They are still better than they were a year ago. Rhule was always going to have growing pains coming into the Big 10, but he shows a willingness to make necessary changes to win. Rhule is not the best X and Os coach but he is a leader. He is getting the recruits. Flipping Dawson Merritt? Thankfully players are still buying in while the "fan" base is still going into a manic breakdown. I agree with most of what you said Adam. Thanks for being a voice of reason among all the hot takes right now.
Absolutely - there is no reason they can't jump to a 10+ win season. All the ingredients were there this year, and they looked like a rerun of the last 10 years.
I agree 1000%, the team has gotten used to losing and mediocrity has been acceptable for far too long. It took a long time for that mindset to get to where it is and it will take some time to really change it. In my opinion they need to beat a ranked team or 2 and win when they are expected to lose and prove to themselves that they can win when it matters most
Yep, this is exactly it. Everyone expected 6-6. Eventually this team has to turn a 6-6 expectation into a 9-3 reality. There was 9 wins out there. They've got to figure out how to make game winning plays in toss up/close games. Instead they find game losing plays in toss up/close games.
I think the Huskers made a colossal strategic mistake on their last offensive possession. They should have just run the ball and if time ran out so be it. Their strength in this game was their defense. They would have had a tremendous advantage in overtime. I don't believe Iowa would have scored except perhaps a field goal. They should have played to this strength rather than trying to go 80 yards from deep in their own side of the field in the last minutes of the game. I saw this fumble coming even before it happened.
Agree. QB stance looked like he was standing in line at Walmart about to put the Snickers back and leave. Not enough ball security and football IQ with game on the line. Quit taking losses bc you want to make something happen--because you did. You gave them the ball. Throw it away don’t take loss live to fight another down. Christ boy

Have found that a weird comparison from the git go. How many years ago was he a coach there? Lots has changed in the game of football since then. There's very litte in common between either of those schools & B1G play. Plus, record of those teams against ranked opponents is abysmal 😢
Sorry, not sorry but it seems to me NIL has created a bunch of entitled, coddled players who don’t know what it is to play with conviction and intensity. Are coaches afraid they’ll lose players if they pressure them, challenge them? I don’t know. Just an opinion.
I'm worried about what this month has in store for this team! I am so worried about losing players and couches! Some changes need to be made in our team playing together. Help get these young men in a good positive attude. !
Being 1 and 7 in November shows you the lack of development and regression as the year goes on. 2 years in a row the team has regressed throughout the season. Player development is necessary if you want to grow/rebuild a program
#5 thing we need to do. Make the everyday boring "can of corn" play. If the ball hits you in the hands, catch the ball, if the receiver is wide open, put the ball where he can catch it. If you are going to make a tackle, wrap the guy up. Fundamentals, make things easier on the field, we make things too difficult by not executing the fundamentals.
First we need to keep Coach Ruhl, great recruiter! Our classes will get better! We need to get deeper with quality back-ups, and yes find that killer-instinct. Keep in mind its not going to be easy with NIL and transfer portal. Watch Teams like Georgia, Alabama, Texas and others will have a number of players entering the portal, We need to be Nebraska and figure out the best way to play the portal by finding that magic number and keep players from leaving who we develop. Remember years past, we knew power how important husker power was, we have to adapt to the new times and be innovative, be that team people hate to play, build a coaching staff we can turn over as coaches retire and leave to keep the program strong. All of this takes time look how many years it has taken to get to this point. Be more patient keep building and moving forward. I have been a Husker fan all my life (61yo) forever GBR.
Wisconsin game excitement was what Nebraska needs every game! Had they had that confidence and energy against Iowa it would have been a blow out. We are Nebraska, we shouldnt doubt ourselves. Play hard, keep our heads in the game and fight hard.
We need some patience and consistency. I want coaches here long-term. That’s how winning programs are built. Iowa wins lots of low scoring games like this because Ferentz has been here so long that his kids believe in the system. Can’t do that with a revolving door of coaches. Rhule can be great over the next several years
The Iowa game is the worst loss of Rhules time here. To have dominated every stat line and still lose is nuts. Iowa is always a mediocre team that beats us (yes we suck) and we are all tired of it. Make the winning jump next year Rhule!!!
I actually think they have the fire. They have to do the small stuff well. Like snap the ball to the holder. Not touching a punt. The small stuff things killing us.
"The evaluation of who the best coach is needs to be based on performance; NOTHING else, point blank." Adam, in terms of coaches I am picking up what you are putting down. At Nebraska the expectation is a "tradition of excellence" and it is as simple as that. In Donovan Raiola’s first two seasons as offensive line coach there were ZERO offensive linemen from Nebraska selected to any of the B1G first, second or third teams and it is unlikely there will be any selected this season either. If Dylan Raiola leaves because his uncle can't hack it then so be it. There are other good QB's and much, much better offensive line coaches. FIRE DONOVAN RAIOLA!!! Based on special teams performance obviously Ed Foley needs to go too!
Dana, if he stays will be one hell of an OC for us! The record doesn't show it but I think we are far ahead of where we were at this time last year. Depth, strength/conditioning, offense, defense all looked better. I'm not worried about the direction of this program because I feel college ball is won in the trenches which takes time. I also think we got to conservative on offense and play into some teams like Iowa's strength of bending but not breaking. A few of them long bombs that Lloyd had last year could have really changed the outcome of these games especially in the ones that our defense had them bottled up. Somewhere after Colorado we quit trying for the home runs.
In answer to your three questions: 1 - yes, we will have a top 20 recruiting class; 2 - yes, there does need to be some changes made on the coaching staff. Keeping our current OC and DC, and an honest evaluation of our special teams coach and position coaches, along with making changes based upon those evaluations is essential. 3 - yes, I believe our Volleyball team will win it all. Additionally, I agree that our football team needs to develop a killer instinct. Go Big Red....have a great month of bowl preparation and a great performance in the bowl game.

