The Highlander movie franchise went seriously awry because at the time, movie producers weren't thinking about a franchise, and IMO had no idea how to spin a sequel from the original surprise hit move.. Here's hoping the producers of this reboot are working harder to maintain a consistent vision for what Highlander was in its original concept, the TV series [I was a big fan] and how it should hang together for the future. Here's hoping Cavill's respect for original material will keep things on the straight and narrow [I presume he will have some production input...he deserves it after what happened with The Witcher].
For this franchise, this is what I know. The Highlander franchise, there’s two TV series Highlander with Adrian Paul, Highlander Raven, five Highlander movies 123 was called last dimension Highlander endgame, which was the fourth one Highlander the source, which was a TV movie. And then there were two animated series. The first one I think was a western series that was created in Canada, I think and then there was a Japanese anime That was released by Manga entertainment and I think it was produced by madhouse the Japanese anime studio. It was called Highlander search for vengeance. Now we were supposed to get a Highlander video game that was supposed to be on the PlayStation 3, but that got canceled.
So am I to understand that the Scottish accent will be gone in the re-make? Superman nor the Witcher had such accents. Christopher Lambert was not muscle bound nor an extremely handsome man but his character seemed genuine.
One thing that hardly ever comes up when people talk about the Prize is what Connor McLeod tells Brenda right at the end about how he's now mortal just like she is. I was seven when "Highlander" came out, so I doubt I caught it on release, but I couldn't have been far older than say twelve when I did see it for the first time and I know for sure that my understanding coming out of that movie was that the Prize was mortality - the ability to live and die like every other human being - end end to the pain of staying the same age and watching everyone anyone dares to care for grow old and die. I only say "Highlander Two" once. It didn't impress me at all. I dare say I hated it, and "Highlander Three", I know I saw it, but other than the sweet ivory-handled katana's origin story that I think was in it, I can't tell anyone much else. Long story short, "Highlander", the first one, really remains the only one to me. I think the second one referenced McCleod's won mortality, too, and then he gave it up to save the world or something. Not sure. Basic question to fans who remember that ending to the first movie and Connor's words to Brenda about how he could safely resign himself to loving her in the knowledge that both of them would peg, probably with their heads still attached to their necks, at around the same time: was that not the Prize?
"No limits to when and where the action takes place". Yeah, except on holy ground. They only really discussed what happens (or might happen) once. Legend of a couple of guys going at it in a temple. . .in Pompeii.
I loved the series. Adrian Paul seemed a bit more Scottish than Lambert. Popular musicians played immortals. Roger Daltrey from The Who, Roland Gift from Fine Young Cannibals in reoccurring roles, and Sheena Easton was as good playing a villain immortal. I hope Highlander will give Cavill a new trilogy to develop since DC is moving on to a new guy for Superman.
I would LOVE to see a reboot as long as they don't screw it up like some horror movie reboots have! This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIES so please do it justice. I love who they have for the main character he is perfect for the role!!!!!! Can't wait to see who else they cast! After all THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.
Very interesting! But it's "There can be only one" - Although I'm a bigger fan of Adrian Paul's skills with the blade and his mixture of Kung Fu and Karate. Adrian Paul was well versed in multiple weapons, as well as bare handed. Henry could bright some much needed light to the use of a 2 handed bastard sword. Henry Cavill is terrific with that kind of large blade and he's a terrific actor. I look forward to a reboot of this. Especially when you use the correct pieces! Please tho... no screw ups during filming. He did carry the Superman persona :(
Actually if you look at the 1980's Highlander movie again, you'll find out that Sean Conner's character, Ramirez, is Egyptian. There's a scene where Connor is standing on a boat and Ramirez is rowing said boat in the middle of the water. Ramirez says he's not Spanish he's Egyptian. Connor claims he said he's Spanish and then calls him a liar. I remember this scene because Ramirez tosses him into the lake, and Connor's wife laughs at his humiliation.
Don't hold your breath, folks🙄 5:00 - The Mongol first appeared in the original novel adaptation of the first film in 1986, *NOT* in the Highlander Origins: The Kurgan comic books from 2009.
I'd like to see. Loved Highlander franchise and Cavill is a superstar! Could be a success! Movie world needs a hit after all recent disasters ... GoT , Rings , Foundation, (Witcher without Cavill), ... and the ultimate dissapointment Rebel Moon...
I’m gonna see this specifically because Henry Cavill in it, but I think the end when the last guy is standing, it should be the beginning of the prequel to the Witcher like a dimensional rift opens up and people start getting sucked in. it makes perfect sense to me that the one would be a predecessor to the white wolf
Excellent article full of information and interesting predictions. Hopefully some of them will come to fruition and Henry Cavill has certainly had lots of fencing practise in The Witcher - perhaps a portend of Highlander things to come !! Let's hope so.
