Itachi and jiraiya was the only two strong enough at the time to protect the village. That’s why he left him alone. He wasn’t going to allow the only two protectors of the village left to kill each other. The 3rd hokage wasn’t on their level anymore and was jus a figure head.

Itachi was acting 💀. He didn’t want to harm the leaf village and he definitely didn’t want the Akatski to get their hands on Naruto so he used Jiraiya as an excuse to not attack. But in reality Itachi could have shit on Jiraiya. If you look at when Itachi was reanimated he was way stronger than KCM1 Naruto which we know is stronger than Jiraiya, and Itachi had to save both KCM1 Naruto and Bee from Nagato.

Yeah, nice head canon but it's not what he said or ever said. He was willing to kill other leaf ninja and had no real desire to protect Naruto, he never interfered in other kidnapping attempts. So yeah, while he probably didn't want to speed up the plan he also wasn't going to stop it either. Jiraiya was likely a good excuse not to take Naruto right then, but it's also true that it probably would have been to much of a fight for the two of them. Not even saying that together they couldn't have won. Just that they both be on the verge of death at the end of it at best. He'll, if nothing else Jiraiya probably could have pushed Itachi hard enough that his disease would have taken him out.

As he admits and his stats in the stat books, Itachis sickness means he has low stamina, Itachi is being smart Jiraiya just has too many advantages Although Itachi even nerfed as an edo tensei, he didn't have that handicap of being sick and he threw hands with ease against Naruto in his Kyubii mode so that could be a different story..
But thing is when kisame said this, he didn't know he was sick. Itachis sickness was progressive but it was also new. It was caused by his mangekyo but it didn't really become a visible problem till the preparation for the fight with sasuke. Where he actually physically coughed up blood and went blind. Remember the timeskip between the Uchiha massacare it was about 5 years. Which madara told him there was a 25% chance with his medication which we all saw sasuke after his fight with killer bee

Could Itachi beat Jiraiya? Yes. Could Jiraiya beat Itachi? Yes. The fact is that Jiraiya was one of the few on Itachi's level of ability. Some may say that Itachi beat Orochimaru easily therefore should beat Jiraiya as well, but that's not how any of this works. Different people have different strengths and weaknesses. We don't really know how a fight between them would go, but Itachi was probably being cautious. He was being cautious about Kakashi as well. Oh, and he was a secret ally of the Leaf and probably didn't want to fight and potential kill an ally.
Itachi sent the lady via genjustu to warn Jiraiya since with Kisame he couldn't meet in person to give regular intel. Make the situation tense and look real enough not to arouse suspicion. Itachi cover is still intact.

And let's not forget that Jiraya struggled against Pain while Itachi defeated Nagato (who was more powerful than Pain).

If Itachi had gone against Nagato solo then I think Itachi is going to lose pretty badly. A much more fair fight would be Itachi vs Pain, but I still think that Itachi loses that one since Itachi does actually die due to exhausting his chakra. So does Nagato, but Nagato did way more impressive things leading up to his death.
Itachi was the best double agent ever. He was always being a shadow hokage working from behind the scenes. He knew that not only would he probably lose that fight cuz jiraya is not to be messed with and he was trying to protect people from the akatsuki so it made sense to play off the fear in kisame and himself in that moment. Plus Itachi also knew that Sasuke and Naruto were close and he wasn’t gonna do that to his brother he had already tortured the kid enough Itachi did what he had to do to protect the village but he couldn’t kill his little brother. The Uchiha clan was planning an uprising and the only person Itachi couldn’t truly kill was his brother so he did the only thing he could think to do in that moment and made his brother hate him for it and made him think he became an evil man to protect him cuz he loved Sasuke deeply and wanted better for him.

