The origin of the lyrics comes from Icelandic myth and legend from Egil’s saga. Apparently it’s the words that his mother told him as a young boy when he was doubting himself and whether he would ever amount to anything.
The band chose to sing the chorus in English, but the singer Alea learned the verses in Icelandic for authenticity, though the band themselves are German. Their name is pronounced Sal - tat - zee - oh , More - Tis. Alea is also a cosplayer and some cast members in the video are apparently his fellow cosplayers, the main characters that he and the woman play are a direct reference to the Assassins Creed : Valhalla game in which the song was featured and it’s also been used in the tv show ‘Vikings’.
Other tracks of theirs to check out :
    Löwenherz (Official video)
    Eulenspiegel (live at Wacken 2017)
    Loki (Official lyric video) 🤘🏻🙂

Saltatio Mortis (short: SaMo) are basically a folk rock/metal/punk (depends on the song. Really lol) act that got big at German renaissance fairs. We got this one here that is kinda a traveling one. Not exactly but it takes place at different weekends in different cities from about spring to autumn usually. Anyway. They have achieved four first places in the German album charts with their last albums so far. I really recommend checking more out by them. Even if it is in German usually. This song wasn't an original song. It's from the Egil's Saga afaik and was used on Vikings as well if I remember it right. Barely watched that show so far so idk. Not this version obviously lol
I recommend checking out: "Mittelfinger Richtung Zukunft" (Flip the bird towards the future/lit.: middle finger (in the) direction (of the) future), "Spielmannsschwur" (there is a live version from Wacken 2017 on the band's channel; trans.: Vow of the Minstrel (as in the one from the middle ages not the minstrel show with blackface and everything..)), "Wachstum über alles" (Growth above everything (here: economic growth. It's one of their more political songs)), "Wo sind die Clowns" (Where are the clowns), "Dorn im Ohr" (Thorn in the Ear (based on the saying "Thorn in the flesh")), "Brot und Spiele" (Bread and Games). I just went with some of those I know have videos on their channel because you might run into issues with German copyright law and get your video blocked if you decide to do any of these^^ Afaik you can contact the band and they will help getting it unblocked if it's a video from their own channel.
Glad you liked this one though^^ They deserve more love imo but I've been a fan for.. idk.. 10 years or so. So of course I think that. They are also such a fun live band because the energy is one of the best I got to experience at concerts. And the guys still take their time talking to fans afterwards which at a 3k people concert takes a while and a lot of energy I bet lol

BTW, this is more Vikings than Game of thrones, it's even officially inspired by the awesome game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla.

This was actually a way they resolve a dispute back then, a fight until someone drew blood . It is or rather was called holmgang (hólmganga in Old Norse and modern Icelandic, holmgång in Swedish, holmgang in Danish and Norwegian bokmål and nynorsk)

Damn! I didn't know them and I'll definitively check them out, they sound great! Also it was about time someone made a metal version of this song, I'm versatile when it comes to music so I dig the "original" folk tune as well, but yeah...metal! (Don't bother with Game of Thrones)(the fandom is pissed af because of the final season)(me included)(save yourself an heartbreak).

the not english parts of this song are in icelandic language, in our days spoken or understood by mabe only 400.000 people on the whole planet.
Even Swedish, danish, norway or finnish guys have problems understanding it.
    This is VIKING music !

This song seems like an appreciation to the old Germanic heroes. No Germanic would ever identify with national socialists (socialists/communists/Marxists), because socialists have always opposed the age-old Germanic spirit of freedom.

There's no way a skinny chick like that would beat an athletic male like Alea. My guess is that either Alea struck first blood and won or he let her strike first blood and win.

    • @marge2548

      @@aaronbarlow4376 I am actually not quite sure whether that‘s a given… 😉
If I get the „Holmgang“ correctly, the winner is who lands the first strike and draws blood.
After that, the fight is over.
Having practiced Kendo (a modernised form of Japanese swordfighting) myself for some time, I learnt that sheer physical power is not everything when it comes to this.
(Actually Kendo aims for one decent strike also, rather than for elaborate sequels of attack/defense.)
A fighter that is slender in built, but quick and decisive while attacking, might well “outrun” their physically stronger opponent and win under these circumstances.
And I am not joking. I have seen it several times. The best fighters in our teams were not the strongest ones but those who scored most quickly - male or female.