Who's doing the sound track though? because the music was key to a lot of the original film. Who wants to live forever, is my favourite song in the film and my favourite Queen song.
i was just thinking about my holy trinity from the 90's; the crow, highlander and interview with the vampire. they had not redone highlander yet. then the next thing i read is this.
The first film......a U.S/French Christopher Lambert as a Scotsman, with a bad Scottish accent, and a Scot Sean Connery as a Spaniard, with a Scottish accent......WTF were they thinking? I'm looking forward to this reboot.
Man this movie really seals it. The movie studios of today would rather grab an old movie and "Reboot" it than expand upon a storyline. RoadHouse...Red Dawn come to mind. Come On guys...stop playing the market and start making movies again PLEASE!!!!!!!
Cavil reciting his lines “There can be only one” Director “Cut cut cut… that’s not very inclusive. Let’s just make up something. This is Hollywood and we reboot things in a way to make sure the heart/essence of a movie is lost” So far I’d say out of every reboot of anything I’ve watched: 5% improve on the original. 15% are equally good. 80% are worse. Henry Cavil feels like a good fit for this and he also likes to be try to source material and isn’t afraid to voice his concerns.

I have always been a very big fan of the Highlander movies in series. So I am very happy and excited to see it redone.
I’m excited for this
Can't wait!!!!!
Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Christopher Lambert set the bar pretty high.... Cavill is up to the task, hope they got a good script.
Cavill takes his roles seriously. He's gonna helm this project.
Clancy Brown was so perfect!
He did carry the Superman persona :(
Elbow Pads|Knee Pads|Taped Wrists|MMA Style Gloves Past Present Future
What about the Soundtrack? Undeniably one of the biggest draws for the original movie.
Its K-Pop with Swedish wist
A wee top tip for you - when saying Highlander you do not... I repeat do not ovely linger on high - you say it more quickly - more like Hilander.
Unless you're the Kurgen in which case you can say it how you like!
@@jeronomosp Pretty clever.
Highlander was a very good movie
Hoho, er war und ist ist nicht nur ein sehr guter Film, er war und ist genial! Dazu der absolute Kracher-Sound von Queen (wer soll /kann sowas toppen?)...
Won an academy award for being the best movie ever!
Connor McLeod does show up in the very first episode of the first season of the Highlander TV series.
Can't wait for the movie and start of another iconic series. It was enjoyed and loved by many and hopefully new 1st timers to th series.
I'm excited for the reboot... I think henry can pull this off.
Fan of the Originals. I am looking forward to this one and hopefully more also.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Actually if you look at the 1980's Highlander movie again, you'll find out that Sean Conner's character, Ramirez, is Egyptian. There's a scene where Connor is standing on a boat and Ramirez is rowing said boat in the middle of the water. Ramirez says he's not Spanish he's Egyptian. Connor claims he said he's Spanish and then calls him a liar. I remember this scene because Ramirez tosses him into the lake, and Connor's wife laughs at his humiliation.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. But now we're up to three highlanders
Don't hold your breath, folks🙄
5:00 - The Mongol first appeared in the original novel adaptation of the first film in 1986, *NOT* in the Highlander Origins: The Kurgan comic books from 2009.
I'd like to see. Loved Highlander franchise and Cavill is a superstar! Could be a success! Movie world needs a hit after all recent disasters ... GoT , Rings , Foundation, (Witcher without Cavill), ... and the ultimate dissapointment Rebel Moon...
Ed Speleers (played evil pirate in Outlander) would be an awesome bad guy in the Highlander movie.
Why do i only see REviews? The title says Highlander Movie PREview...
Looking forward to it !
So excited for this!!!!
I will go see it if it’s done right they need to bring Adrian Paul in for a cameo
i was just thinking about my holy trinity from the 90's; the crow, highlander and interview with the vampire. they had not redone highlander yet. then the next thing i read is this.
The first film......a U.S/French Christopher Lambert as a Scotsman, with a bad Scottish accent, and a Scot Sean Connery as a Spaniard, with a Scottish accent......WTF were they thinking? I'm looking forward to this reboot.
He was Egyptian, not spanish!
Man this movie really seals it. The movie studios of today would rather grab an old movie and "Reboot" it than expand upon a storyline. RoadHouse...Red Dawn come to mind. Come On guys...stop playing the market and start making movies again PLEASE!!!!!!!
A cameo from Connor and Duncan would pay homage to the original movie and the series
I’m looking forward to this. Love Cavill.
Cavil reciting his lines “There can be only one”
Director “Cut cut cut… that’s not very inclusive. Let’s just make up something. This is Hollywood and we reboot things in a way to make sure the heart/essence of a movie is lost”
So far I’d say out of every reboot of anything I’ve watched:
5% improve on the original.
15% are equally good.
80% are worse.
Henry Cavil feels like a good fit for this and he also likes to be try to source material and isn’t afraid to voice his concerns.
Man I hope it's good. I loved the heck out of the 1st movie and tv series as a kid
