- For a while now, during my live streams, people have been asking me to react to the storyline of Fortnite and, well, I didn't know fort even had a storyline! I watch a great vid from top5gaming that goes over chapters 1-4 which I believe brings me up to date with when I started playing. This was a wild, wild, confusing, wild ride.

The reason this all seemed so overwhelming is they frsmed this recap in chronological order.
In reality, there was very little to piece together until Chapter 2. There was no story whatsoever during the first 2 Seasons of Chapter 1.
Then in Season 3, the meteor crashes into Dusty Depot (one of the most popular POIs at the time).
Season 4 gave us our first theme (superheroes) where a superhero movie was being filmed on the Island. We didn't know who the Seven or I.O. were, all we knew was that a mysterious person exited the meteor and flew a rocket, creating rifts. It gave us our first collab event featuring Thanos, because that's when Infinity War hit theaters.
Season 5 the rifts made a cube that the community called "Kevin." Kevin melted into Loot Lake (another popular POI).
Season 6 was the Halloween season where Kevin lifted the island above Loot Lake, snd we got zombies. The Island exploded and we got the Butterfly event.
Season 7 was our Winter/Christmas season, which is when the glacier hit the Idland, and the Ice King gave us a blizzard... with zombies. It was slso when Creative Mode first started.
Season 8 gave us the Volcano and Pirates. It was also the very first time we even see the Zero Point. And at this point, we the players knew absolutely nothing about it.
It also had a collab event with Avengers Endgame. The scene of Thor and his friends playing Fortnite was a Season 8 gameplay clip.
Season 9 had a futuristic theme, and it gave us the Monster vs Mech event.
And Season X (10) was the end of Chapter 1. This was the very first time we hear about "The Seven" and "The Loop."
TL;DR, Fortnite's story was fed to us with little breadcrumbs. Most of our big lore drops came from Batman and Marvel comics, and more narrative driven events during Chapters 2 and 3. Most of Chapter 1's story was random ev3nts with no context to piece most of it together. There were more theories thsn answers.
This video used later lore drops to make sense of everything going on.
11:52 Chapter 1 (aka OG Fortnite) essentially set up the game and how it works. Originally there were no reboot vans, vehicles, rifts, or sprinting/mantling (the new movements were released with the zero build game mode) as well as some other stuff I’m sure, it was a very simple game back then.
There was only solos and squads game modes with duos and trios coming later in the chapter. Friendly fire was also on for a bit but that was removed pretty quickly, especially considering there was no rebooting at the time.
The map also changed a lot throughout the first chapter but kept the same base shape and structure. Then each new season brought a new map and heaps of new mechanics and items (e.g chapter 2 brought in swimming and fishing). I didn’t play very much after then but that’s the gist of it, I’m sure I’ve missed stuff so hopefully people can help out/add stuff in the replies.

With that you'd basically get the full picture of the lore up to the most recent update. It'd be really cool if you delved into the story of chapter 5.
Yeah he is pretty good but he is wrong about The Wanderer's identity.

Like how you start a match and storm closes and last player wins and next match starts and whole process repeates again, same storm closes again and so on. Thats called 'loop' in the story. Thats how the order keeps eveyone at bay under them and tried to use zero point orbs energy for themselves. To free this loop and zero point, the seven tries everytime, and each time something messes up and gives us (real players) new season . Top 5 gaming knows this story by piecing everything (zero point comics, quests, quest voice notes, talking to NPC's ,etc)

The lore started very slow at first. We had to figure most of this out from the updates/small changes around the map. At some point, the characters realized they were in a never ending loop and began working on escaping somehow. The loop is the center of the omniverse (all multiverses) and that is how you explain every IP known to man becoming a part of the loop.
Omg finnally! I and many others have been asking for Drew to make this video. I really want to see his reaction to all the lore, since he started in chapter 5 and there isnt that much storyline rn, but the actual fortnite story is really interesting. I am so happy that he made it and I cant wait to watch it when I come home. 😁

There were tanks in the game and there was also the battlebus that you can drive in, in this chapter and season, although without emp but otherwise the same. And there were also metal airships. However, it was unfortunate timing that chapter 3 came out at the same time as when Russia invaded Ukraine, so in that connection Epic collected money to support Ukraine, so all they earned from the item shop was used there.
Drew you definitely need to watch all the live events. Also Sypher has a video about the history of Fortnite that is only about 20 mins long. It covers Fortnite becoming the most popular game in the world plus weapons, battle passes etc from past seasons. Luv the video btw!! Your reactions to things are priceless!! 😄

Drew you should watch all battle pass trailers, crossover trailers and live events to get yourself familiar with the game and its past and also so you can see all the cool events
For the people who've been playing since Chapter 1 season 1 it's indeed easier to follow this story line as we played through all these POI's and different maps (a chapter is a map, basically) Like Gotham city used to be a POI, same goes for Spiderman's city. As for the Marvel ones in the beginning of the video like Thor and Tony Stark, they used to be Battle Pass skins. Fun fact: between Chapter 1 en Chapter 2, when everything got sucked in to the black hole thingy. You couldn't play Fortnite for a couple of days, when you logged in all you saw was the black hole. Aye one last piece of information: most information is indeed acquired through playing the game: seeing POIs change, witnessing the live events. Bosses like Sloan, Cube queen, etc, were there for an entire season; like Zeus and Hades for example. But yeah, it's hella chaotic and unpredictable, which we all like. EXCEPT FOR THE CAR META, lmao sorry had to say it
Also the Ice king en Fire guy shaking hands, or Jonesey shedding big tears. And many other scenes you saw. Are just made by wearing the skins and using in game emotes 😂