Agree with the need for a killer instinct. A question I have is how many of our players were team captains/leaders in high school and came from winning programs? High level talent doesn't necessarily translate to leadership or the discipline and knowledge of what it takes to perform at a high level. One of the factors Carl Peterson a former Chiefs GM focused on.
Been preaching about this teams lack of Killer Instinct since Mike Riley! It just seems that everytime they have to step on the other teams throat they soften up! Never be Afraid to Win! GBR!
What I am curious about next year: With graduations, how will our defensive line perform next year? Goals for next year: Return to a bowl next year plus go 5-4 or better in the Big 10 (A winning record and in the top half of the standings.)
Holgo (or somebody) complimented Barney after the Wiscy game saying “He runs every route like he’s getting the ball even if he’s the 4th check down.” WHY IS THAT SOMETHING THAT 1 RECEIVER CAN BE COMPLIMENTED FOR?! This is D1 football. How do you reach D1 football anywhere w/o that being a given? No one gets complimented for putting their helmet on before running on the field. And no one should be standing out for running routes crisply & with conviction regardless of where they are in the progression. WRs (minus Barney) really held us back this year. & Spec. Teams deserves no praise after this year at all. They got a lot of praise for just going from losing us multiple games up to just meeting average expectations.

I wouldn't trade the Colorado win for one other one but I would trade the Colorado win for two wins in November. If losing to Colorado meant that we progress throughout the season and ended with seven or eight wins instead of six I would have taken that loss. Beading Colorado but having the amount of regression throughout the season while they progressed is just a kick in the nuts and I would have been perfectly fine if we had lost to them if we had the record and ranking they have right now.
You put out good content - CU fan here. I hope you guys get better. You beat us this year, obviously, but to me it feels like your high water mark was at half time of that game.
As someone on another site pointed out, winning and losing happens on the line of scrimmage. The mind set of linemen that you are going to beat the player(s) across.

I didn’t drink the cool aide I said it 4-0 at best this year went pretty much the way I was thinking, me and a buddy think he speaks like a politician and takes no responsibility for what happened

