired the mighty Echo, but never had one. I owned the "book end" models of it, the Tercel and Yaris! Both are awesome for reliability. Still driving my 2010 Yaris and have had only one brake job and one battery replacement. Can't go wrong with Toyota!
I'm 6'4" and had 4 of them. Looking for 2 more. Just got signed up with Copart auctions to buy more. Best go-karts I have ever owned. My 2001 has 362,000+ miles now 3/05/23
I've got an 01 2 door and it has the storage under the passenger seat. Had it for 9 year's with no complaints. Bought it with 160,000 miles. Now has 223,000 miles. Drove it to work today as a matter of fact. If it ever dies or get's wrecked, I'll definitely buy another one! When first bought, I installed new plugs, fresh oil and filter, and K & N air filter and got 47.8 miles to a gallon through a full gas tank. 526 miles divided by 11 gallons. Not bad for a 9 year old car (at the time) with 160,000 miles on it! Best car I've ever owned.
My 2003 two door hatch with the 5speed, 1.3L, still running strong with 340,000km and still getting 5L/100km or 47mpg. Just basic servicing is all I've had to do.
I have a 2002 Yaris Auto (UK Spec) 87.000 miles for 9 yrs now just done 30.000 miles only and it drives like a dream! It's Smooth, quick good on fuel and serviced regularly properly and never broken down.
Drove mine from Tucson, Arizona to Montreal, Quebec in DECEMBER BABY! While RV's were hydroplaning and highways closings, my manual transmission, two door front wheel drive kept on chugging along.
In 2018, maybe the height of the economy, we will one day call upon the Gods of Toyota to bring back this ancient relic. With a tail wind in New Mexico, I was getting around 40 mpg on highway (solo passenger, 2 door, manual). I filled mine for less than ... 10 dollars! That was in 2001. And man did people make fun of me. They would say, "did you just get divorced?", or "hey is that an electric?" or "that is about as little car to meet the meaning of car", but I loved it.
I've had lots of different cars. Although I loved the old Volkswagens (2 Rabbits, 2 Sciroccos), muscle cars (two 69 Cougars), 2 Suzukis, my favourite (next to my 4Runner) has been this little 2005 Echo 4 door hatchback. I bought it because my 4Runner was killing me in gas cost. I figure I paid off the Echo in 6 year's gas savings compared to driving the 4Runner over the same interval. So, I only drive the 4Runner on summer camping trips now. I paid $4300 for the Echo 7 years ago and the only thing I've done to it is replace the rotors/pads and change the fluids (oil every 5000 km). It still looks brand new at 265,000 km and it runs perfectly. When i was buying a leather steering wheel from the scrapper, he told me they don't usually get Echos in their stock because no one wants the parts (i.e. they are seldom in the need for replacement engines and transmissions so there isn't much money in providing used parts). One of the dealer mechanics told me (I was buying a rubber door stop) he bought one for his daughter with over 300,000 km on it because he'd seen many of these engines go well over 500,000 km with no problems. Hey, AC, electric door locks, remote entry/alarm-what else do you really need? It's a bullet proof little car for commuting in. I can fit my bike in the back if I take off the front wheel. I have fit a mother, baby in seat, stroller and booster seat in all at the same time!. Might not be comfortable for driving 8 hours at a time (I'm over 6 ft), or colliding with a truck, but I would definitely buy another if this one ever got written off. I think I can go something like 650 km on a tank of gas! Yaris is essentially the same car with the same engine. Love these little cars.
Mine is 2001 1.0litre , does not use oil, had a clutch after someone learned to drive. Has had normal servicing. 50 mpg round town and 71mpg achieved on the highway !! Tyres cheap , brakes cheap . Blue print clutch kit $60.00 2 hours fitting. Great handling , no street cred no worries about being stolen . What's not to like?
Bought my 2001 at 224,000 miles. Put another 25k on it in the time i've had it. No issues other than normal wear and tear from daily driving and a vacuum hose coming lose once. As long as you maintain them, these cars will go over 500k easily. Thinking i'm going to retire mine soon and save it for a project car in the future. For some reason thinking about my little Echo with an LS swap in it makes me giggle uncontrollably.
Recently unmothballed a 2005 Echo, with bumper covers missing (replaced), refurbished computer, new engine mounts and cooling hoses ($2,350 so far). Replaced a 2014 Corolla which I totaled against a dead horse in an expressway in December 2018. It has 355k miles (571,300 km) and it runs extremely well even for relatively long distances. Only major mechanical job was a transmission replacement in late 2010 (5 speed manual). It has given me no worries for the last month or so that it has become (again!) my daily driver...
bought a 02 today for $1400 163K runs like a top 5 speed manual. Only con is needs new driver seat. Also has a belt squeel when turning on AC. Plan on using it as a winter car to get back and forth to work as I store my Fiesta ST in the winter. 62 miles round trip all highway to my job. Hoping I bought a great car for the job!
When my grandparents lived in prince Edward island and Nova Scotia years ago they had a small little light grey Toyota echo. It was a nice little car. We would go on long drives along the beautiful maritime canada coast.
I had an 01 Echo, thing was a tank. Only ever opened the hood twice, once when I bought it to change the oil and once again to change the oil again 5000 miles later, and then I crashed it. Have to say, safety wise this car always scared me to crash, but turns out from experience it's a pretty safe vehicle. I ended up t boning an SUV while going 80mph on the freeway, sandwiched the whole front end and crushed part of the engine. But I was fine, have had slight back issues but walked away without any sort of injuries other than bruises. For $1600 and never having to open the hood other than scheduled maintenance, I couldn't say anything bad about this car.
Bought a used Echo 2000 over 20 years ago and still going strong. Lots of CV joints due to living in Alaska but the rest of the car just keeps going. On my way to 300,000 miles....
The two door model is surprisingly roomy in the front. You can put the seats right back and with all that head room it feels like you are driving a much bigger car. And those big doors make getting in and out so easy. Much better than the four door model if you only have a family of two and don't use the back seat for anything but parcels.
You cant reverse in snow... The beam rear suspension act like a shovel and jam.. I got stuck many times.. Dayum. My older civic was a real snow car, never got stuck even in heavy snow. (I live in canada)
I had an echo for 5 years, best car ever. Never broke down once, and people were constantly offering to buy it.

