FPS Gamer plays Fortnite for the first time (part 2)

- I recently played Fortnite for the first time, ever! As someone who predominantly plays first person shooters and action adventure games, that are either somewhat realistic or full on fantasy, clips from this game just never seemed to speak to me, so I never got around to trying it. I had no idea what I was in for!
The first time I played, I won my first 3 matches in a row. The second time I played . . . this happened . . .
I'd love to hear your suggestions for other games I should try! Or any feedback in general.
Also, please remember that liking and subscribing is free, and that I'll cry myself to sleep tonight if you don't.
Learning Fortnite from scratch with no instructions. The struggle is real. As someone who recently went through the same it is fun to watch. I feel seen. Dig your vibe. Funny stuff. I had to watch a lot of TH-cam videos to learn. Highly recommend turning on visual audio (shows footsteps and gunfire in you HUD), helps a lot. One of many settings that should be on by default.
Yeah he neeeeds visual audio, best tip anyone could give
Even pro players use that@@shanebreezy4453
Thank you, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you could relate! It is so weird that visual audio isn't on automatically. It's also kinda hard to find if you don't know what to look for
Just finally turned it on. I'm still getting used to it but I can see how it would really help
That's good to know! Just finally turned it on
As an og player, seeing people learn this game is fun to watch, seeing them go through what we went through..
we did kinda have to build for.. a long time.
I'm glad you liked it! I'm slowly trying to catch up to you OGs
@@DrewGoodHelpwith keyboard and mouse you grab your gun and drag it to what ever slot
Yea u are a decent player for a beginner. I am a keyboard and mouse/controller player and I went through the same hard ships. I t is very entertaining though.
“They did along time ago and now I’m here with anxiety” killed me 😂
Haha. I hate my fish ancestors
You can bind certain weapon types to certain slots! You’ll find it in the gameplay settings!
you can????
@@vk8a8yes
yeah@@vk8a8
This was such a huge help, thank you!
@@vk8a8the game keeps telling me this when I go to settings and sometimes during games. So yes.
Big tip! Turn on 'Visual Audio'. it will create an invisible circle in your screen that pretty much works as a radar. If you see footprints below the screen you know that someone walks behind you, same as left, right and up of course.
Also shots, healing, gliding etc will all be shown as long as you're near enough (and with near it's like 260 meters and you'll see it)
"OH it's Solid Snake, how you gonna see him?" LMAOOO
About the NPCs, there are a few different types:
1)Regular NPCs that you can talk to. You can buy items with gold you get around the map from them, and even hire a few to be your teammate. When you are close to them they show up on the map as a little speech bubble with three dots in it. Each hireable NPC has something different that they do. Some drop you ammo, some throw grenades, some scan the area for you periodically, some throw Shield heels on you every once in awhile. When you are fighting someone else and you see that they have someone with them that has a red exclamation point over their head, that is an npc. Focus on killing a player first and the npc will die when they die.
2) Bosses. When you first load in to the battle bus, they show up as a gold symbol on the map. They will always be at the same locations. They have way more Health than anyone else in the game. If you kill them, you get a medallion. If youre holding one, it will guide you to a vault that you can open that has good loot and a weapon mod station. They also drop a mythic weapon when you kill them (best weapons in the game and theres only one.) The medallion also helps you heal your Shield. The more medallions you have the higher your Shield will heal. The downside to having a medallion is it shows your general location on the map to other players and the more medallions you have the circle gets smaller aka more accurate. I usually use it to open the vault and then drop it somewhere and you can also use it as bait. I also forgot to mention that the vaults have gold in them that you can collect to use for buying things around the map like things from vending machines or npcs. The max gold you can have is 5000. Also, the only weapons you cannot mod are Mythic weapons.
3) guards will spawn around the bosses.
4) there are towers that will spawn on the map and a little bit into the game three guards will spawn near them. If you kill them you can get a key card. Take the key card back to the Tower and you'll get Storm Prediction AKA it will show you where the next Circle will be and no one else can see this unless they also have the storm forecast. Only two to three spawn the whole entire game so this can be highly helpful.
Thank you so much for taking the time for this comment. I saw this when you posted it and it helped a lot! There's just so much to learn in this game!