up by 10 points at half the coaches should be telling the players the score is 0 to 0 it seems to me that Nebraska lets off the gas with a lead they got to hit the other team in the mouth
if nebraska would do two things...catch the ball when the wr's are wide open and have dylan stop lofting his passes..put some zip on them and hit the wide open targets...how many more wins would the huskers have if he would just have hit the wide open guy???
I agree players need to have that killer instinct when we have a lead or fighting to get the lead in games. Not many kids these days have that in them and you can't teach it. It's a want to and the desire to be the best. Hologerson needs to be the new OC. Hoping White stays but who knows. I wish staffs would stay together for longevity instead of changjng constantly. But that all depends on their desire if they want to do something bigger or stay and help build a dynasty (which you don't see much of that anymore either). It's all about the $$$ it seems like. Love you videos. Keep em coming. #ThrowTheBones
The best way to develop a winning mindset is to view winning “one score games “ as a FAILURE!!!! The mindset of doing everything possible to dominate and bury your opponent will take care of one score failure!!!
The IA game came down to 4 plays. We dominated them on defense. The reasons they won had nothing to do with their QB, he could have been the punter subbing in as QB. 1. Muffed return, resulting in a gimme 3 points after keeping them out of the end zone. 2. Bad snap and hold on the missed FG attempt. 3. Defense gave up *1* big run which went for a TD. 4. Raiola fumble at the last minute, setting IA up for the last second FG and win. I don't like the loss, but at least it wasn't a systemic failure like against Indiana.
Yes, thsts how I felt the defense played Awesome against Colorado but after that didn't seen to have that passion & fire only against Ohio St & most of Iowa game, unacceptable, you play hard & passionate every game!! Let's get a good bowl game & win it!! #GBR ❤🏈🙌
1. In my opinion, whether or not we have a top 20 recruiting class isn’t the main issue for this team. Good coaching can turn a 2-star player into a 4-star talent. Even with a top 20 recruiting class, poor coaching renders it meaningless. 2. Some coaching changes are definitely needed. Satterfield, Thomas, Foley, McGuire, and Barthel all need to go. After two seasons, the entire offense has shown too little progress, current roster is talent enough to win Illinois 、UCLA、USC、Iowa those games, but look they have been done? 3. No idea, I love volleyball, especially women’s volleyball, but I don’t really follow NCAA volleyball. 😅
Nailed it on the head Adam! We HAVE to get a killer mindset in this team!! Especially the offense. We need the mean and nasty o-line of old that just hammers people all game. For god’s sake can we find a competent special teams coach?? These close games just suck because for the most part the opposing team wouldn’t win if we didn’t beat ourselves. Maybe you and Jason Peter and a few other old dogs need to take these boys to the pound next season and make them mean and nasty!!!😂