Itachi also sick, and jiraiya has sealing swords aswell in his arsenal as seen with the fight against pain. Along with sage justu (said to be a class of its own) and one of the most powerful genjutsu said to rival Tsukuyomi

Not only was there only 3/6 paths of pain actually fighting, but 2 of the paths he was fighting were SUPPORT paths, not even known for their 1v1 or offensive capabilities, but known for their passive abilities that don't cause harm or fatigue the opponent. And 1 of those 3 didn't even use their rinnegan ability (the soul stealing) so technically he was fighting only 2 paths who were also holding back by not using their stronger jutsu so as to not destroy their own village. The SECOND all 6 paths of pain stepped in he got one shot and put on his death bed. Also, orochimarus summons have been shown to be able to blitz gamabunta, itachi one shot and sealed orochimarus summon in an instant, WHILE itachi was on his death bed, seconds away from death already. So no, jiraiyas summons wouldn't work against itachis susanoo. Jiraya can easily beat Itachi bcz he can seal Amaterasu and he can easily break any genjutsu. If u don't know this and telling Itachi is more powerful then u haven't watched Naruto.
Sealing takes way too much time to prepare for how fast amaterasu is. Minato barely got the sealing jutsu off in time to teleport a bijuu bomb which is arguably slower than amaterasu activation. He also wouldn’t be able to escape tsukuyomi, which doesn’t require eye contact either. When kakashi was put in a tsukuyomi, tsunade (the worlds best medical ninja at the time) couldn’t even get him out of it, so what do you actually expect jiraiya to do that tsunade wouldn’t have already tried?

Because he needs his paper seals to seal it and if Itachi hits Jiraya with amaterasu then it will quickly cover Jiraya's body, clothes and Jiraya's paper seals will start burning as well so he cant use them, also Itachi is billion times faster, he can kill Jiraya without even amaterasu. Also no one can escape tsukuyomi, only those who have ms and mastered using their ms, Jiraya doesnt even have regular sharingan, he can never escape it. How do you figure that when the strongest Sannin was Orochimaru and he was easily beaten twice by Itachi without him breaking a sweat. Itachi and Jiraiya tie for the highest skills stats in the series. Itachi very likely acknowledged that he is a real threat, and absolutely acknowledged he didn't want to rob the leaf village if such valuable assets in Jiraiya and Naruto. As for which would win....50/50.

Fr people are delusional. Itachi was literally a double agent for the leaf. If he killed Jiraya then the village would have suffered a huge loss, which isn’t in Itachi’s interest. And power wise, they’re not even close. Jiraya would have no answer to Tsukuyomi or the Susanno. Heck I’d argue that he could even be put in danger by some of his other Genjutsu if Jiraya doesn’t realize he’s in one. Granted he does know release and Naruto broke one of them. (Though I don’t think Itachi went all out, especially since it was a 30% clone and I think he probably exercised some restraint towards Naruto.) He just doesn’t have win cons against Itachi. Besides, he has no shot of getting sage mode activated. There is no shot Itachi would just let him do that. Even if he did, Itachi killed Orochimaru’s strongest form with relative ease, so there is no shot sage mode stands a chance.
I like and respect both Itachi and Jiraiya, agreed I doubt Itachi wanted to risk going up against Jiraiya bc deep down Itachi wants to protect the leaf village but imo you can't really use comparisons, Itachi owned Orochimaru, yes and Orochimaru beat Jiraiya, Tsunade and Naruto with help from Kabuto but everyone had a handicap in that episode besides kabuto i think and remember Jiraiya almost defeated pain, he very well could have with more info. You think Orochimaru or Itachi could pull that off? Sorry but I doubt it. This is why anime comparisons are non comparable IMO

