Life changing. LIFE CHANGING! I've even tried to "fix" things for a friend (twice, I'm sorry to say) when they were upset, feeling slighted by a third friend when I was sure it was a silly mistake. Really? How foolish is that? She didn't want help, She wanted to be upset so I finally got it and "let them". Thank you for your brilliance, Mel.

OMG! "Why do you have to be so effin hurt about everything " Yes! I'm almost 50 and finally figuring this out. That said, I've been doing the work to address the trama and missed life lessons to change this tendency. It's worth it and your content has helped in so many ways.

Sometimes our values need amending. Maybe being included at all costs is a value that needs amending. Also, I'm not self aware if I don't understand why people exclude me. So maybe I need to invest my time on being my own best friend, and then see who I'm really attracted to, who do I really want to be included with, and maybe I really won't be hurt when I'm excluded.

I understand let them, such a good point. But my issue is with the idea that is being passed around that it’s either rescue or let them go. A person in a fragile or non understanding place within their fragility, doesn’t need to be dropped or let go. I’m glad you ended with the idea we need to hold space for that person without allowing their issue to effect your life. People who struggle need us to let them while they are struggling while holding space.

I'm holding on the fear to really launch myself and dare to want to leave from my art. It's so hard to shut those voices down and it's hard to let go of the limiting believes I've been infected with.
I'm holding tight onto this fear and belief than I don't deserve it and it's not for me, that I'm too shy and too discrete to shine and show my art.
I discovered your podcasts 2 months ago and they are changing my life. Truly.
    Thank you Mel ❤✨

Mel thanks for this it is very timely. I am letting go of a 15 yr old friendship. They are a couple about 10 yrs older than my husband and I. They have retired and the drinking, that was always an issue, has become much worse. My husband decided to stop drinking, our friends are extremely uncomfortable with it. It has become a way for us to move away from the friendship without it being weird because they have made the move. I am a complete coward. I am really struggling with the change and I miss them, I have to go through this process. I have never been very good at making friends. Trying to tell myself to stay focused and LET IT GO!!!

I wish more people understood this especially in relationships, my now x wife described early in the podcast explains how she was while I tried to stay as calm as possible no matter how bad she stoked the fire for reactions with being driven by emotion rather then the logical aspect I took at things, our mental health problems didn't help and makes it more difficult to navigate but it's possible if someone takes a logical level headed look around as a whole before making emotional driven and irrational decisions

After you’ve ’let them’ - rude to you, passive aggressive, act like you don’t exist, don’t care about your feelings ever, are given silent treatment…. Then what?
If you don’t want to completely disconnect from them (ie parents) , how to engage & what do ‘boundaries’ look like after you ‘let them’?

And what about difficult court cases when you have lawyers and judges who decide on your life - could I "let them" too and remove my foot from the gas? Are we indifferent to everything?