A for instance thing for me is this. Why is it every team in the nation not named nebraska, the punt return guy or kickoff return guy is under the ball, waiting for it to come down to catch it, yet our guy every damn time is in a full sprint to reach the ball like he was out of position? Do our guys have horrible depth perception? Or what?
There has been a coaching problem for years. Kids aren't improving. Instead the opposite. For example look at Nash. If he stays in state and goes to Brookings he most likely goes to the nfl. Instead he goes to Lincoln and most likely isn't going anywhere
I never have been and never will be a head football coach, but if I were, my goal each and every week would be to win so convincingly that there would be absolutely no doubt in anybody's mind who the better team on the field is and that there would be no way that a bad referee call or an unlucky bounce of the ball here or there would make any difference. To quote president-elect Trump, I would want to make the outcome "too big to rig." :-)
Question for you Adam: Do you think Nebraska is plagued by the mentality of playing at the level of their competition? If so, how do we break through? I’m asking/offering this thought because we’re all trying to put our finger on what’s wrong. These guys WANT to win, they have the talent, and they’re well coached but we play at the level of our competition. I don’t want to bring in a staff psychologist like in The Natural who talks about losing being a disease while the baseball team is out enjoying the life off the field. I don’t think giving the players more is the solution. Better facilities, more NIL, etc. are not the answer. Look at Ohio State. Buying the best players is not the answer. Ohio State has talent but they’ve got a bunch of egos and lack that sense of team and culture that takes you all the way. Next years schedule is extremely favorable for a playoff bid. It’s an 11-1 type schedule. We have the talent. We need to get this figured out.
I don’t have to watch this video because it’s heading vilifies exactly what I told my family clearly back when Frost was the head coach! Every single time you get the ball the only acceptable consequence is scoring a touchdown!! If that’s not what you’re trying to accomplish then you’re in the wrong place whether you’re a player or a coach! When you’re on Defense…..you should be hurting the other players every play!
Does Matt Ruhle’s constant talk of games being close create that expectation taking away from the killer instinct. The killer instinct starts with not caring if it’s 0-0 and the start of the game, or if the score is 50-0 or 0-50. It starts with dominating you opponent on the next rep period. Don’t care about to score, do your job and dominate in such a way you take away the will of your opponent.
We need killer instinct! Fans need to make our stadium rocking like we’re playing Colorado every home game. We should not lose 2 home games against non superior opponents like UCLA and Illinois. Need best coaches. Women VB will win it all. What Bowl? Pinstripe? I’m n NYC?
Killer Instinct isn't at all NebraskaNice(TM), so we don't want any part of that stuff. It's better to lose every game with niceness that it is to win playing like one of my favorite NFL players - Ben Davis.
Better get the chancellor, regents, and university president on board with the killer instinct concept. Grandpa Riley, frost, and Rhule, all don’t have killer instinct. I think the university leadership wants it that way.
Adam said, "The evaluation of who the best coach is needs to be based on performance; NOTHING else, point blank." What cards is Rhule hiding for next year. He appears open, but you know he works in the dark. Are we really putting the best players out there or are there redshirts that are better, but he doesn't want to show. Rhule wanted Dana originally, but Dana wasn't ready. Dana's ready. I don't really see anyone on the offensive side that has a great chance of sticking around, coaching-wise. Dylan has a private quarterback coach, so whatever Nebraska has just has to help with the game planning aspect and keep away any bad habits. The offensive line may have been experienced, but they weren't great. Not enough of them were pancaking the D-line and terrorizing the line backers on the runs. Banks and Neyor weren't up to the hype, but they were probably all we could get at the time. With Dylan showing he's for real, we should be able to get some playmakers. Volleyball will be at least final four again. But, I think semi's is where they stall. If they put their hearts into it, they will win it all.
Idk why this is hard for the modern fan to grasp on to, but Nebraska will never regain its elite status & 'killer instinct' until they move back to a run first ground attack and Defensive culture. There have been 2 teams over a 50 year period that had a killer instinct and were a 'pass first' culture. '96 Gators & 2019 LSU. Outside of those 2 every single champion has been a ground first physical operation. Go through the years. The proof is there. And it's that way for a reason because physical run oriented football lends itself to killer instinct and taking control of the game. Passing in and of itself is inheritantly finesse by its nature. Can't do anything about that. But Nebraska for some reason has decided that it hates its history and it's lineage for some odd reason and wants to move as far away from it as possible. Every year we do we become worse as a program. It will continue.
I absolutely don't think Nebraska has attempted to become pass first. The inept offensive line may make it look that way, but that line will fail both the running and the passing game. They did not abandon the running game, the running game abandoned them.
I think a lot of that fell onto our NU administration and also us fans. Firing Solich and hiring a coach that scrapped the run game was a bone head mistake and where it all started just like Wisconsin hiring Fickell, thats where the administration failed us. A solid run team takes a long time to develop, any errors can be extremely costly and us fans at Nebraska have shown we're not going to give a coach the time they need to redevelop a run team. This team was the most solid in the trenches team we've seen in a while and I already hear firing talk.
I believe everything you say, you say every year? Poor coaching, average recruiting, and a lack of talent at the skill positions are Nebraskas problems and that unfortunately will continue.
Nebraska used to p!ss down their leg during overtime. Now Nebraska can't even make it to overtime when the game is tied in the last minute. But the players and coaches make just as much money losing as winning, so it's all good...right?
There was a reason Dana Holgorson didn't have a job when this football season started, his career is over. The fact that the fans are soooo excited about a coach that couldn't get a gig with the other 130 D-1 schools says how far Nebraska has fallen. How about teach the players some f'fing sportsmanship to start with?
Seeing rumors on Tony White leaving Nebraska for Florida State….? If he does leave I hope we take a new route and not hire within butler in my opinion is not the answer
Killer instinct? Telling them to get a killer instinct is like setting a raw steak in front of the eye of dead tiger and expecting it to rise up and develop an appetite. Until the coaches develop that mindset, they players will not.
I watch rhese teams like Arizona state get projected dead last in their conference to then become 1st place....maybe the issue is we need to not expect our team to be good at all then we'll exceed our expectations by far lol
Nebraska needs to run power eye and play action passes with Dylan...Dylan's speciality is throwing down field....our running backs also have shown when they can get a head steam going they blast through, to the next level of the defense...the shotgun run game is not fitting our backfield of running backs we have...except Johnson...give us some power eye, mix in some passing to haarberg and play action dylan throwing to the tight ends and deep passes to the wrs and we will have success....
The guys that have been here for 6 years only know how to lose. It was a learned behavior. Biting their finger nails going into the last 4 minutes of the game is not where they should be at mentally. That's what needs to change. Put them away before the 4th quarter.
Bowl game. Beat CO. Beat WI. For year two, it is an acceptable performance. Matt Rhule simply needs time to adjust to the Big 10, and to find all the right pieces for his coaching staff. Fair weather fans make me so tired...
Part of the problem with the killer instinct is an attitude problem. For many reasons encouraged by fan base and Huskers rich history and facilities. Players feel entitled when they get here. Seems like they have an attitude like we kicked ass the first half we are so much better then them we can coast to a win. Or going in to a game against teams like Iowa who have won and beat us but we refuse to give them any credit for it. We need to take things personal again and get that chip on our shoulder mentality back. Stop fooling ourselves because of our top tier facilities that we are in the upper echelons of college football and play like we need to prove something every minute because guess what…… we do. It takes more than talent when the chips are down. It takes desire and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win and to drag your teammates with you. Side note. Coaches for the love of God, rep the boring things in practice over and over not just the new shiny plays(like field goal snaps and holds and what to do when fielding punts etc.)!
They should've hired holberson initially. I remembered seeing an article that he was on campus and thought they should've picked him up but they didnt. Honestly, it was obvious hire to me and maybe theres more to it, but any fan can see it would be wiser to bring on holberson over Satterfield
Will Nebraska finish this season with a winning record?! CarrikerChronicles.com
more importantly, will Neb finally become a .500 bowl team? 26-27, currently.
Turns out Tom wasn’t running up the score, he put games out of reach.
Not likely