Itachi knows his limits(despite his auto-immune disease). He also respects the power and skill set of other powerful shinobi.The way itachi and Kisame mention Jaraiya strength is a firm respect of his abilities. Itachi also mentioned before that if he face Jaraiya? Both of them will die....
I see a lot of comments either saying Itachi didn't want to hurt the Leaf by killing/severly wounding himself and Jiraiya (or likewise wanting to protect his brother from the Akatsuki) or that Itachi truthfully didn't think he could beat Jiraiya. Honestly I'm inclined to believe both explanations. Jiraiya went toe to toe with Pain, who we know is stronger than Itachi, and even though he lost, it still proves Itachi would have his work cut out for him. He also wasn't able to escape without using Amaterasu. Finally, his fight with Sasuke proved an all-out fight against a strong opponent while utilizing the MS would be enough to drain him completely. More than likely, a fight to the death against Jiraiya would either end with Itachi's death or Itachi losing his sight since he wouldn't be able to beat Jiraiya without MS. So yeah, Itachi was telling the truth even if he also had other reasons to avoid a fight Jiraiya. Edit: Also if he was just saying this to keep away from Sasuke, it'd be kinda redundant since they ended up confronting Sasuke anyway.
Even if Itachi is basically a pacifist, that doesn't mean that he can't mobilize and adapt in an unnatural situation, especially if the confrontation is a serious one, he prefers most of the time to finish the fights as quickly as possible, that's why Itachi should never be underestimated. Itachi lived his whole life so that Sasuke could defeat him and become an Uchiha hero as well as a hero of the leaf. That, obviously, didn’t go as planned. However, it did allow Sasuke to grow and begin to start asking the right questions that would eventually lead him to becoming the man he (Itachi) wanted him to be. (Itachi was killed so that Sasuke could grow more powerful both as a character (to us in a real world moral sense) and as a Ninja. Itachi from the get go was extremely talented which more precisly means that Itachi just like Minato was pretty much an unique, authentic and especially unpredictable Shinobi which could exceed or overcome almost any expectations. (at least that's what we were shown in the anime by the creator Masashi Kishimoto himself) In my opinion No One in the series should underestimate such an unpredictable Shinobi like Itachi, even Madara (I won't say that Itachi can beat him, but at least he will be pretty much able to put a decent fight that Madara will also be impressed in my opinion). That is why it is arguable/debatable that he probably could or could not defeat foes like Minato, Obito or Pain/Nagato. Itachi was also a prodigy from birth and he knew all sorts of tricks and he's definitely a troublesome fellow to encounter. In my opinion, they are both very versatile, unique, interesting and especially very unpredictable in their way of fighting style approach. If you make an effort to look or to rewatch at all of Itachi's fights, you might discover that he's pretty much always able to outsmart anyone during a fight or a encounter, because of his unpredictability in his way of fighting style approach. His way of thinking and his calmness, intelligence and battle IQ experience factor it's very authentic and underrated, his true potential remain still unknown, because he wasn't go all out against anyone during the series.🤷🏻♂️☯️ I don't understand how some of you guys even dare or can to underestimate Itachi like that, many of you guys forget that Itachi isn't just any ordinary shinobi either, he is still considered by a very wide range of Naruto connoisseurs to be a very unique and unpredictable character at the same time and no one should underestimate him as some of you guys currently do. ;/ ☯️🤷🏻♂️What you have to remember, is that even in his battle with Sasuke, he has been fighting to lose. Itachi has always attempted to avoid conflict at all costs. He has to maintain his cover as an Akatsuki member, so he has to make viable excuses to avoid battle. When he says that fighting Jiraiya would have serious consequences, we know that he has an innate desire not to fight anyone at all, let alone a hero of the leaf, and he was a spy protecting Konoha from shadows. He could have killed Kakashi with ease. Kakashi even states that Itachi could have killed him, and wondered why he didn't. Knowing this, it is easy to see the pieces that point to a picture of Itachi that is devastatingly powerful in combat. In his confrontation with Asuma and Kurenai when he enters Konoha, we see him send Kurenai flying a large distance with a simple kick. We also see him deflect chidori, and snap Sasuke's arm like a twig with a single hand. He also sends Sasuke flying clear down the hallway with another kick in this fight. He is obviously a powerful, versatile, unpredictable and underrated taijutsu user. We know that he can kill with a glance using Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu, and become nearly invincible with his Susanoo. We see him use exploding clones, (it's his one of his unpredictability in his fighting way approach) powerful genjutsu not linked to his sharingan, ( with a single point of a one of his fingers) and making hand seals at insane speeds. He kicks the shit out of Kakashi and he barely moves. Tobi also tells us himself that Itachi could have killed him if it weren't for carefully guarded secrets. Orochimaru beats Tsunade and Jiraiya without the use of his arms. Granted, Jiraiya was drugged, but it's still the point. Orochimaru couldn't use seals at all. Itachi obliterated Orochimaru effortlessly. Itachi has been a step above from the beginning. In order for him to keep his cover in Akatsuki, he had to avoid conflict without arousing suspicion, and the best way to do that was to present himself as being much less powerful than he actually is. The one thing we have been able to see in detail, is his intelligence and unpredictability in his fighting way approach. Itachi has been shown to be able to plan events years in advance, to account for possible flaws in his plans with powerful contingencies, and to use every possibility to his advantage. Shikamaru plans a few hours in advance, and we label him a tactical genius. If that is the case, what does one even call Itachi? The only real flaws that Itachi possesses is a smaller chakra reserves, and his own morality which keeps him from gaining Eternal Mangekyo. But even the chakra is arguable. The techniques we see him use are enormously powerful, and would therefor have a huge chakra cost. I'm not going to say he is the most powerful character in the anime, but I am going to say he is definitely very very high on that list, and probably higher than most people seem to give him credit for. Lastly but not least, Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. 🤷🏻♂️☯️✌️
Dont forget that jiraya took on multiple pain without any knowledge about their ability and almost won if it wasn't for the broken power of resurrection. Even then he figured out their secret and sent a message while dying. Itachi himself is on another level. Only the writers can decide who will win. So debating about it is pointless.
Remember Itachi visited the village when the village was destroyed. He definitely heard of it and came to check on Sasuke. Itachi also wanted to let Kakashi and Jiraya know about Akatsuki's ambitions. He told Kakashi and Jiraya about it indirectly. When kidnapping Naruto, Itachi wasted his time by fighting Sasuke, not running away with Naruto. Do you actually think there was any need for Itachi to fight Sasuke?? He could have put Sasuke under genjutsu and let him see his parents and the clan die 5000 times like Itachi did the first time. Also remeber Jiraya has seal led Amaterasu in the Manga. So basically Itachi and Jiraya are both on the same level. ITACHI and JIRAYA have a 50-50 chance of winning against each other. BOTH ARE LORD AND LEGENDARY SHINOBIS WHO DIED FOR THE LEAF VILLAGE
Itachi did the same thing when Guy pulled up. He KNOWS the hitters in his village and fucking around with them could mean death. He only toyed with Kakashi because Kakashi was going against a natural and one of the most gifted when it cokes to the Sharingan. Pervy Sage go Sage Mode and them mfs are COOKED.

