There's only a few minor differences, one being the release. It's not all that much difference than drawing with your fingers. The biggest thing is that the cams hold some of the draw weight at full draw. So on an 80 pound bow you will only be holding 65ish pounds at full draw
@johnkenneth9293 well then explain all knowing guru. What's the major differences? Draw technique? I'm already aware? Draw weight? Also already aware, traditional bows are much harder to draw in comparison, but they will give you crazy back muscles. Please provide me a comprehensive breakdown of all the differences between traditional and compound bows so I may be saved from my ignorance.
Endurance is another big thought for practice, making time for as possible practice time as you can get in ,your body and mind will develop a sensitivity referred to as muscle memory
The part that really jacks people up is between right where he says. Attach my release and pull it back. There is ALOT to learn about the form in pulling back. One bad habit formed there can lead to lifelong rotator cuff injuries
I anchor beneath my chin. It's a very stable anchor and it aligns everything from the broadhead tip to your release. I don't know how people shoot with the release on their cheek because it throws everything out of alignment. And I also push/punch the bow forward with my bow hand instead of pulling the string. It saves my string arm and you have more force the closer your arm is to your center line. It's an ancient African archery technique that they use with heavy pound conventional bows. Works way better than pulling the string.
I FINALLY picked up my bow today and I shot a bow for the first time. my friend said I have pretty good technique for a beginner. but just like shooting a gun, I'm shaking/moving a good bit waiting for the surprise shot. should I just pull trigger slightly faster with control or loosen up the trigger sensitivity?
What are you using to draw the compound? Do you not hold the strings directly with a compound?(im working on getting one soon and want to learn more about them)
The guy in this video (Cam) is using an index finger release. Compound bow shooting is different than shooting a traditional bow. An archer shooting a traditional bow will typically wear a glove or tab and pull the bow string back with their fingers, but compound bow shooters will almost always use a mechanical release to pull the string back.
So Iv found what works for me I shake a lot Iv found if you shake a good bit you don’t get the best groups Iv found a way around it by slowly moving my pin up to the spot I want to hit while slowly pulling my trigger I used to be lucky getting 3 inch group at 45 I now can make 3 arrows touch flechings at 45 learned it from Mike waddle not sure if it works for everyone or not but it’s helped my target practice and is very nice for buck fever
Looks like a hamskea limb driven arrow rest. There's a "fork" that will pick the arrow up from the shelf when you draw and fall away when you release. If you meant the other way...the arrow is usually between 11 and 13/16ths from the riser. Hope that answers your question
Damn I don’t have any of the fancy stuff I need a different video if y’all know one I have a Hoyt compound bow regular string no quick release I’m surprised by my accuracy from what I remember from childhood but I have low confidence
Did cam really just say a “nice slow squeeze”?? 😂😂 the dude is a living legend, has taken more bulls than I would in 3 lifetimes, and punches the trigger possibly better than anyone else in the world and I’m not knocking him for it, but this dude does punch the trigger hard as all get out! 😂
I did the same thing first time using a release. Need to keep your finger behind the trigger until you are full draw. Use it like a safety until you are on target. Then move it around and slowly pull on it. Keep your release short so you are pulling the trigger more like a gun trigger not just your tip of your finger. That causes target panic and trigger punching. First time I pulled a bow back with a release the arrow shot right into the ground. LOL
Kisser buttons are a waste of time. If you have a solid anchor with your release hand, the string hits the middle of your nose, and you can see through the peep without having to move your head, you don't need a kisser.
@@jamietwigg4845 That may have a lot to do with the string angle off the cams. And one reason many archers don't have the string touching their nose is their draw length is too long. Usually 3/4" to a full inch. I've broken almost every bad habit there is in archery over my 30+ years in it. I recognize very quickly where issues lie.
@@mikeford963 yeah my 42 years, I'll keep doing what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, the deer and elk I kill every year don't complain. I do pretty well in our local 3D too.
I just started shooting cuz a friend of mine had a bow no body could pull back and shoot comfortably! Its a 80# PSE with a big draw lenth but evidently i need a bigger draw length, lol. His holding arm is straight, mine is bent. If i hold my bow and pull back with a straight arm the peep isn't anywhere close to where it needs to be.
@@Range-Xim new to bow hunting, full gun licence and all, but town is moving closer to my farm, so chose compound bow to hunt the foxes and rabbits. Does it not make a difference at all? Thats good to know, I figured it must go in through the whisker biscuit.. any advice is great.

That was NOT A SLOW SQUEEZE. It was a punch plain and simple. Yea, I know you got a good rep for hunting shots but when hunting you have from like. 6” diameter kill zone on a deer to a 12-14” easy on an elk. Which allows for great error when punching. But getting into a 3” 2 or 3 arrow group at 40 yards is not very likely. After all those years of being around JD it’s crazy you haven’t seen how his techniques are basically fool proof. Anyway, good luck to you and shoot straight! 👍👍
Was wondering if anyone was going to call him out for that. He does punch the trigger like it owes him money! But after all that being said...If I got to pick anyone in the world I could hunt with, it would be CH.
@@davidholmberg5769 I too was a puncher for probably 15 years until I was shown there’s a better method. O my good days it was money but the bad days were crap. Yes, I could hit a 6” diameter spot to 50 yards most of the time. Which is generally a kill hit provided it was hitting where I wanted it. But, I learned to use the back muscles and let them work. World of difference in control of the shot. I could actually KEEP my focus down range where it’s supposed to be.
Lets not gloss over how much tension he has in bow hand too. That hand should be 100% relaxed. No pressure on any of the fingers, and especially none on the thumb!!

Don't forget keeping your elbow up level and to use your back muscles, Not your arms when you're drawing back👍
I have one question i take archery classes and my instructed said two fingers on the bottom and one on the top put to your cheek is that correct?
Correct for a recurve
Still trying to figure out why I keep hitting my wrist with the string can you do some pointers on this
Skip the lip and if you use a buckle, anchor the top knuckle of your thumb in the notch behind your earlobe. Notch and nose just work better (for me).

Don't knock your arrow to the side and then swinging in always knock it straight on

I'm being given for free a 55 lb Black Bear compound bow and the site is only one Green Dot that's it will I still be able to aim with that

Using buckle instead of boa 🤔
