BF2042 has a manufactured style. it's lighting is uniform, the colors are bland and uninspired and it looks safe
BF1 has a deliberate cinematic style, it's lighting is dramatic, the colors are dark and saturated with a grainier look

The reason why Battlefield 2042 doesn’t look as impressive as BF1 or BFV is because in those games Dice used photogrammetry for most of the maps in the older games. It seems like they ditched that which is why BF2042 looks so bland
With reason the issue of explosions and larger and more detailed holes in general was for that and I imagine that they reduced, that mainly so that they are not camping or so that the explosions and the destroyed terrain do not consume more with the 64 vs 64 Players, it makes sense that they do that in a certain part, I did not like that that they abandoned that part gives it more realism but hey
I think 2042 is going for the pure 3d modeling for stuff like that, but it needs more time to be at the level of bf1/V, and even more time to be better than photogrammetry

Tbh, BF1 is what I can call a perfect chaos of war simulator, and I just love to dive in every time I play it. Still up to this day, I'm still enjoying the environment of BF1 that no other BF game had.
Going into an empty server and walk around enjoying bf1 sceneries never gets old

I miss behemoths and class kits found around map. Seeing the zeppelin slowly burn and crash onto the map looked soo good, and also even though the game is not historically accurate it did make you feel like you were in a war while playing... explosions everywhere, the soldiers screaming for their lives and the sound of guns just surrounding your ears in the midst of a fight.
the fact that soldiers spoke their own language was also great. bf1 is my favourite bf and then bf4.

The intense "warfeeling" of BF1 keeps untouched to this day.
In BF2042 you dont feel like you are in a war fighting alongside your comrades as just another little cog in the giant machinery of war.
You feel like a superhero who gives a shit about everyone and everything because you can win a war alone and dont need to listen to or work with anybody... shame is:

I even had those vibes in BF4 when the commander called in cruise missiles, or somebody operated the remote heavy bomber. There were even ballistic missiles in the background of Sunken Dragon that gives me the war vibes (I think they launch like every 2 minutes, look toward the US spawn)
Unfortunately the current DICE devs, aren't the same ones who worked on BF4 or BF1

I'd been asking myself just like you did for a while, just could not understand why Bf1 still looks more impressive and immersive than Bfv and 2042. I'd watched numerous of videos about Bf1, Bfv, and even 2042 and realised that physical effect, environmental texture, light effect, contrast and model animations seem to be the points of making Bf1 so much better compared to bfv and 2042. I'll take the model animation for example, Bfv and 2042 have a fast-paced animation and have less movement than Bf1 does, result in Bfv and 2042 are less realistic, and they look just like Fornite. You can check out and compare the gameplay videos between Bf1, BfV, and 2042, but only focus in the animation and you'll see. And still, there are tons of other reasons.
as far as I can gather, the earliest maps for BF1 launch were made by old DICE Sweden.
The difference in the development crew is really noticeable in every aspect of the game.. I'm sure the new team are talented people, they just unfortunately don't know the frostbite engine yet.
It keeps getting worse, as the BFV crew immediately left DICE because of poor reception. And the same just happened after 2042.
How the hell does bf1 have better physics despite it using a much older engine than 2042

It is better in the graphic aspects but in the details of the weapons or the explosions or holes or more detructions of the houses it is useless with 128 players and of course I get investment from the game, but in the end it is a great game but I did not like it that detail that why did they take it out

DICE were the best team from 2002 until 2011. Then alot of big experienced developers moved on and new untalented joined, mostly from CoD

BFV looks better but BF1 holds up damn well
BFV actually does look more photorealistic than BF1, if you have raytracing turned on.
The textures were crafted intentionally to be baked under raytraced soft lighting. With raytracing off however, it looks grainy and oversharpened of course, which is why people thought BFV looked worse.
2042 is built further from the BFV engine and looks even grainier, suggesting 2042 was definitely intended to be seen with raytracing, but unfortunately we have no RT option.. I'm guessing that will come in a patch 6-12 months post launch (just like the HDR update for BF1 took a year)
@@pissyourselfandshitncoom2172 in some aspects maybe, but idk to me maps like sinai desert just seem unbeatable. Especially with the details on the rocks and mountains, the sand itself.. etc. I found the foliage and some other things in bf5 to be a step down, but it definitely has improvements too

We all know that bf2042 looks worse, they sacrifice almost everything to have the 128 player count, but did it worth it? I'll say not
more players doesn't make the game better, it makes the game more chaotic, you could easily go to bf3, 4, 1, or 5 and gave the same fun or even more
Better not to compare bf2042 with bf portal, they didnt put as much atention to detail in portal like they did in the main game

So strange to see a franchise go forwards and backwards at the same time.
The fact that we can still compare a 2016 game to a 2021 game is pretty amazing.
And on top of that you will be able to play BF1 at 120 fps, not 50 with constant drops....