Two things can be true at once. Itachi could be underselling himself to manipulate Kesume into avoiding a fight to protect Juriya (and Naruto). And Juriya could have also definitively been able to win in a fight vs Itachi and Kesume. Fans like to think in absolute terms, but there are also things like the random chaos of battle to account for and the idea of Naruto dying in the crossfire and the 9-tails getting released that should be factored into the calculus being done here. Personally I don't think Itachi was lying, and truly believed Juriya would most likely win that fight, but also knew it was MUCH more complicated of a situation than a simple power level comparison that fans want to boil it down too.

Itachi and jiraiya was the only two strong enough at the time to protect the village. That’s why he left him alone. He wasn’t going to allow the only two protectors of the village left to kill each other. The 3rd hokage wasn’t on their level anymore and was jus a figure head.

But in reality Itachi could have shit on Jiraiya. If you look at when Itachi was reanimated he was way stronger than KCM1 Naruto which we know is stronger than Jiraiya, and Itachi had to save both KCM1 Naruto and Bee from Nagato.

Jiraiya was likely a good excuse not to take Naruto right then, but it's also true that it probably would have been to much of a fight for the two of them. Not even saying that together they couldn't have won. Just that they both be on the verge of death at the end of it at best.

If Itachi had gone against Nagato solo then I think Itachi is going to lose pretty badly. A much more fair fight would be Itachi vs Pain, but I still think that Itachi loses that one since Itachi does actually die due to exhausting his chakra. So does Nagato, but Nagato did way more impressive things leading up to his death.

Itachi was the best double agent ever. He was always being a shadow hokage working from behind the scenes. He knew that not only would he probably lose that fight cuz jiraya is not to be messed with and he was trying to protect people from the akatsuki so it made sense to play off the fear in kisame and himself in that moment. Plus Itachi also knew that Sasuke and Naruto were close and he wasn’t gonna do that to his brother he had already tortured the kid enough Itachi did what he had to do to protect the village but he couldn’t kill his little brother. The Uchiha clan was planning an uprising and the only person Itachi couldn’t truly kill was his brother so he did the only thing he could think to do in that moment and made his brother hate him for it and made him think he became an evil man to protect him cuz he loved Sasuke deeply and wanted better for him.

