Dr. Joe is so real here at 9:57 and consistent b/c at his retreats he ALWAYS rolls his eyes and teases dating apps.
"So I like the idea that it wouldn't happen on a date from an app. It could happen at a bank, a seminar, it could happen in the grocery store, in a way that you least expect. When we get to a state we're so happy that we are no longer looking that's the state where people attract people".

Five retreats in the last few years. They are intense and I am a different person. Thanks Joe. I never thought I’d be a year sober, done with toxic jobs and relationships. Feels so good to know this and trust in my future. I had this peace pre pandemic and lost it to alcohol. So glad to be back. ❤

The love of my life decided to leave me, I really love her so much I can’t stop thinking about her, I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail, I’m frustrated, I don’t see my life with anyone else. I love Joe! He really makes me think about how everything in our societies and cultures are built on nostalgia and remembering the past...which results in longing, and sometimes suffering. It might feel good to look back into the past but does it really serve us for the better? Beyond remembering things for basic survival, what good is it to dwell on painful memories.
I was looking through a box of old books a few years ago and came across a book called "Only Forward". I don't know what the book was about but the book cover stuck in my head. Anytime I start to think about anything painful in my past, I just pull myself back to that book cover in my mind. It automatically resets my thoughts.

Jay, you are of Indian descent. Please invite some Indian traditional medicine doctors and spiritual healers also. All the information this person is talking about is known in Indian spirituality for ages. You should highlight that through your podcasts. Otherwise, the younger generation thinks that all this came from the west.

Belief is a necessary element for trust to happen. You can’t trust in a new paradigm if your current paradigm contravenes it and inhibits that new belief. For example, I can’t trust that other people could consider me beautiful if I currently believe I’m ugly. You have to reach further to analyze the origins of that current belief. Where did it come from, how did it come about, who was it meant to serve? By this analysis, you determine whether the current belief (and which parts) are rooted in reality and truth that would be worth keeping. In this example, my mother suffered borderline disorder and narcissism. She needed division in our home to triangulate politics in order to maintain her marriage. So the house was divided in its loyalty to her and I was the scape goat. Half of me was acceptable half the time. The other half of me was meant to always be bad in that narrative so that my mother could succeed in her BPD world. As such, I was imprinted with internal divide and self loathing. That paradigm was a lie meant to serve a parasitic relationship. The moment you realize this level of a lie, the mask is removed from your reality. And you are free to believe in something so much more real about yourself. You are now at the precipice of new birth of the self and self discovery. It’s a realization that half of you had never existed in the light of day before. That the fake war inside of you has finally ended by the defeat of the lie. And for the first time you are in peaceful loving embrace with every disparate parts of yourself. You have found a new paradigm in duality and have dispelled the prior belief of division…which has been revealed to be a myth all along. So you are now fluid and free to believe in and trust in your future self.

he is great at this understanding of body mind connection, making great sense of how it works, the known and unknown fear and detachment, but he is the one that knows correct? how does he apply it in his own life, why does nobody ask him. Because philosophy is great from a philosopher, but it would be greater if he would be able to apply it himself, correct?