Road noise is not great
Power is not much

One of the best cars Toyota ever made.
With the AC on and the radio on, road noise is lessened. Turn off the AC when passing or going up hill and you should see some more power.
Change the air filter will buy you another 10 hp. For real.

Selling that echo was your worst decision man, this little car goes

I'm driving 2000 Echo for almost 23 years, automatic, sedan, 4-door, don't think I will ever need another car ever :) 150k miles and it runs like new, no oil consumption, just one oxygen sensor went dead and some other maintenance jobs (brakes, rotors, etc, usual stuff)
I've had 2 of them. Bought my kid one too. Love my Echos.
th-cam.com/video/XBA8ouJEu9Q/w-d-xo.html its a fun ride.
They are so rare, they only went for one generation and I rarely ever see them on the road,
We bought our 2001Echo used in 2003 with around 38,000 now 16 yrs later it has over 440,000 miles and still amazes me every day..
Holy cow!! What issues have you had?
Curious as well
I heard they're one of the most reliable Toyota's ever built by Toyota.
omg what repairs
Yes, headroom, leg room, storage, this thing is a magician.
They are fun little cars when they're 5spd but literally the last car I would want in auto slush box
Sean Andrew the automatic trans in these cars isn’t bad at all, but I do agree that the 5 speed is significantly more fun.
lol yeah but in a car that has such a small engine the 5spd is necessary for me to even consider it, if its a v6 camery and has a slush box, what the heck, if its a good deal why not?, but underpowered little gas savers need to be 5spd to even be a remotely pleasant driving expearance
I miss my echo so much! It was my first car until my brother needed it, drove it almost 10 years! Worked absolutely fantastic! It was so fun! A literal go-kart! I want another one so bad!
I will take all of the Echos out there. They are simple, reliable and easy to work on. Give me an Echo over anything currently being made
Ive got six. They never breakdown and sip fuel.
@@oldperson951 Wow, that's a whole lotta love! You're good for another 100 years of driving.

