Let's be real, they may not have given him the title but he's here to prop-up Butler as co-DC(for a season at-least). I'd prefer we hired a proven DC running a defense he's proven to run well but it's good we have very experienced help on hand. Just hope between Butler, Snow, and Rhule we don't end-up with "too many cooks in the kitchen" when it comes to the defense.
I always assumed that's why he was brought in. He wanted that position at Buffalo but was passed over despite Buffalo having one of the best secondaries in the NFL
Honestly , to me, anybody coming in is a "wait and see" for me. This whole NIL thing is kinda like the game of yahtzee. Some can roll them all the time and some never. You'll see when Belichik comes in and throws a wet towel on it all!

I do think its hard on a D to have an offense that airs it out a bit cause it can put them on the field a bit more so I am not expecting the same Tony White type of D but looking for more interceptions and Sacks along with keeping the brakes on the other team's offense for the first couple quarters
I'm excited about Bradden as D-Line coach. I'm not sure about Butler. Phil Snow's role is a bit of a mystery to me. Is he going to be located here, or try and do everything remotely? We shall see.
Im so tired of what college football has become that I haven't watched an entire game since they started paying players and losing players through the portal. Players are no longer loyal to a team especially when they lose. And subsequently the tradition of historic teams no longer exists. Sad.
I can see that as college ball becomes built more like the NFL it might pay to have coaches with NFL experience. Belichek is even in talks with a college team as we speak. Possibly fewer of our players will be high school recruits and more will come from the portal.
All these grade A losers talking about fire Ruhle need to shut the hell up. Im done holding my tounge. All everyone does is complain and offer no damn solutions. "Wah wah wah, he's not doing something i like" like bro enough. Either we win and he was right or we lose and continue how we have.
Adam, can you please answer why college football should be like the NFL. 2. Are you a purist or simply goal-oriented? That is, play the sport for the sake of the sport or play the sport to see how much money one can get? 3, Given your comments on the trajectory of college football moving quickly to the NFL via coaches like Belichick coming to college football, what will college football look like in 5 or 10 years? Will there even be "college" football in 10 years?
My hopeful thoughts on Butler is the offense has better players and performed worse so it was easier for Holgorsen to improve. The defensive secondary doesn't have as good of players and they were already performing decent before Butler got here and he got here late.
OOps Buffalo does run a nickel D ( variations of fronts) like 90% of the time over the last 5-6 years, so John Butler has lots of experience with this scheme
TY Adam. Breaking down facts. This of course will mean nothing to the bloated slobs that wanted Solich fired, and can barely make it to their mailbox. Thank you sir for breaking down things for the people that can tell their ahole from an eggroll.
Not sure about Butler he scares me. However Buffalo's defense has been really good. The Braden hire is a good one and I am not sure what Snow's role will be but it sounds plausible for the one to help with all the craziness that is college football now. Maybe he is in charge of NIL part of it?
Doesn’t matter who he hired, miserable “fans” with miserable lives and nagging wives will always cry and pretend that their opinion matters. Opinions are like orgasms . Only mine matters and I really don’t care if you have one. 😂😂😂 #GBR!!!!
Jim Leonard was the smarter choice. Rhule chose Butler out of comfort like he did Satterfield. This choice will sink Rhule, I am afraid. I hope I am wrong.
I know the portal and NIL often benefit us. But for the most part I HATE it!! To begin with, there needs to be some limits. Guys shouldn't be transferring 3 times. Other teams/coaches shouldn't be allowed to contact players who aren't in the portal. It's just gotten ridiculous all the way around. It has been a head scratcher to me why the pass D was so bad this season, but with Butler's resume it's hard to imagine he suddenly got stupid and can't coach. I think the D will be fine. And I think the offense will look much better. And looking at next seasons schedule, I think things are looking good!
Was this years secondary better with Butler than last year with Evan Cooper?I don't think so.I don't think this defense under Butler will be as good or better than a Tony White defense.I will not be surprised if we give up 28 points a game next year.
Classiest fans in college football has slowly turned into brattiest fans in college football, just by my observation. Must be the new wave of college aged kids that think they know a thing or two but don’t know the difference between a cat and a man. We’re doomed 😂
My opinion exactly. Butler is the defensive version of Satterfield. Major missed opertunity by Rhule. This may be another mistake. Missed on Sims, missed on Satterfield and Foley. With this last hire it may be his demise. I hope for the best bt Butters secondary was the weak link on the defense.
I would like to know why you think Butler is a defensive version of Satterfield? Satterfield certainly hasn’t had the success at any of his previous stops that Butler has had. Just look at what he did at Buffalo with dbacks.
I’ll trust in Rhule but reading his resume and omitting his tenure as Huskers secondary coach is troubling. Was not impressed with his work here so far to be honest.
Love hearing you read Husker propaganda about coaches who you must wonder if that great why are they stepping down to Nebraska. My God guess I need to drink more kool-aid and shut up
I scanned a lot of responses. I would say the majority are NOT pumped about the hire. It’s not a splashy hire that gets you excited like Dana was for OC, that’s for sure. It’s not even giving a DC an upgrade shot at NE and we could maybe pull some of the best D players along with him. We have to trust Ruhle, and I don’t mean that blindly. Year Three is going to be a litmus test season. He has all the resources and budget in the world. We believe he has a great QB, great OC mind, really good RB, we’ll get our receivers. So maybe we try outscoring teams for a change and by that I mean our strength is offense and defense is marginal or good enough? It’s something different. It might be fun for fans. But back to Year Three: 8 wins is the new floor. We regress any or end up 6-6 again I say Ruhle has lost his luster and squandered the rare resource of a really good QB, who also might leave then, probably should if wants NFL. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. Trust Ruhle. Year Three is the litmus test.
A lot of the o-line struggles in my opinion, was Satterfield's scheme. Since Dana arrived, they are playing better, because he changed the blocking scheme.
Seems like there are now "70" people on staff? How can they find offices or are they working from home? You go over where everyone has been but it is not clear why they are here or what they really bring to change the team. I would like to see the expectations of every hire before they come on board. Frankly, I would hire out of S Dakota and N Dakota were the climate makes you more serious at your work. What is next, hiring a psychiatrist? How am I going to do everything, how about organization, drive, and not depending on others. Too many people they must be tripping all over themselves.

Did you watch this year's secondary? 2013 Penn State defense not good. Butler may have been good with professional players but his record with college players is not anything to write home about.
