I'll happily wear one if you want to send me one for free Terry (wink wink hint hint). I'll even record a hotline (well maybe lukewarmline) of me dodging Kangaroos on our local crit track.

Seems the Hotline shirts are sold out, so I bought a hoodie and shirt from Category Six. Love the series, they are astonishingly well done. Smart move to put the sound just on the rider, and the high, stabilized shooting gives the viewer a really good sense of why the rider is making the decisions they do. (I can't believe that, even with stabilization, Terry is able to keep the camera on the rider that consistently.)
And I appreciated Erik apologizing to the pedestrians.

This is a really great lesson for me about gearing. I just changed up my first fixed gear from a 48/16 that came stock to 48/19 because there are a ton of hills where I live and I needed the help. My immediate impression was that my acceleration and braking was much faster but my top speed was a bit slower. Ironically, because of the extra speed control it offered me, I actually felt more comfortable riding faster on average. Anyway, when he said he was running 48/18, I thought "oh so he's not going to go as fast as some of the other guys I've seen on this channel". But this dude rips. He definitely uses the fast stopping and acceleration, but he was hauling ass at times when I thought he couldn't. It really is more about how you use it. Thanks for the vid as always Terry

    • @cirofdo
      @cirofdo ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah it makes a lot of sense, because there are few opportunities to get max speed. In the other hand there are a lot of scenarios when you need to accelerate or brake, specially in my case where I actually stop in most red lights.

I think the reason I like these videos so much is that this is simply the best way to make your way through a big city like New York.
What I mean by best is the cheapest and fastest, perhaps also the most impressive.
I don't care if you're breaking laws, regardless, you'd be the victim of your own alleged stupidity, in most cases.
What I'm trying to say is, I like what you do Terry, keep it up.

Lets be real here. If he followed all the traffic laws, it would be a boring snoose fest video. Nobody would watch a video of him standing with his bike waiting a full minute for the light to change green or him sitting behind a car stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Right? We watch the "extreme" city bike ride or the mountain bike ride because of the dangerous risks. Risks that we wouldn't take because lack of skill and guts. I don't like zooming by a pedestrian on crosswalk or blowing a red light and just missing a car but I can still appreciate the skills and guts.

@@Watchman47 Cars speed up very very quickly in NYC. And everyone drives EXTREMELY aggressively. I've never cycled there, but I have driven many times, and it's absolutely unlike anything else I've seen in the US or Europe.
People slam on the gas when lights turn green, even when they're going to have to stop in 2 blocks. And if you don't drive aggressively yourself, you will get run off the road by other cars. (I'm not exaggerating, you will literally get edged out of your lane by other vehicles until you're stuck behind parked cars unless you drive like an overly aggressive asshole).
Honestly, it was hard to even imagine the concept of driving being "difficult" until I drove in NYC. It's just a completely different thing--more similar to like 3rd world city driving I imagine--just due to the density combined with the speed and aggression and the fact that there are people and obstacles EVERYWHERE, etc.

This behavior is so dangerous it makes my blood boil. Shot wonderfully, easily one of (if not the best) NYC biking videos I've seen, but that doesn't make this okay. I bike here too but as a pedestrian, bikers like these give NYC cyclists such a bad rap. Biking against traffic, thinking you have the right of way over pedestrians who have the light, and cutting in front of moving vehicles is so dangerous to not just you but to innocent others.
You might be great at this but I'd hate to see others inspired by you try this out, and hurt innocent people.

This will be the downfall of our country, we want to save the dogs while children die.

Been cycling over 50 years and r o d e my first track bike at age 14. Have been on the Encino velodrome in LA and I'm not easily impressed, but this guy is quite phenomenal. Have you had your first severe crash? I have had two of them, was run down by a 280Z in 1989 and in 2014 front wheel locked up and thrown over the handlebars and had a spinal cord injury. Riding again, but will never be the same.

Man! That’s quite the story. Glad to hear you’re back on a bike. So much respect. And yes…I’ve had some crashes - mostly me crashing solo doing something dumb, but I was taken out by an illegal left turn once. Flew across their hood and went head fist into a parked car at full speed. Broken ribs, nerve damage and a few scars that will never fully go away. Thankfully I was back on my feet and back on a bike in no time. This ride was a wild one…I’ll admit that, but I never once felt like I was in danger. I’m and old man and don’t ride like this every day. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.

The gaps he sees (most of the time lol) & the lines he commits to were heart in mouth stuff. The bike introductions need to stay IMO.