The banana is called pealy and it was a character Donald mustard (the creator of Fortnite) came up with to be in the game to tease his brother who doesn't like bananas.
Funnily enough, there is an in-universe explanation for Peely too. There's a short animation of Jones with a banana/banana smoothie that went through a rift. It was shown at the 2019 Fortnite world cup

Playing the game for years, the storyline was more organically understood

I wish there was a comprehensive video about the lore, t5g’s is nice and all, but it’s built for people who know the lore, not for people who don’t know lore
There were no reboot vans at the start, so if you were downed in a squat and your teammates couldn't revive you, it was just gg and then you just had to wait for your team to either win or lose that game. I don't think they came until chapter 2. There were solos, duos and squats in chapter one but no trios, that didn't come until much later. Chapters were only added in chapter two so you could tell the difference when people mentioned seasons so if you just said season one it was hard to know if it was season one on the old map or the new one. Epic chose to make chapters so that you would get the feeling that you had now started a new fresh game.

It's all built up from events, in-game dialog, comics, trailers, interviews and assumptions over the years. Some of it is (still) just guesswork that could turn out to be wrong.
An example geno who was on the island in the castle was defeated and we know that from a blog post that announced 2 skins for fortnite crew.
Thanks for this refresher! I'll need another in a couple months 😂 also, don't know if you know but most of this is game play too we all do so you'll be more immersed..buuuut there's not much of stories since Mustard left.
There's been a pretty good story so far this chapter. I wish they'd done something with the story from C4S1 though: it basically got dropped.

These are random beings who want to have power over the entire metaverse and they can get that by getting hold of the zero point, as it has so much energy that if you first get hold of it and control it, you can exterminate all your enemies, as easy as snapping your fingers, almost just like Thanos. The problem is that the zeropoint is just like the earth's core, if it disappears, then the earth dies. So if the zeropoint disappears from the Fortnite island, then the island and everyone on it dies and Fortnite with it, therefore the zeropoint must be defended at all costs, so that we can continue to kill each other forever.

But the game was failing and epic games saw a new genre and in a few months made the new fortnite battle royale. I am pretty sure that there was no reboot cards.
the game was not failing lol as a game costing money it got 1m sales in the first month, they just decided to make a quick BR game and it blew up. Also there was barely anything at the start, definitely not reboot vans.

I can 100% feel Drew… I mean, they don’t even care to tell the story in the game, it’s just thrown out there through random channels and a ton of people miss most of it. Stupid way to waste most of your hard work… And then videos like this happen and nobody is even able to understand it all because it was so much but scattered and disguised and messed up. Fortnite’s way to tell its story is the worst I’ve ever seen.

The story went down the drain after Chapter 3, the guy in charge of the whole thing wasn't supervising it anymore after that. Chapter 4 Season 1 looked promising but they did nothing with it, so nowadays there is no big plot basically

The comic book pages were from a special comic that was canon, but it's rare for fortnite to distill story info that way. Usually, and this goes for the current season as well, story is dispersed through story quests that get released semi frequently as the season progresses.

When it start was even is it supposed to be Battle Royale it was a zombie survival the game started to die so they made battle royal rip of of pubs and it got popular
It's clear to see the confusion on your face, but don't worry, you're not the only one, there are many of us who don't understand much of the storyline, it's really messed up and it doesn't feel like there's a common thread in it. It feels like they randomly came up with it so it fits with whatever collab they just made, it also changes a lot in time, one moment you are in the past, right after you have been in the future, and suddenly you are back in the present and all is explained with snapshots and it is not possible to find out who is what and why and how.

Most of the storyline can only be found out by reading the fortnite comics, the problem with the fact that it was mostly in the USA that you could buy them, so if you are from Europe or elsewhere in the world it was almost impossible to follow the storyline, since you only had the part of it from the game itself that you could follow by solving the different fortnite tasks that are every week, here there is for example npc where there is a dialogue you can read and based on that there is a storyline that you can follow.

When the game first came out, there was Solos, Duos, and Squads. Trios wasn’t added until Chapter 2: Season 5. I actually recall questioning why there wasn’t trios in the early days of Fortnite when I first started playing back in 2018. Reboot vans were first added in Chapter 1: Season 8. Before then, if you died, your teammate couldn’t save you; the only chance was to revive you before you died. You also used to spawn on top of the van instead of in the sky. And I’m pretty sure they took less time to reboot than they do now. You are correct about Zero Build. It wasn’t added until March 29, 2022; which I believe was Chapter 3, Season 2. We are currently on Season 30, if you take away the chapter aspect and pretend it never existed. The game used to be a lot simpler and less confusing for beginners than it is now. But games evolve over time and that’s what makes them stay fun and how I’ve been able to play for 6 years almost consecutively. Great video, Drew!

I've played a little in Chapter 1 Season 4-5 but quit until Chapter 2 and have played ever since Chapter 2 Season 1 and I know absolutely nothing about the Fortnite Story Line lmao it's so confusing and I'm like you all this information goes through 1 ear and out the other and retain very very little of any of it despite me literally playing through the most of the story line.

Btw, I'd LOVE to see you check out VALORANT. It's a really enjoyable game with addictive lore. Every agent (there are 23) has their own unique personality and backstory. Also, seeing you reacting to Val's lore after maybe a few months (if u like it :>) would be amazing!