@@DrewGoodHelpyou can assign weapoms in settings
@DrewGoodHelp np, my whole family has been enjoying watching your progress. ☺
This really brought me back🥹. I started playing in chapter 3. Oh, the pain, but also the triumph, it was to learn Fortnite. Keep at it ! You'll be great in no time !
Thanks, I appreciate the support! How long ago was chapter 3? I think I'm finally getting better . . . very slowly
@DrewGoodHelp it was December of 2021! I started playing on my switch 😅 zero build didn't even exist yet. Quickly moved to Xbox and got a controller with paddles to build better . Chapter 4 my husband bought me a PC and everything changed! Learning mouse and key after being a controller player my whole life was so hard! But I can't imagine not playing kbm now. It's made me such a great player! I only play zero build now.
Ya mean Chapter 2 Season 3? Or Chapter 1?
@@fredbread2112 chapter 3 season 1.
Same bro!!! I also started in Chapter 3 season 1!!! I immediately got the battle pass and loved the game :) Now I main Omega Knight (from Ch3 S2)
I’m a massive fortnite fan and I’m Ngl watching you start from scratch and learn the game is fun to watch, keep the videos coming 👍
Thanks, I'm glad you liked these! I've got more coming out today!
I love your vibe and how much effort you're putting into getting used to a comparatively weird game where realism is optional lmao
Im hooked!
Just subbed because of this series!!
Thank you for the support! I'll keep them coming!
Bro, these videos are suuuuper entertaining. It's nice seeing someone new who isn't deathly afraid to follow people out of the bus for quick fights. That is a great way to get practice in. That's only half the battle though. Learning how to rotate into new zones is just as important if not more so. In the smaller zones, I focus on 3rd partying if I can and I rotate early to high points in zone with lots of cover. Keep it up! 🤘
1:20 yes you can set the weapons to any slot in settings, recommend going through the settings
Up
Thanks! I finally go this sorted out. There are soooo many settings
I kind of love watching someone start this game brand new (I just got recommended your videos).
Fortunately you're not against many 12-18 year olds, as most who are have grinded Fortnite for 2-3 years and become skilled as heck. I wish I could start again like you man, it's way more fun than playing against the newer players that rule lobbies.
Enjoy it as much as you can while you can, and good luck
I enjoy that there are some older players as well. I find it less competitive then other fps games in terms that more people are there to have fun and to get better, not just get angry all the time.
@@emilylewis5373 Then you haven't experienced the superhero skins enough, rip
I just started playing FPS after being a Fortnite player since season 1. This is good content and refreshing because I’m going through the same thing with mw3 and val
I'm sure somebody has already told you that you CAN bind weapon types to specific slots. It's also worth noting that the default controls for building, editing, and even "use" are not great. Most pros have "use" bound to scroll wheel because it allows for easy spamming. You should look at some pros' keybinds to see where you might want to rebind building/editing keys. There's a nifty trick called "scroll-wheel reset" that makes it quick/easy to reset edited building pieces, effectively turning building/editing into a combat technique. It's worth trying out those mechanics now, because, once you get past the initial AI and noob opponents, building becomes necessary to defending/positioning yourself.
I love this journey that you're on! so entertaining! Keep it up!
the best thing that helped me learn was turning the visualize audio in my settings. it allows you to know which direction other players are running or shooting when you can’t see them through a structure
Nobody:
Drew: That’s a scary looking Christmas tree
As someone who has been playing the game since launch this is a fun watch seeing people come into an almost 7 year old game
I miss watching new players seems hard to find them now.
Ggs lol the amount of times ive died in the storm that close to the edge.
Have an amazing week, thanks for the laughs an good vibes
Not going to lie. This is very enjoyable to watch.
I felt the same when starting. I’m still very new. Been playing for a couple months. Having fun. I come from a FPS background. Unreal quake, doom, Apex. You get better. Btw, is that a TLoU tattoo? Epic.
That's awesome, keep it up! It's such a fun game. Yeah, it's loosely based on TLoU! Thank you!
This is some of the most entertaining content I have seen related to Fortnite. Keep up the Great Work!
Also turn on visual audio It helps a ton.
A good tip is to turn on visual sound effects it’ll show you how close people are/which direction and same which chests and other things like vehicles etc 👍
Fortnite should take notes and realize that their game has such an insanely steep learning curve that it deters new players from trying it...
Well, that is why you start playing against bots.
Drew won his first three games and I think he had 14-15 kills in one of them.