Your damn right Adam that Rhule has learn to set himself up for the Nebraska Big Red Lottery... $$$$
We need to go into the portal and gets some Db, WR,!! GO BIG RED TILL I DIE!!!
If Raiola could hit one of the wide open receivers we already have, we'd have 3 or 4 more wins
I'd settle for a qb who doesn't finish the season with negative rushing yards.
Great stuff, Adam! Disappointing season. 1) Yes, 2) There must be, 3) Yes
Nebraska fan over 40 years I remember when the offensive lines will blow people off the ball you could drive a car through

Holgo (or somebody) complimented Barney after the Wiscy game saying “He runs every route like he’s getting the ball even if he’s the 4th check down.”
WHY IS THAT SOMETHING THAT 1 RECEIVER CAN BE COMPLIMENTED FOR?!
That fumble at the end is because of the O Line- Iowa only rushed 4. Huskers 5 O Linemen could not protect Raiola from 4 Iowa D linemen?

Yes, yes, yes
I wouldn't trade the Colorado win for one other one but I would trade the Colorado win for two wins in November. If losing to Colorado meant that we progress throughout the season and ended with seven or eight wins instead of six I would have taken that loss. Beading Colorado but having the amount of regression throughout the season while they progressed is just a kick in the nuts and I would have been perfectly fine if we had lost to them if we had the record and ranking they have right now.
We're number 12! We're number 12! Whoo-hoo! We are better than 3 other teams in the 18 team Big 10, whoo-hoo!
Great video, Adam. Who would your coaching picks be?
Yes to all 3
You put out good content - CU fan here. I hope you guys get better. You beat us this year, obviously, but to me it feels like your high water mark was at half time of that game.
As someone on another site pointed out, winning and losing happens on the line of scrimmage. The mind set of linemen that you are going to beat the player(s) across.