Not only was there only 3/6 paths of pain actually fighting, but 2 of the paths he was fighting were SUPPORT paths, not even known for their 1v1 or offensive capabilities, but known for their passive abilities that don't cause harm or fatigue the opponent.
And 1 of those 3 didn't even use their rinnegan ability (the soul stealing) so technically he was fighting only 2 paths who were also holding back by not using their stronger jutsu so as to not destroy their own village. The SECOND all 6 paths of pain stepped in he got one shot and put on his death bed. Sealing takes way too much time to prepare for how fast amaterasu is. Minato barely got the sealing jutsu off in time to teleport a bijuu bomb which is arguably slower than amaterasu activation. He also wouldn’t be able to escape tsukuyomi, which doesn’t require eye contact either. When kakashi was put in a tsukuyomi, tsunade (the worlds best medical ninja at the time) couldn’t even get him out of it, so what do you actually expect jiraiya to do that tsunade wouldn’t have already tried?

And power wise, they’re not even close. Jiraya would have no answer to Tsukuyomi or the Susanno. Heck I’d argue that he could even be put in danger by some of his other Genjutsu if Jiraya doesn’t realize he’s in one. Granted he does know release and Naruto broke one of them. (Though I don’t think Itachi went all out, especially since it was a 30% clone and I think he probably exercised some restraint towards Naruto.) He just doesn’t have win cons against Itachi. Besides, he has no shot of getting sage mode activated. There is no shot Itachi would just let him do that. I see a lot of comments either saying Itachi didn't want to hurt the Leaf by killing/severly wounding himself and Jiraiya (or likewise wanting to protect his brother from the Akatsuki) or that Itachi truthfully didn't think he could beat Jiraiya. Honestly I'm inclined to believe both explanations. Jiraiya went toe to toe with Pain, who we know is stronger than Itachi, and even though he lost, it still proves Itachi would have his work cut out for him. He also wasn't able to escape without using Amaterasu. Finally, his fight with Sasuke proved an all-out fight against a strong opponent while utilizing the MS would be enough to drain him completely. More than likely, a fight to the death against Jiraiya would either end with Itachi's death or Itachi losing his sight since he wouldn't be able to beat Jiraiya without MS.
So yeah, Itachi was telling the truth even if he also had other reasons to avoid a fight Jiraiya.
Edit: Also if he was just saying this to keep away from Sasuke, it'd be kinda redundant since they ended up confronting Sasuke anyway.
Even if Itachi is basically a pacifist, that doesn't mean that he can't mobilize and adapt in an unnatural situation, especially if the confrontation is a serious one, he prefers most of the time to finish the fights as quickly as possible, that's why Itachi should never be underestimated. Itachi lived his whole life so that Sasuke could defeat him and become an Uchiha hero as well as a hero of the leaf. That, obviously, didn’t go as planned. However, it did allow Sasuke to grow and begin to start asking the right questions that would eventually lead him to becoming the man he (Itachi) wanted him to be. (Itachi was killed so that Sasuke could grow more powerful both as a character (to us in a real world moral sense) and as a Ninja. Itachi from the get go was extremely talented which more precisly means that Itachi just like Minato was pretty much an unique, authentic and especially unpredictable Shinobi which could exceed or overcome almost any expectations. (at least that's what we were shown in the anime by the creator Masashi Kishimoto himself) In my opinion No One in the series should underestimate such an unpredictable Shinobi like Itachi, even Madara (I won't say that Itachi can beat him, but at least he will be pretty much able to put a decent fight that Madara will also be impressed in my opinion). That is why it is arguable/debatable that he probably could or could not defeat foes like Minato, Obito or Pain/Nagato. Itachi was also a prodigy from birth and he knew all sorts of tricks and he's definitely a troublesome fellow to encounter. In my opinion, they are both very versatile, unique, interesting and especially very unpredictable in their way of fighting style approach. If you make an effort to look or to rewatch at all of Itachi's fights, you might discover that he's pretty much always able to outsmart anyone during a fight or a encounter, because of his unpredictability in his way of fighting style approach. His way of thinking and his calmness, intelligence and battle IQ experience factor it's very authentic and underrated, his true potential remain still unknown, because he wasn't go all out against anyone during the series.🤷🏻♂️☯️ I don't understand how some of you guys even dare or can to underestimate Itachi like that, many of you guys forget that Itachi isn't just any ordinary shinobi either, he is still considered by a very wide range of Naruto connoisseurs to be a very unique and unpredictable character at the same time and no one should underestimate him as some of you guys currently do. ;/ ☯️🤷🏻♂️What you have to remember, is that even in his battle with Sasuke, he has been fighting to lose. Itachi has always attempted to avoid conflict at all costs. He has to maintain his cover as an Akatsuki member, so he has to make viable excuses to avoid battle. When he says that fighting Jiraiya would have serious consequences, we know that he has an innate desire not to fight anyone at all, let alone a hero of the leaf, and he was a spy protecting Konoha from shadows. He could have killed Kakashi with ease. Kakashi even states that Itachi could have killed him, and wondered why he didn't. Knowing this, it is easy to see the pieces that point to a picture of Itachi that is devastatingly powerful in combat. In his confrontation with Asuma and Kurenai when he enters Konoha, we see him send Kurenai flying a large distance with a simple kick. We also see him deflect chidori, and snap Sasuke's arm like a twig with a single hand. He also sends Sasuke flying clear down the hallway with another kick in this fight. He is obviously a powerful, versatile, unpredictable and underrated taijutsu user. We know that he can kill with a glance using Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu, and become nearly invincible with his Susanoo. We see him use exploding clones, (it's his one of his unpredictability in his fighting way approach) powerful genjutsu not linked to his sharingan, ( with a single point of a one of his fingers) and making hand seals at insane speeds. He kicks the shit out of Kakashi and he barely moves. Tobi also tells us himself that Itachi could have killed him if it weren't for carefully guarded secrets. Orochimaru beats Tsunade and Jiraiya without the use of his arms. Granted, Jiraiya was drugged, but it's still the point. Orochimaru couldn't use seals at all. Itachi obliterated Orochimaru effortlessly. Itachi has been a step above from the beginning. In order for him to keep his cover in Akatsuki, he had to avoid conflict without arousing suspicion, and the best way to do that was to present himself as being much less powerful than he actually is. The one thing we have been able to see in detail, is his intelligence and unpredictability in his fighting way approach. Itachi has been shown to be able to plan events years in advance, to account for possible flaws in his plans with powerful contingencies, and to use every possibility to his advantage. Shikamaru plans a few hours in advance, and we label him a tactical genius. If that is the case, what does one even call Itachi? The only real flaws that Itachi possesses is a smaller chakra reserves, and his own morality which keeps him from gaining Eternal Mangekyo. But even the chakra is arguable. The techniques we see him use are enormously powerful, and would therefor have a huge chakra cost. I'm not going to say he is the most powerful character in the anime, but I am going to say he is definitely very very high on that list, and probably higher than most people seem to give him credit for. Lastly but not least, Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. 🤷🏻♂️☯️✌️