This car is so insanely good. Had mine for 320xxxkm and love it so much. Use it for deliveries all the time and get so much money off fuel money. Love it
2005 Echo has 200000Km. I want a new car, but just can't get rid of this marvel. It is that good. You cannot stop this sewing machine engine.
Are you crazy? It will probably go another 400,000kms. You"ll regret selling it.
I have one now!! Bought it for $700, runs perfect
Same story. No problems ever.
you did not sell a 16 year old echo with half a MILLION miles for $4,000. you are lying.
@@conzmoleman hahahahaha
It did NOT look, drive 'like new' with half a million miles on it. You're grossly exaggerating or it's complete BS.
I had the same issue with finding a cell phone holder. I ended up going with one that sticks to your windshield. Echo's rock!
We will never see a car like this ever again.
I brought Mine in 2003 still have it I love it.
My 2001 5 speed, 316,000+ kms. I get 700+ kms per 40 litres of gas. 17 years old now, I bought it New. It’s a fabulous little car.
I have a 2003 model. I have been driving it since 2007 and it has done 430000 kms so far. Its a great car.
Had my 03 Echo for about a year, like it so much I'm selling my other car for a 2nd Echo. Simple, reliable, clean, couldn't ask for a better car.
I have a 2001 Echo with 380,000 miles on original engine.
Good thing is engine can be replaced with modern day TOYOTA Yaris engines because it is still the same engine, the TOYOTA 1.5L 1NZ-FE
I will buy a 2003 model to put in a 2015 Yaris engine. Only thing to keep from the Echo's engine is the intake manifold with its throttle body which is a cable-operated throttle body because on modern 1NZ-FE engines throttle body is electrical type.
EM6285 be careful the Yaris is now a Mazda motor according to Scotty Kilmer
@@Bigmoosebelly mazda is super reliable now tho well always has been just some years to avoid and even surpassed them on consumer reports for the first time ever. So don't bash them
The Echo 1NZ-FE is a great, if not exciting, engine. Lived on in the Yaris for a long time too. Economy and reliability are vastly under rated in our "look at me" society.
The echo is the second name of the yaris

Update ?

I love commuting in my Echo... Yeah, it's not the most comfortable but it's dead reliable and the fuel efficiency is awesome. It sits much higher than I expected and should serve as an awesome winter beater.
Just bought a 2003 Echo, 250,000 KM, for $1850 CAD. I feel very confident in this decision. He said there is no known problems and has been well maintained. Let's hope this goes well. I've taken it to an uncle who was a long time mechanic and said I landed a pretty sweet deal.
bought my 2000 2doors 5speed for 1800$cad. 3 years ago. and i love it. i almost 75000km on it since and i put a bit of money for brakes and few other things cause hwy are harsh where im from. but other than that i still love it. actually i just put a new sound system in it cause i know im gonna use that car till it dies. im sure its gonna hold a few more years
If i go buy an echo really in truely dont bother with mechanic. Most people drive these cars care for them
It seems like a great economical car for someone going through a downturn.
Toyota echo is the most dependable car I've ever owned.
1NZ-FE for ever! 06 scion xa with the same engine. SO good!
I got one of these super cheap in great condition, 4 year later still kicking away and barely needed anything, in the 4 years I've put a wheel bearing and power steering lines.
Those damn lines always rust, too low.

You think a v6 could fit in it?
My niece has a 2002 Echo with 49,000 miles! Im driving it daily for the next week and I actually love the simplicity. It.. it just works.
I bought my 2001 Toyota echo brand new and it runs like a dream. Its so reliable and great on gas. Its definitely for simple people who have no confidence issues. I always say I’m riding my echo to the wheels roll off lol!!
2000 miles until reach 300000 miles with my Echo! I love her very much!
I have an echo. Family had it since year 2000... I’m 20 years old and it i love it it’s fun. Good on gas
Picked up a 2001 Echo 4 speed manual in 2017 for 2k. Best car I have ever owned! Never breaks down, easy to self maintain. Overall no drama.. love it.
Always admired the mighty Echo, but never had one. I owned the "book end" models of it, the Tercel and Yaris! Both are awesome for reliability. Still driving my 2010 Yaris and have had only one brake job and one battery replacement. Can't go wrong with Toyota!
I bought a 2003 echo sedan 30k miles for $500 all it needs is a battery and basic tune up. I think it's a good deal..