I think it took me ~20 games or so to get my first kill back when I started in C1S3.
@@giuseppemontego8479 What I'm saying is that Fortnite need more of a battle royale tutorial explaining the building, weapons, items, NPCs, etc. for new players.
@@JustinDaniels yeah...that is fair. I recall not having any idea what the different colors of the guns meant at the beginning. Had to watch YT vids to learn the basics. This guy is *way* ahead of where I was because of his COD experience.
I like your vids on Fortnight! On your main screen. You need to click on your character top right. Then go to the gear on bottom left of that section. This will be your settings. You can adjust most everything in the game. You can set slots for your weapons/Heals. Once you access this area, I know you can figure it out. I will subscribe to you and watch you improve and become more comfortable. Looking for people to fight you need to drop quickly off the bus or go to locations where there are medallions.
Thank you! This comment really was a huge help!
Let's be honest, if your 1st few matches were against 12yo, you would've lost those lol these tablet raised kids are different these days..
Haha that is an excellent point
Btw idk if you know this but building is basically taking cover or getting high ground for better shots. Keep it going man!
Now, your getting the real feel of fortnite, I recognize the face I get when I play...lol
I feel so lucky friends taught me how to play in duo/trio/squad, so I had someone to constantly ask 'wtf is this???' before I started playing solo games
Got to find a friend, bro!
Don’t underestimate the kids! Lol
they are good!
I watched part 1 and here i am ur hilarious 1 new subscriber
You camped that guy for 15 mins and then died to him, lol that was so funny 😂😂
It was soooo frustrating haha
@@DrewGoodHelp you're getting better though, I saw your latest video yesterday, hell yea!
I'm loving watch your journey
The game paired you with AI the first few games not 12 year olds...12 year olds go crazy in this game LOL
haha that's a fair point
My man is going to LOVE Tilted Towers… there’s like 15% of the people
I don't know if anybody has said this yet but there are settings to assign weapons to automatically go to certain slots. That said if you go to pick up two shotguns the second shotgun will move to whatever slot is empty. It's more of a preference setting.
Yes you can i play with controller and there it is on the left the four buttons from which you have to press the top one and then you can click on one weapon and then click on another one to switch them
1:32 yes you can switch your weapons to a different slot, you can go on the inventory tab in game or you can change preferred item slots in setting
Those quests are fun to do. I accidentally hit tear 3 times with kolmbo . 😂
Lets go!!!
Subbed cups of this amazing series
Thank you! I appreciate the support!!!
A little tip, in your sound settings, look for, visualize sound effects, they'll show you things happening in the middle of your screen when something happens that has sound like, enemy walking, shooting, healing ect. And the Npcs have mythical weapons that are very powerful, but you need to sacrifice some of your ammo to kill them
I love the mythical weapons!! I can't believe I didn't realize this sooner
Press alt or tab to rearrange your gun/med slots. Theres a designated setting were you could assign slots to specific weapon types/meds
1:24 yes you can Assign weapons, You just need to go in your settings
Press tab to go into inventory and switch items around(you can move whilst in inventory to).
Normally a sniper has sniper glint unless you change the scope, which you can do at a mod bench.
Play creative maps to get practice, It is very helpful.
Also, turn on visual sound cues. it is very helpful in noticing things that you might not pick up otherwise.
Dropping in places where lots of people go is not generally a good thing, because the more people, the higher chance of getting killed.
Thanks for all the tips! I finally figured out the mod bench and visual sound. I haven't tried any other maps yet though
It's good that u r a new player and u r playing build mode.
From my experience, you actually want to AVOID clumps at the start so you can stock up on supplies.
Also see you switched to Zero Build. Good call there.
I’m sure people have already said this but yes you can assign weapons to a certain slot. Also I would turn on visual audio in the settings, it helps in the beginning. If you want a lot of people to fight, go to the places with a lot of buildings.
Thanks for the tips, these were really helpful! My go to drop spots are busy areas now because I get bored . . . fast lol
I love your content
Subscribed 😊
Have a good look through the settings, there's actually so many settings that make things easier ie auto pick up, auto open doors, assign weapon slots
You should turn on visual sound effects. A lot of professional players (including me) have it on and basically what it does is it just puts visuals on screen telling you where someone is doing something or anything that could make sound happens. I don’t really want to explain how so just look in setting and you’ll find it eventually 😂
Keep practicing Sir, you'll get there!
