      It’s always a good option to keep some gold. Well with the current market situation and everything at stake with the present economy, I’d say you’re better off staying away from stocks fr awhile or better still reach out to an adviser for guidance.

      True, a lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for license advisors and came across someone of due diligence, helped a lot to grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to approx. $550k so far.

    A CRA employee literally yelled at me last week. I was just asking some questions, to be sure Im following the law and he was mocking me and yelled. I asked him if he was having a bad day and he said yes, and yelled some more. I asked him for his name and he hung up on me. CRA is a joke.

    Meanwhile, a lowly pleb, I recently purchased a used car for $10k. 3rd owner. With each sale, that same car has now generated 3 fed plus prov tax transactions. The same car! Nice work if you can get it, Taxman! My Canadian heart just broke a little more learning of this massive tax fraud case. Where did the country I was so proud of for 50+ years go? Integrity? Values?     I dealt with nefarious Telus billing practices that involved at least three different customer service representatives in three different countries. It does not surprise me that corrupt telecom practices occur in Canada. The CRTC should reap the criminal justice that this kind of regulatory practice has sown in Canada. You cannot help but conclude that government regulation is as corrupted as the telecoms involved.

    I have to chime in, as an out of work Cyber Security professional my job (if I worked for the government), would be to help track and stop this sort of thing.
    Even with government clearance, years of experience etc. I can't get my foot in the door. Neither can many other security people - it's a myth that there aren't enough skilled workers available; the hiring system is broken in Canada.
    Don't hire the right people, don't expect the right results.

    The more I watch this, the worse it gets. There is no Real Telecom provider that would give 10's of Millions of dollars of credit to a company with a P..O box. Never.
    I am wondering if these deals, minutes of telecom, were in fact real.
    Maybe 5th Estate might want to hire a retired Business man as a Researcher. That's me, I am available.

    Why on earth hasn't the Canadian IR department got recording systems to show whether tax has been paid on goods that refunds are claimed for, in the first place?
    Unbelievable.
    Claimants should be required to produce evidence tax has been paid, just like evidence of car or house ownership. That would immediately fix the problem, no one would buy goods for export which tax had not been paid on.

      Bingo! The Mulroney and Chretien governments abandoned the simpler, single stage FST for the complex multi-stage GST, thereby creating the opportunity for these kind of scams to occur. I'd vote for scrapping the GST and returning to the FST any day of the week (and twice on Sundays).

    I came here as someone who was sold the canadian dream. I am a citizen now but it pains me on the incompetence of the politicians in all parties, our policy makers and then institutions like CRA and Bank of Canada. I mean can anyone do their job right.? If not for the hard working everyday Canadians, this country would be in a worst state than it is.

    KPMG Accounting firm has a long history of helping wealthy clients cheat on their taxes through banks in Isle of Man. The CRA gave a handful them a slap on the wrist. Those were just the ones who got caught.

    As someone who is struggling to cover monthly costs every month in Canada Toronto. I look at this and say. Wow what kind of mind did these scammers have and why can’t I think of such ideas. I’ve never been able to save upto $20k in my entire life and these guys are shifting billions and millions.

    I was surprised at this, as I looked further is seem like it happens to other countries. It is a lesson for Canada ( CRA ) to spend some money to stop losing lots of money to fraudulent pay outs.

I know a lot of people think CBC is a waste, but the CRTC (which is truly directly affected by the government even though it’s supposed to be an arms length agency) keeps hacking away and restricting CBCs ability to remain relevant, all the while getting a lot of its money (I believe, if I’ve read things properly) from other platforms that compete directly for market space with CBC…
