In the uk insurance is a very simple process although a very expensive one.
A quote is given based on the value of the vehicle and risk factor aka 18 year old with a race car or a professional married man with responsibilities.
There is a excess charge, for example if there is damage that can be repaired, the insurance company will cover the cost of repairs but you will also pay the excess charge, This could be £100, £200, £250, what ever was set at the beginning of the accepted quote.
If the car is a write off aka unrepairable then the full current value after inspection is given to the person who owns and insured the car.
Off Note: Last but not least if you crash your car into the back of another car for what ever reason...you are at fault, no questions. Always keep a distance.
