About 9:00 the announcer correctly states the importance of non calls. Some stats guy with way too much free time should invent the stat for " non calls " and the ref that gets too many should be marked down by the league office the same way a ref that makes too many bad ones does.

ok, I know it's a year later, but I have to say this. I am a new hockey fan, just started watching a couple months ago, but I am a lifelong football fan. I know hockey helmets are totally different and (seem to at least) come off much easier than football helmets, but I watched that replay and my mind immediately went to football and I'm yelling "personal foul!" in my mind because in football grabbing and tugging on the facemask is a big no no lol
in bantam 'AA' i played for an all First Nation hockey team. when we were playing against Copper Cliff at a tournament in Sudbury some players on their bench would do Native American war cry sounds. they did it about 10 times throughout the game and were never penalized for it. when my coach complained about it to the ref he said he didn't know who to penalize because he didn't know who did it. i'm guessing that ref didn't know what a bench minor was or he simply just didn't give a fuck. we ended up beating them the second time around in the semi-finals. so, it all worked out
p.s. they were told by the tournament organizers and NOAH representatives not to do what they did in the first game or else their team will be fined and that they'll suspend any player who does it for the rest of the season

I've always wondered how much "abuse of officials" is tolerated regarding language. Like they're probably cool with "are you blind? His fuckin stick was right there!" While "oh you saw his stick. Fuck you!" probably gets you some trouble. Maybe just depends on the ref. I once had a real Jesusy boss who said he couldn't watch the Die Hard movies because of all the cussing. Oddly he didn't say anything about all the murder though lol.

Imagine having a job where people constantly are upset at you for their shortcomings. Like you just try to do your job and make sure people play fair and some big guy charges at you screaming.
I don't know about hockey, but in baseball the general rule is that yelling about the call is tolerated for a while, but insulting the ump personally means you're gone.
When you get there after the whistle is blown and refs are in there already, that's gonna be considered unprovoked because you had your chance to get in his face, you just weren't faster than the refs
Some of these unsportsmanlike penalties seem unclear, but it could be something said. The rulebook should have something to distinguish this for box score and audience clarity, so the ref can say "Unsportsmanlike Verbal" or such.