Thank you!!
If you press tab you will be able to place your inventory with your mouse
Thanks for the tip! I finally figured that out and it makes a huge difference
You should try no build mode. Once you advance in regular battle royale, the people build INSANELY. They will box you, open a window and pump you in the face. 😂 My friends and I quit playing builds a long time ago.
dude you're a riot - fish don't typically do that, they use to, but now I'm here... with anxiety. 😆
Hahaha thanks!
11:57 hes laughing and acting like he won for real, but he missed all of his sniping shots 😂
You can go into your inventory to switch around slots, but there are also settings somewhere to auto assign them
Thanks for the tip! I just finally did this and it's made a big difference!
To assign weapons to specific slots:
Settings > Game > Combat > Preferred Item Slots > ‘Configure’
From there, you’ll be able to configure how you like!
-
A quick helpful tip is audio visualization. It’ll help in knowing exactly where your opponents are:
Settings > Audio > Sound > Visualize Sound Effects
1:25
Thanks for the tips! These 2 settings have made a big difference!
OK I've just commented on your previous video but I see you found the fun part 😂😂😂
If you learned a few builds… just knowing how to use ramps. Putting out a single wall more reflexively when someone invades your space. And you also played more safe tactically. You seem to enjoy the kills so you go for them, without anticipating the other players’ movements. You will get better and be someone who gets really high kill counts and wins some, high KTD. But if you want to win, you pick your drops a little better, considering probable rotation towards the middle. Holding the middle generally requires more building skill. Finding a few good routes in and you could play more sniper dominate the way you are best, you have a real advantage making every fight at 100m or more (why you anticipate how people will be travelling in, and are being more cautious and aware of everything around you.)
1:25 Yes you can actually do that :) Should be in the settings. There is an unwritten rule that AR is 1, Shotgun is 2, MP is 3 and heal or other iteams are 4 and 5 ;)
That makes sense! Finally found the setting. Ar in 1 and shotgun in 2 is definitely the way to go
I am not sure if you have a future video in reload mode. But it is the original small island.
TIp: These barrels you keep walking past give you shield if you break them and only the ones that say slurp if you see a slurp truck break it to get max shield 5:51 also it might seem like people are teleporting they are not they are just using the mythic invisibility that was in the solid snake update
That makes a lot of sense about the invisibility. I was so confused! Thanks for the tips on the barrels and truck!
You can swap your weapon slots around in your inventory and can also asign certain weapons to standart spots in the settings (example: ARs in slot 1 , shotguns slot 2 etc.)
Thanks for the tip! Finally did this and it makes a huge difference
1) Yes, you can assign weapons and even have it auto sort to specific spots
2) No, once you are a certain height on the drop you can't turn it off from auto opening
3) Yes, people get to know the map pretty early off and personally I think it's the right size
- this was fun to watch! 👍👍😊😊
Following birds XD, flying with them to the warm south
Just another tip, if someone shoots at you, try building so you could heal or box up without getting shot at :))
But if your playing zero build you may have to hide instead
A tip is to mark on the map while in Lobby where you want to land, then jump from the bus when you're around 900 meters away, aim down while in air pressing W to fall faster and you should hit the ground at your target pretty good, also falling over water makes you fall further than if you're over a mountain, it's how the game "calculates" how long you can fall without hitting the ground and higher elevation of course makes you use umbrella sooner.
Might be obvious, but the right shoulder advantage is huge so if you push people make sure they're never on your left. Also I didn't know about weak points for the first year of me playing. When hitting things with your pickaxe, aim for the circle that pops up, it helps a lot. 👍
if you press tab while in a match, it shows you your inventory. if you click and drag a weapon or item in your inventory you can move it to a certain spot. the npcs are protecting what you would call a boss, which when defeated drops a medallion. medallions auto heal you to a certain point. and the more medallions you have, the faster you auto heal and more health it gives you making it harder for you to die to players. there is still medallions in the new season but i dont think they all heal you
it gives me ptsd when i see u not look at the map and go into the zone
If you spend time in the settings you can bind your buttons and if you open your inventory you can put items in the slot you favour them in
Also the npc’s wither let you use bars to hire them if they have a person + logo or sometimes they just stand there and you can challenge them for the guns they give you a preview of others are hostile and there’s a boss or minions the bosses drop keycards or medallions which give you health or movement benefits or they drop a keycard to a vault where you can collect more bars with your pickaxe and open chests with possibly better loot than what’s elsewhere
Btw i recommend exploring your settings just read what everything does it gives descriptions and in the settings you can find what the binds are
😂😂 8:14 scared the poor dog 🐕😭😂😂🤣🤣
pick a spot and land on it. get a weapon! get builds, get shield, get ready for a fight!