128 players was a mistake. the maps are so big and empty and suffered a obvious and clear lack of detail in texture quality and everything else/
It made gameplay so much worse, it's too much chaos (and not in a good way). 64 was a good balance. They could have at least given us a choice, but nope all you can play is 128 player lobbies.

Great video, you need to compare vistas and the sound effect differences just simply standing listening to a battle in bf1 or bfv with planes flying over head flak canons firing it's a cinematic experience yet bf2042 is muffled and uninspiring much like the level designs.
This bothers me the most out of everything! I've tried every setting with the audio and usually I use war tapes. And nothing in 2042 fixed that! It's so dull and flat mixed. The guns are comparable to air-soft shots haha. It's just not a true feeling of "war" when it comes to audio at all. It feels so linear.
The b17 flyby is a pretty cool sound. That's about it LOL

It blows my mind how the guys behind BF1 could possibly have botched so much on BFV and then managed to screw up even WORSE with 2042. BF1 is one of my all-time favorite FPS games ever. There is nothing about V or 2042 that makes me want to even try them much less buy them. How has Dice fallen THAT far?

That's because after BF1, a lot of the original crew behind the game started leaving and supposedly DICE as a studio had shifting priorities. For example, DICE was passionate about BF1 because they wanted to make a WW1 game and EA didnt think it would work. Whereas in BFV DICE thought the WW2 era needed to be changed so it's not "Another WW2" game. They pushed things like female soldiers, battle royale, and lesser unknown battles. Don't get me wrong, the female thing isnt wrong but I feel like they should've waited for a modern era game to push that sort of thing as opposed to a WW2 game

When you realize Portal has more dynamic destruction than the main game.

I just find it strange that the main part of the game that had 4 studios working on on it and sacrificed a single player mode as a result, has less dynamic destruction than a side mode made by a single studio.

0:42 the main difference here is the shadow, at least for me. The bf2042 shadow looks too fake, too forced, while the bf1 shadow looks more smooth and realistic.

I’ve been playing bf1 since it came out . Played it off and on because all my friends had cod. Now that we are all grown up and gone our own way . I haven’t touched cod . About a year ago I started playing bf1 again wanted to give bfV a break and I haven’t stopped I remembered why I love this game so much. I haven’t bought bf2042 . Watching this video because of Black Friday sales to see if I should spend the money on another game. I think the fact that your comparing a game that came out so long ago to the newest game which didn’t come out that long ago really shows bf1 is a testament of its time and is a statement. From bf3 to now in 2023 . I think and personally believe bf1 is the greatest first person shooter and bf game there is.
I mean for launch it still looks pretty good considering it’s just a intentional “copy & paste” I do hope they just add more details to it within the next coming updates. On a side note I know I’m not the only one seeing how quick Dice has been when it comes to patching this game, feels a lot better right now than from launch

Do you people even know who the dice team were? They came from the demoscene, motorhead from 1997 had not only glide and d3d, but also their own software renderer that could make the game playable on a p1 166 mmx... Inventing technical concepts for the software architecture and ensuring effective graphics with the lowest hw cost was the art these people cherished. Then they run away, some random kids take their place, and you ask "why is the game not better now"... really?

The fact that BF1 holds up this well is crazy, but I actually never realised that tanks in BF1 didn't leave tracks in the ground. But then again, BF2042 doesn't leave footprints apparently 😂😂

Perhaps the worst thing that Battlefield 1 ever did is that it set the cinematic bar so high for future games in the series. If people question why subsequent entries couldn't build on its success, it's because Battlefield 1 marked the pinnacle of a certain era at DICE, and for all intents and purposes it was no longer the same development team after that. Throughout 2018 and 2019, DICE went through serious changes and downscaling, experiencing what one former developer called a "mass exodus of talent".
Guys I relaunched BF1 and I was stunned by how good this game still looks in 2022 on PC at 4k with HDR, it's like 5 and 2042 don't add anything better graphically

A lot of people do say battlefield 4 is better, but I truly think battlefield 1 is the best battlefield I’ve ever played just because it had one of the smoothest launches ever, even the weapons balance was good except the SMG’s, and broken aim assist with bolt action rifles. Still battlefield 1 was my first battlefield I ever played back in 2016 in October. Then I bought battlefield 4 which is a good modern game and then battlefield 5 which is still kinda of a disappointment with the bullshit skill tree.
The colors on battlefield 2042 look opaque and there is nothing wrong with my 4k oled nor my series x because if there was then I wouldn't be saying that
