  • macmost.com/e-2453 When multitasking on your Mac you often need to switch between apps, open windows and tabs in the current app, and spaces containing desktops and full-screen apps. There are many ways to switch between all of these things using the mouse or trackpad and keyboard shortcuts.

And I am used to operate my windows only using the key shortcuts for decades especially toggling between apps, spreadsheets, browser etc...and I found it very difficult to do that in Mac since I don't know its operational style..all the blogs and tuts I surfed nothing had a clear solution just like you..you are amazing..simple and clear..made my life easy..thanks again

    Is there a way to stack the apps (even if the apps has more than one windows opened) like you do in windows with Alt + Tab? When you do Alt + Tab in windows you go to the last opened app windows you used. This very useful when working between multiple apps/tabs/windows/etc and you want to switch between them in just one or two Alt + Tab key combination

    Hey! Grateful for your content, however, I was wondering... Is there a way to open a new tab of safari/chrome in a new desktop if you already have it open in another desktop without it jumping to the original desktop?
    Everytime I want to open a new tab in a diff. desktop I have to right click the application and press 'New Window' otherwise it will jump to the existing one, is there another way?
    Thanks !

    • @macmost
      @macmost  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. If by "new Desktop" you mean a new Desktop spaces with a new Safari window, then you need to create that Desktop space and then move the new window there. If you mean a new Full Screen Safari window, then that a new window too, just as its own space instead of a window on a Desktop space. Either way, you have to use New Window and go from there.

    Hey, I have a problem with not knowing, whether there is only one window open or more. For example in Email, when I open a new message, it opens a new window. Then I click back on the main window and later forget that there was another window open - it's hidden behind the main Mail window. There seems no visual sign for knowing whether there is more than one window open. You always have to check.

    What's driving me nuts sometimes is that the app/windows-switching shortcuts you're showing (and even the right-click menu from the dock icon) doesn't always work. I haven't quite figured out when it works and when it doesn't but I think it has to do with the different apps/ windows being on different desktops and or screens. In addition, some (Microsoft?) apps seem to have a bug that registers their notification as the active window, so that macos thinks the app window is already in the foreground, while it is not. So, combine these two caveats - app windows on different desktops and misbehaving apps - and you're in for no fun. Or can you clarify how these shortcuts work across desktops/screens?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I refuse to use control-tab. I first saw this done on Windows and later saw they brought it to the Mac. This is something better suited to those, like Windows users, who routinely programs full-screen. I never used DOS or Windows unless I had to, I didn't grow up with the full-screen experience. It makes me feel claustrophobic, I need room to move.
    I have nine Spaces opened up, each with a different Desktop image (mostly Star Wars) so I always know where I am. You can set in System Preferences how many fingers to use to swipe to the next Space. I use three. You can also use control-# (control-1, control-2, etc.) to choose which space to jump to, but I usually use Mission Control so I can see all around.
    Otherwise I use the Dock for apps specific tasks.
    As a graphic designer I'm more mouse-centered than keyboard-centered so I'm happy mousing around to get where I need to go.

    How the heck do I switch between apps with just my keyboard though??
    Cmd + Tab shows all apps, but it doesn't let you open apps that have been minimized, which is just stupid.
    Also, How on earth do I show all windows of all open applications?
    God, why does Mac have such utterly garbage GUI?
    It's no wonder that there are a billion third party tools to fix the GUI.

      Command+Tab is what you use. But if you have an app where the window has been minimized (you minimize windows, not apps) then switching to it won't un-minimize that window. See th-cam.com/video/FjCiKCy4UHA/w-d-xo.html to understand what minimize is about.

      @@macmost Hiding is not an option. I don't want to hide all windows. I want to minimize a few.

      @@WorstDeveloper You have lots of options if you really want to use minimize. Control+down will bring up App Expose and then you can use the arrows to select a minimized window and Return brings it forward.

    Switching between application application is not working by cmd + tab when we have minimised the particular application. do we have any workaround for this? @macmostvideo

      Hide instead of minimize. th-cam.com/video/FjCiKCy4UHA/w-d-xo.html