Dont forget that jiraya took on multiple pain without any knowledge about their ability and almost won if it wasn't for the broken power of resurrection. Even then he figured out their secret and sent a message while dying. Itachi himself is on another level. Only the writers can decide who will win. So debating about it is pointless.
Remember Itachi visited the village when the village was destroyed. He definitely heard of it and came to check on Sasuke. Itachi also wanted to let Kakashi and Jiraya know about Akatsuki's ambitions. He told Kakashi and Jiraya about it indirectly. When kidnapping Naruto, Itachi wasted his time by fighting Sasuke, not running away with Naruto. Do you actually think there was any need for Itachi to fight Sasuke?? He could have put Sasuke under genjutsu and let him see his parents and the clan die 5000 times like Itachi did the first time. Also remeber Jiraya has seal led Amaterasu in the Manga. So basically Itachi and Jiraya are both on the same level. ITACHI and JIRAYA have a 50-50 chance of winning against each other. BOTH ARE LORD AND LEGENDARY SHINOBIS WHO DIED FOR THE LEAF VILLAGE
Itachi did the same thing when Guy pulled up. He KNOWS the hitters in his village and fucking around with them could mean death. Two things can be true at once. Itachi could be underselling himself to manipulate Kesume into avoiding a fight to protect Juriya (and Naruto). And Juriya could have also definitively been able to win in a fight vs Itachi and Kesume.
Fans like to think in absolute terms, but there are also things like the random chaos of battle to account for and the idea of Naruto dying in the crossfire and the 9-tails getting released that should be factored into the calculus being done here.
Personally I don't think Itachi was lying, and truly believed Juriya would most likely win that fight, but also knew it was MUCH more complicated of a situation than a simple power level comparison that fans want to boil it down too.