My '03 runs great no oil usage and still 30+ mpg all this with 288K miles!!
Owned 2... Best car I ha e owned in 37 years of driving. Only the battery in years of ownership
Just basic servicing is all I've had to do.
easy 200,000 mile car. 35mpg city. for the people who want more for there money. reliable I would drive without a worry across the usa.
agreed, excellent basic transportation, has no business being this good for this cheap. I love the numerous storage compartments.
I have a 2002 Yaris Auto (UK Spec) 87.000 miles for 9 yrs now just done 30.000 miles only and it drives like a dream! It's Smooth, quick good on fuel and serviced regularly properly and never broken down.
Tardeli costantini 30000 mileage??
Such a cute car!! Lasts forever too!!
That made me giggle, also, but would be cool..
Had my 87 Toyota new off the showroom floor had it till 2008 was 300,000kms
Then I got a 2004 echo
Love Toyotas!!!😁
Dirt cheap to buy, insure and maintain. Dead reliable and easy to work on. They're great little cars.
That 1NZ-FE is a great engine. Long life, durable and easy maintenance. I have a 4-door Yaris S with a 5-speed. It's alter ego is the Echo.
I bought mine new. It's got 283k on it. I love it! Thanks for posting this video about a hidden gem.
Funny title, this car last a long time and very reliable. Its worth every penny. He said had had bought 3 Toyota Echo's, they are hard to find now.
I drive Eco 2003....till now, and I love it
That car is cute. My mum has one and i really enjoy it. Gr8 car
Best car ever have had mine for 10 years only needed now tires this whole time amd 1 battery
bought a 02 today for $1400 163K runs like a top 5 speed manual. Only con is needs new driver seat. Also has a belt squeel when turning on AC. Plan on using it as a winter car to get back and forth to work as I store my Fiesta ST in the winter. 62 miles round trip all highway to my job. Hoping I bought a great car for the job!
by now you probably know you got an awesome car.
Yea been driving the shit out of it already back and forth to work. Runs like a top! And that gas mileage is amazing as well!
yeah, we agree. One of the best cars for commuting.
MsDannyrevs My AC squeels too but after i had it changed as the belts needed replacing anyway, maybe needs wearing in lol
Oh my gosh, so surprised u survived scary, good to know though
My 2000 is approaching 270000. My wife says I have driven it long enough and should "upgrade"😂..... not gonna happen 😂
I own one with 377,000 miles (and counting) but I don't worry a bit because is like driving an American vehicle with with 37,000 miles
Shock Master Omg!! I have a Echo with 223000 and I was a little bit worried for the high mileage.
Thats alot of miles! Well done, keep us updated.
How is this car handling under heavy loads when u travelling??
@@VehicleHunter mine has 245,000 I never worry about going long distances very reliable
Shock Master lol I saw that on TH-cam it was hilarious when he fell through the wall
Hilarious. You said you bought this 6 years ago for $1800. Now, same car goes for close to $5000. Insane car prices now.
I have three, terrible on snow, but generally awesome. Got a deer with mine last year, $40 for parts to repair. Things an economical deer killer too!
Any venison left over? Did the deer fit in the trunk?
Drive mine on snow put snow tires on it I live in Michigan and deal with lake effect
You cant reverse in snow... The beam rear suspension act like a shovel and jam.. I got stuck many times.. Dayum. My older civic was a real snow car, never got stuck even in heavy snow. (I live in canada)
My Toyota echo is rather good in snow if you pair it with snow tires
:0
Brooklyn Troutman You tried it in 1ft of snow? My older civic was lower and still better in snow... My guess was the rear independant suspension.
