1:19 1.What is Beacon versus an iBeacon?
An iBeacon has one simple purpose in life, and that is to send out a signal and say I am here. It's completely unaware of any mobile devices that are around it.

Apple did come out originally with the iBeacon protocol however a beacon is the physical device with the antenna and the Bluetooth low energy stack that can send out packets and is not just an Apple product.

iBeacons are like a lighthouse. They send out a signal and are unaware of themselves and any other devices that are around them.
4:41 4. Do iBeacons Steal your data?
An iBeacon is not capable of seeing any other devices around itself. They can't see devices, therefore they don't connect to them. They don't steal any data off the device.
5:45 5. Can iBeacons can determine distance?
iBeacons can use received signal strength which is the line of sight from the device's Bluetooth antenna to the beacon. We recommend multiple iBeacons and adjusting your antenna power to suit the use case.

Different iBeacons that you can use for various types of deployments. There are few things that you're going to need to consider and we analyse the advantages and disadvantages of them.

What are your thoughts on the Chinese beacons? Are they reliable? i just find that some beacons producers are a little expensive when looking to implement at scale.
Which make/model & software is best for easily setting up an in-pocket advertising beacon with NO monthly fee?
you said you can target what kind of coupons you provide to a particular customer based off their behaviour (eg: dwell in a certain isle). What confuses me is, how could you target those coupons to a particular customer without even knowing who they are? 4th point emphasizes that the beacon does not steal your data. So how do you know who exactly dwelled in that particular isle?
I am currently making a project which includes beacons. Can a beacon output data which is currently being collected from sensors in real time? for example, if i have a person hooked up to an accelerometer to detect motion and a heart rate monitor and the motion has stopped. Can the beacon output information like the levels of motion and the heart rate? Also are beacons configured (so what they output and how often they output it) purely from a self created app? TIA
what exactly is the data sent in the signal trasmitted by the beacon .. I intend to use it in indoor nav app and I need to know how would I position the user based on those signals ?? is it only the signal strength or what exactly ??

That's not necessary for beacons, since you only getting a signal information to try to estimate your location.

Of course the mobile device should be on :p
About the app, this can work in the background or sometimes even if the app is killed. But then again. this completely depends on the app.
I think you need to have an app which listens to particular beacon ID and get notified from the beacon.

I am curious as to why you would want to do this? If you were able to turn a phone into a beacon (which I am pretty sure you could create an app to do so), the phone would most likely be moving. Are you wanting it for some type of asset tracking function, versus a beacon? Remember, beacons are "fixed" to accomplish many types of actions (Point of interest, way finding, product info, proximity locations, etc.).

This is entirely based on signal strength. Beacon signals do get affected by water, and humans are 70% water

No.....You may create a URL that you want to be broadcasted using software that is compatible to the specs of the hardware.

I have a video, and I want to transfer that to all the customers walking in my shop. Is it possible for the beacon to do it?
Beacons cannot "transfer" a video. If you use Eddystone, it can broadcast an URL. It completely depends on the customer to tap and open this.
But if you have a dedicated app, then its possible for the video to automatically pop-up provided the customers have their Bluetooth and data on
