I've owned the 2000 and the bought a 2005 and still have it. I've worked it hard lugging stuff over a tall hill three times a week. It has 140000 milage. Just had to replace two sets of bearings and had the brakes done. Had to have new engine mounts. Besides normal maintenance running good. The engine has alot of wobble vibration as most older toyotas do. Still average about 29mpg. Use it now for jaunts around town. I wish this model was still in production. The new Yaris models all have Mazda engines and will never live this long. My friend in Mexico tells me they are everywhere with some going over 300000 miles. Its a great car for visibility and tall people as the interior is shaped like an egg. The mechanics love it as repair access is easy. I have noticed that the car does wear through tires a little sooner than expected.
I never dreamed I would watch a review of an Echo. They are so plain Jane ion the automotive world. There is only one in the town I live in in northeast Georgia.
yours is in way better condition than mine. I have the same one but in grey, the paint is in really bad condition. But works well for a car that's about to hit 400k miles on it. Those manual trans hold well.

@@pablobruise1388 power steering was optional. my echo coupe does not have power steering. its so light that it doesn't really matter much unless you're at speed though.
With fuel and cost of living what it is Echo's are your poor mans Ev without the battery, better than the Yaris which is the same car, just with 200kg of extra crap I don't need or care about and worse economy and less power because of it. Luckily they were insanely popular in Australia so you can get a really nice ones for 3 or 4 grand with spare parts easy to find for another decade minimum. Which is why this will be my next car, the hatch version, not the sedan seen here though, it got hit with the ugly stick so many times it doesn't even look like the same car anymore :) oh and some of them came with an all black interior that utterly transforms how they feel inside compared to that two tone blue most of them have, how that made it out of the fugly idea phase I will never know.
Auto is more convenient until the transmission fails and the whole car goes in the bin because they cost so much to fix or replace. Which is not a bit convenient.
I love Toyota echoes!! Best car ever made.
