I was hired to create this official trailer by Davis-Panzer Productions so it could be shown at WatcherCon; an online Highlander convention held on 21st and 22nd August 2021.
Unless marked as otherwise all footage shown in this trailer is from the new Blu Ray set, and I have tried to show it as correctly and honestly as possible, but please bear in mind that TH-cam compression will have degraded the image quality to some extent.
All the information I can share about the Blu Ray release is in the trailer.

I've been getting a lot of questions recently about the release date. Unfortunately I don't know when this is coming out so I can't answer these questions. I will update the pinned comment as soon as I know. Also keep an eye on the official Highlander Facebook and Instagram accounts as the date will most likely be announced there first.

Imagine if a movie trailer & poster art was released, but there was NO official release date announced for the movie itself. And then for 8 months afterward....🤐Absolutely NOTHING but silence & occasional redirection to the same trailer that's already been around for 8 months?🤔 Potential paying customers would like some updates🤷

Please, put french or at least english subtitles on all the episodes of all seasons, because french people like me won't understand. There wasn't any subtitles on the DVD, so we did not buy them, we definitely need subs on the Blu-Rays... And region free !! It's important, the French partly produced the show, that would be fair.

This is the same company that released Stargate SG1 complete series Blu-ray. I thought they did an amazing job with that. Can’t wait to own this. Hope everyone supports this because we also need Highlander: Raven to come to blu.
Highlander passed me by in the 90s. I was too busy with Star Trek: The Next Generation and Xena: Warrior Princess. I'm looking forward to finally catching the whole series in better quality.
Just finished watching the TV series. Loved every minute. Last 5 minutes of the final episode had me in tears.
I watched all 3 shows. I caught up with Highlander in my High School/College years thanks to Spike reruns. I saw the original film first Highlander: The Series is my favorite show of all time; Star Trek TNG is a close second
@@AJAT800 Highlander always seemed under the radar in my area. While the big shows were given nice timeslots, I seem to remember Highlander going out at like 2pm or 3pm in the afternoon on Saturday.
I watched the full seasons on horror channel.
Same for me.
I was into Herc & Xena.
I liked the concept and caught a few episodes.
I actually saw the show before the movies.
I did go see End Game in the theater with a friend who was fairly into Highlander.
Had this been on the same network I definitely would have been more into it.
Now I have the DVDs and love it.
I was pumped when this was announced last year and I'm pumped now!
Now *THIS* is how you do it. Only saw the first season, but will 100% be buying this to support the studio releasing it.
Very excited. I'm due for a re-watch anyways, and now i'm even more pumped. Supposedly the release date for the 4k version of the original movie is sept 14th. Hopefully this isn't too far behind.
Even though I'm aware we can't expect miracles from TV masters of that era I can't wait to see these new transfers and re-visit one of my favorite shows of all times again (for the first time).

Finally, can't wait for this. Owned the DVDs but missed the first three BD-seasons, and am thrilled that the entire series is now finally getting a proper HD-remastering (in the correct 4:3 aspect-ratio, to boot).

WOW in Bluray and Widescreen? I've been waiting for this for over a DECADE. This show was my faorite show of the 90's. #1 It gave me hope in those times to be a better man when I was a young 20's guy. I felt alot like
richie's character back then. I miss this show and I really miss the 90's
This will not be in widescreen. The comparison shows the cropped 'widescreen' streaming versions and the new Blu-ray master which will be in OAR 4:3.

@@fireeyes5399 You’re getting more picture in the 4:3 ratio, though. They literally cropped the top and bottom of the frame for the 16:9 streaming version.

Thanks! I was relieved to see that the correct aspect ratio was used too. The version used for streaming is just too cropped!
@@LaserdiscTurtle yeah, that said the cropped version didn't look awful, but at times it was hilariously bad looking. Specifically on close ups.

@@FreddyKurganNimmo part of me feels maybe the licensing for something in the show like the music put this release in the cemetery but if there was an issue like that they wouldn’t of put in all that effort with a trailer if it wasn’t sorted out

I need clarification will the complete series come to bluray or not? I heard some time ago it was canceled after the first 3 bd seasons! Please help as i was thinking in buy the dvd versions
This set will be all 6 seasons. Previously Davis Panzer attempted an in house restoration on Blu Ray that was cancelled after only the first three seasons. This new set is being handled by VEI and will include the whole series.
Any update regarding this? Contacted VEI by email however no reply.... i think this will be cancelled for sure.... :(

I don't really have much to share other than what's in the pinned comment. This Blu Ray set has not yet been released, but as far as I know it has not been cancelled either. At the time I was asked to make this trailer the understanding from all parties involved was that the release was "coming soon"...but that didn't turn out to be the case. I honestly wish I could say more...and as a fan of the franchise I wish the box set was sitting on our shelves right now.

Big 'ol NOPE on the updates🤷 As per usual for the last 15 years with this franchise🤦 In about 5 years we'll get another big "announcement", followed by months-to-years of silence, which will indicate that we should just give up on THAT one too🙄

I am all for AI Upscaling... when it is needed. However, here on "Highlander: the Series"? When the first attempt to release the show on Blu-ray ended in disaster; the rep for Davis/Panzer stated that they had the 16mm elements but it would have been too costly for them to get it scanned over for the whole series. If you have the original elements, USE THEM! Half assing this is only going to make the owners of the show look like fools, again.
Agreed. I'd hoped they had given this the Star Trek: TNG, Batman: The Animated Series treatment.

@@robertsieli3640 If highlander had the fan base of Trek and Batman they might have rescanned the show. but with Davis, Panzer both passed and the franchise having been dormant since 2007 its a far stretch it would ever happen.
It’s more complex than simply “having access to the original 16mm elements” though. All that 16mm material - likely thousands of reels, individually catalogued by episode, scene and take - has to be catalogued, checked and then scanned at high resolution. Then the episode is essentially rebuilt from scratch. All the titles and credits need to be recreated at that same resolution. Ideally, any VFX - particularly those often hokey quickening effects - would be redone as well. It’s hugely expensive, and potentially too expensive to be profitable in this instance.
I’m no fan of upscaling, but the technology is getting better. These clips do look better than the ugly 16:9 versions currently streaming.

I'd say "don't hold your breath", just like with so much else that we've been promised over the last 10 years, but my own theory is that they're waiting until this autumn, to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the premiere of Highlander: The Series🤷

Well🤷 Over a year later... And absolutely NO updates🙄 Chalk this up as yet another unfulfilled promise🤦 THIS ongoing habit is why the franchise is dead, and NO studio worth a damn is interested in reviving it😞 And BTW, we will NEVER see a remake starring Henry Cavill. Mark my words🤔

It never has been available. This was an announcement promo from over a year ago which hasn't been released.

@LaserdiscTurtle they didn’t use grain reduction did they the reason I ask is it’s hard to tell on TH-cam because of compression.
I just made the trailer so I don't know what software and techniques were used to upscale the episodes, but they are much cleaner and less noisy than the DVD versions. A lot of the "grain" on the DVDs is actually compression artefacts and tape noise, neither of which are present in these new transfers.
I wish TH-cam allowed better encodings, I really tried to pick clips that illustrate the picture quality of the new set, but a lot of the subtleties have been reduced my TH-cam encoding.
@@LaserdiscTurtle Could you uploaded somehow without compression like make a link or put it up somewhere where they don’t heavily compress the video. The reason I ask is grain reduction can make the image extremely soft and also make people look waxy and this upload is looking soft so I can’t tell if the TH-cam compression is the culprit causing it to look waxy and a bit blurry.