You can assign weapons to certain slots, its called configure item slots in settings
Thanks for the tip! I love that that's a setting
9:04 people definitely memorize the map because i have
That's impressive!
@@DrewGoodHelpyeah 😅
Yay this is video 2 of 4 now. Watching you run past heals like the barrels you can smash with your pickaxe or having flowberry juice in your inventory and not using it when you need shield reminds me of how much you DONT know when you first start playing fn. You're doing better than I did. Hope you find that you can AUTO sort your guns in your settings! (before playing a match) or during a match you can sort your inventory and drop items in game. Im on controller and its dpad up. Not sure what it is for kb&m, you'd have to check your keybinds in your settings. Yes players are teleporting around the map. Right now in THIS game you played: porta-potties, the TMNT manholes. Plus that butterfly you noticed is a rift up to loot island. Ways to teleport around the island come & go but the rift butterfly will always be one way to get up to loot island. Mobility items are things Im hoping you figure out in the next two videos. Interesting being on this journey with you!
You have the best, most amazing humor. I love it
Thank you so much!!
You can set key binds in the gameplay settings, you can make interact f and if you want to make 2 the button for shotgun you can in settings.
Thanks for the tip! I finally got used to using E but getting the weapons sorted so I know where they are made a big difference
I'd suggest you to go into settings and change the pickaxe keybind to 'e' and everything else to 'f' since that's how it is in most other games
Somebody needs to explain the importance of knowing the various heals, so he actually uses them, cause you always want max shield as soon as possible. Also go to settings and set your keybinds how you prefer them. You can also put your items in preferred slots under settings
I think this solidifies my argument that the Reaper Sniper is a no skill item, as in it takes absolutely no skill or prior training to use.
The first time you play, you are in a lobbie with Epic Games smart ai that can imitate a real player. The more you play and level up, the more expirienced you are. If you are at level 70, then you will be put with way more real players than Epics ai. Hope it helped.
There is a setting called visual sound effects its where the colorblind mode and stuff is it will put the sounds of gunshots footsteps chests and a bunch of other stuff on the screen in the direction that that sound came from and the setting for the proffered slots is in the keybinds
Also the height at which you deploy the glider depends on the level of the ground it will show you right next to the mini map
Thank you, this was a big help!
You should enable visual audio. It helps a lot!
Bro you gotta drink that flow berry fizz for shield and mobility lol
There is a setting to preset load out now discovered it myself just the other day no clue how long it has actually been around
Thanks for letting me know. I had no idea!
the sewer lid and the porta potties have tunnels that take you a small distances away
It took a lot of time but I've memorized the entire map
Two things: harvest the barrels. And ADS to avoid visuals footsteps on enemy radar. Even crouching will make visual audio. See TobyWanShinobi test vids on visual audio distances.
yes you can assign weapons mid game by pressing up on your D pad I think? unless your on keyboard? in which case you can also set key binds.
What do you think about hades skin?
Also very important to shield up before fights, 7:30 youre just running around with shield in your inventory
Yeahhh, I don't know why I was forgetting to do this so much!
Landing in a bush will prevent all fall damage.
I'm going to have to try this
Dude, this shit's hilarious! If you need a Fortnite guide hit me up, especially now you're getting real players rather than AI!!!😂
Haha thank you! I'm glad you liked it. We should definitely play some time. I'm going to pick a day and play with whoever wants to join
Damn as someone that's played for years now I gotta say if ya knew the mechanics and the meta behind the game you would be a top player with your aim skill 100%
With default keybinds press i then you can select a weapon and switch them with another and you can drop them if you pull them to the center
Thanks! This helped a lot. That was driving me crazy
you should turn on your "visual audio" settings. most players have it active and you'll be able to "see" footsteps of close players and gunfire direction more obviously. - and honestly you should be playing Zero Build and turn on RANKED.
Thanks for the tip! I'm playing zero build now and I'm going to try ranked soon in a future video!
