Talking about speaking up as a conductor. Me and my engineer were pulling out of a departure yard and he started to exceed 10 MPH. I said "slow it down to 10 MPH". He said "yard speed is 20 MPH." me "I know but the car department is giving us a roll by inspection which the rule says to not exceed 10 MPH." engineer "you're right and thanks."
That was a good story.... crews gotta work together... After they rebuilt the yard in Rosville we could depart out of the yard @ 30mph once we passed the "A" signal on the main... I was a Conductor and alot of my Engineers would still just go 10 mph while We had one manager who wanted us to go as the next signal would show the dparture time for the Train making him look better... Take care DD 😜
Highball the roll-by Double D! Love that ZG2OA train! Patching or dog-catching trains was such a pain in the.... Your on-duty time is pretty much when you get the call and you have to grab your go-bag and head out to the crew base to catch your van ride. The engineer and I would have a job briefing en-route and we would have another one once we get out to the train and check out our consist. It was always a mess and if it was after a trespasser incident, then you would have to make sure we're released not only by the CHP but also by the BNSF or UP dispatcher. I stocked up on decoders earlier this year so I'm in the middle of a couple of upgrade projects right now, a pair of ex-ATSF Dash 9s about to come out of storage and get back into revenue service! I think there was a while when the ZG2OA (Global 2-Northlake to Port of Oakland) would go the Cal-P instead of the Altamont. There was also another Z train (ZNPOA) that would run and make the set out in Lathrop before heading out to the Bay. Good times whenever the brakeman and I would see out by Niles or Centerville! Keep them trains a rolling Double D! It's ok to keep Amtrak behind the diamond every now and then! Highball the Fruitvale grade crossing, SP-UP power looking good!
Yea Ive run both those trains many of times diff. routes into W. Oak.... They also went by the train symbols of IG2OA and INPOA... like everything else things are always changing... That's funny how you call your bag a 'go-bag'... all us UP guys called them 'Grips'. Yea I was hoping to get at least 3-4 decoders (not including those E8/9's I forgot about) this winter but they're out of stock... with the holidays it seems like shipping and re-stocking slows down.. Oooh well I have lots of other projects... Yea sorry I hosed you @ Niles Jct... lol... 🤪 DD
Dayve...Try Litchfield Station in Phoenix for DCC stuff. Wow...I used to tell new guys that there are no dumb questions on the railroad...about the job or anything else pertaining to the RR. We were ALL there at one time...Like you said I'd rather have them ask questions than sit there without saying a word. JOB BREIFING!!! I'm totally digging' those GE's. Great pullers but not so much when trying to spot set outs or long joints. Loved Sylvia's.........................WEST OAK
Thanks so much Dave... I'll check out that Hobby Shop.. I'll admit I've never heard of it... I'm out at my fav. bar/pool hall watching the Raiders game.. not a big fan but something to watch.. That new LA stadium looks so nice..WEEEEST OOOOOAK! 🤪 DD
Man like the GE’s , nice looking trio with the containers👍keep the BAC-5 rolling Dave, Thursday night 🏈, Raiders -n- Rams, far as I know., but hey bud you take care ,see ya on the next one.👋😎🛤🚂
Sweet ops DD!! Always enjoy your adventures and stories when your highballin 🤟🤙😎 Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend. Playing a little catchup on some videos this weekend. 🤷♂️🤪 Happy modeling!! -Jason
No layout time for me this past weekend... it was so stormy and windy that the cold air was just blowing thru the cracks of my garage doors... I lost a tree as it blew over... Ooooh well.... Take you three (Cuddles).... DD 😜
@@jaybird111207 Yea my brother has one.. he has a cabin up in Tahoe so he can use the soon to be firewood.. I mite be able to just use my circular saw.. 🤪😫
Dave I have those SP engines but Jason the Trainfreak has had them for over 6 months waiting on decoder installs I have two of them Yes you should have a signal there I am adding some signals today I decided to change the direction of a train on that main line so I need signals pointing in the opposite direction. almost done waiting on some supplies to arrive to complete that project.
Today I made a list of the engines and decoder numbers I would like to install in 7 engines (6) are sound decoders... I realized I had ordered the wrong non-sound decoder months ago for that SP SD9 I picked up at a train show.. MTX seems to just goet in a few at a time and you gotta jump on them quick... On that stack train the lead and rear units (Atlas) have sound while the middle one is an old SP blue box unit I gutted... that is neat on your signals Tom! 😜 DD
That conversation somewhat came up yesterday w/ a fellow UP engineer and a lot of times we didn't pay much attention to what type of engine it was.. as long as it ran but I did like the newer AC GE units.. they were just ergonomically better with a nice desk area, two computer screens with 2 footage counters being really helpful and they could pull very well.. It was kinda cool at night if your train went into emergency the inside cab lit up Red.. I told the Senior MOP (Manager of Personnel) that one. The old SD40-2's were pretty rough riding and there was one switch down the valley where we would get slammed from side to side on those things... anyways take care.. 🤪 DD
Hey Mark... so I have (4) 5-car well sets... they were all made by A-Line years ago and were unpainted kits.. I did (3) which were alot of work.. the one you saw I bought pre-blt years ago @ a Saramento Hobby SHop.. It was on consignment and I paid $45 for it... a steal.. Since I blt (3) of them I knew how much work went into that.. the original owner paid extra for the detail kit w/ the diesel fuel tank and generator which was used to plug into reefer containers on that 5-car set... The funny thing is I don't think I have any reefer containers (I do have a number of reefer trailers)... I'm gonna see if any are available... thanks for noticing... take care 😜 DD

Thanks for the extra signal info.

You're welcome 😊.. good luck and ya they were! 🤪 DD
Wanted to ask, you had a well car, that had what looked like, a generator, or aircompressor on it? What was that? You can see it at time frame 8:04