Dagger mentality. Show the team Jordan videos for hours 🏀
Nebraska beat 2 teams with winning records this year that's not progress to me
I didn’t drink the cool aide I said it 4-0 at best this year went pretty much the way I was thinking, me and a buddy think he speaks like a politician and takes no responsibility for what happened
Fire Sat
Fire the WR coach
Fire ED
Everyone's job on notice
Top 20 yes

up by 10 points at half the coaches should be telling the players the score is 0 to 0 it seems to me that Nebraska lets off the gas with a lead they got to hit the other team in the mouth
Yes
Yes, and yes
There hasn't been a killer instinct for a long time, even under Bo. But Riley came and rewarded them for quitting when it got too hard
if nebraska would do two things...catch the ball when the wr's are wide open and have dylan stop lofting his passes..put some zip on them and hit the wide open targets...how many more wins would the huskers have if he would just have hit the wide open guy???
At least three.
Nebraska played one all 4 quarters. Wisconsin. We scored in each quarter.
Yes yes yes
Polini had some problems but he won
Hit me the ball! I wish someone told me that 50 years ago!
Get a FB Bryan Carpenter who is 5'10", 250lbs, 38" vertical and puts 180lb DBs IN THE BLUE TENT!
Yes, yes and yes. I agree with your keys for next year. I see some definite improvement and Hey we're going bowling!! GBR THROW THE BONES!!!!!
If Rhule is going to stay our head coach, then he needs to improve on situational coaching.
#GBR ❤🏈🙌
We need to win the bowl game

I want to see a winning record and a big 10 championship
A for instance thing for me is this. Why is it every team in the nation not named nebraska, the punt return guy or kickoff return guy is under the ball, waiting for it to come down to catch it, yet our guy every damn time is in a full sprint to reach the ball like he was out of position? Do our guys have horrible depth perception? Or what?
We need a coach who doesn't hesitate to make a decision. Raiola should have been benched in 4th quarter and Heinrich put in
Asked in a previous Chronicles. Would Bill Busch be interested in a coaching position?
There has been a coaching problem for years. Kids aren't improving. Instead the opposite. For example look at Nash. If he stays in state and goes to Brookings he most likely goes to the nfl. Instead he goes to Lincoln and most likely isn't going anywhere
Lol
What a dumbass take
@johnwells920 cold hard facts. The dakota's are putting more guys in the NFL then Nebraska
@kennypowers568 everyone is. However he'll be just fine and go first round. Late
Yes, but you can blame frost. Look at how much Ty Robinson improved over the last two years. They are improving.
Nebraska coaches need to realize how important the transfer portal has become. Look at indiana and Colorado.
The game I would flip with Colorado is Iowa. The Iowa losses are emblematic of this team's problems.
Dylan Raiola needs to find a killer instinct. Boy was on L-dopa during the Iowa game it seems. Still, that's primarily on the quarterback coach.
Iowa punted nine times, it was there best play. Losing to Iowa means a weaker opponent in a bowl game.
It's better to lose every game with niceness that it is to win playing like one of my favorite NFL players - Ben Davis.
teach tackling the legs of the ball carrier !!!!!
Better get the chancellor, regents, and university president on board with the killer instinct concept. Grandpa Riley, frost, and Rhule, all don’t have killer instinct. I think the university leadership wants it that way.
That "best coaches comment" was such a passive-aggressive way to say we need to fire some guys and bring better ones in.

What cards is Rhule hiding for next year.
Matt rhule needs to surround the university is winners bring in coaches who win bring in players who win
THEY SHOULD HIRE YOU AS A COACH
Discipline…Matt Rhule needs to stop being so nice and demand more accountability instead of sugarcoating players who are not performing.
Rhule doesnt have a killer instinct. His best win is against a ranked Navy team in 2016
Killer instinct?
Except he misses all his deep balls and the wide outs can't catch a cold!
The 90's was a loooong time ago. Delusional fanbase.
Not happy to hear about the captains thing
That ain't the Nebraska way. Goes against the culture here. I pride being a fan of a team that respects its opponents just like us fans
Fair weather fans make me so tired...
it hasn't been fair weather for a VERY long time
Fans who accept mediocrity make me so tired
Bowl game...beat CO...beat WI...beat IA. Close but gotta do better
They need to get mean and punish their opponents. Also, recruit better players.
Frost & Rhule have simply ignored special teams and it has cost them several games.
They should've hired holberson initially. I remembered seeing an article that he was on campus and thought they should've picked him up but they didnt. Honestly, it was obvious hire to me and maybe theres more to it, but any fan can see it would be wiser to bring on holberson over Satterfield
