Saltatio Mortis is a German Medieval Metal Band. They're also gamers and have a bunch of game inspired Songs like this one (Assassins Creed Valhalla), The Dragonborn comes (Skyrim) and Pray to the Hunter (Elder Scrolls online). If you like Viking inspired songs and history, you also have to watch the German/Danish/Swedish band Heilung. Anything from their LIFA concert but also their latest son Anoana - just epic.

Don't forget Corvus Corax! Great band doing only medieval or old songs with instruments that are inspired by designs of those times.

The Singer Alea learn Old Islandic with Teachers for this Song

Language is Icelandic, chosen partly because it is closest to Old Norse. With it's physical isolation it has had the least outside influences. You definitely need to checkout Heilung. Amplified History based on pre Viking stories and archeological artifacts. Their live shows are called rituals.

The video is showing a holmgang. It was a form of combat used to settle disputes in Medievel Scandinavia. After a challenge the combatants would meet on an island and fight. Whoever drew first blood won.

I know the whole genetic/epigenetic memory thing is purely science fiction and all, but I swear every time I hear any version of this song, but especially this video with its scenery, something inside me just feels at home.

oh if you want vikings... Heilung, Amon Amarth and Brothers of Metal are all about Norse Mythology and Viking culture.
Also Eluveitie is more about Celtic culture but their music is brilliant too.

Try the songs Yggdrasill and Hugin & Munin from Corvus Corax. Or their song Sverker. Their metal versions are great as well.

Saltatio Mortis has 2 bagpipe players and that other instrument you saw that confused you is called a hurdy gurdy. It's a kind of old school crank accordion.

I once knew a modern Norse pagan woman online. She told me keeping their word is a very big deal. They don't give their word easily, but neither will they break it.

I think its kinda a mix from celtic, norse and germanic tribes :o I mean it all is somewhat connected especially the germanic and norse when it comes to gods. Different elements, but this seems to be northern german/danish region judging by the style. Definitely a cool video

No, it isn't. It is a "holmgang" - a ritual used to settle disputes within a clan. Usually, the fighter who first drew blood won the argument, which then was deemed settled. Here, it's a draw. :)

1:28 The verses are in Norse. Closest modern equivalents are Icelandic and the Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish)
