  • Earl Russell served as a tail gunner on a modified B-24 Liberator out of Harrington, England as part of Operation Carpetbagger. The Carpetbaggers secretly dropped supplies and Office of Strategic Services (OSS) (forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)) agents behind enemy lines in France under the cover of darkness during World War II.

My grandfather Al Hunter was the pilot of Slick Chick II. Thanks for posting this, it's great to hear other people who were there tell their stories.

My Grandpa, Arthur Bogusz, was stationed in Harrington. He was the top turret gunner and mechanic of the Brer Rabbit crew. The plane was called the Brer Rabbit after the pilot Clinton Rabbit. So now you know who flew the plane before you.

Writeups on all these missions the OSS did are available. I remember looking them up on the cia site over 10 years ago. The cia has changed the site now and I have not been successful in finding the writeups.
