After seeing them play at the Village Vanguard recently I can safely say this is the best live band I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Long live Zorn!
Thank you so much for recording this and posting. Do you have more from this set? This was one of the best shows I've ever seen, of any artist or genre, hands down.
Here's my favorite album of a similar genre: Brad Shepik "The Loan." I remember seeing him back in 99, cool stuff. Also you might like trumpeter Dave Douglas.
The bit after 6.06 and later reminded me very much of a bit of what my band was doing about 45 years ago! (around 4.50). th-cam.com/video/AwgexlLNP8w/w-d-xo.html And not only that bit!
he does not compose for other musicians, he honors other musicians by offering them to play his compositions. Or more seriously, he carefully chooses which musicians should play his compositions
His only albums worth listening to are Masada Het and the "O'O" Which seems to have somehow gone extinct as an album available to listen to. I cringe at the thought of another Eddie Van Halen/thrash guitar meet vibes novelty album.
John Zorn: sax
Julian Lage: guitar
Jorge Roeder: bass
Kenny Wollesen: drums
Wow. I had no idea this existed
THANK YOU

Thanks for posting this, I had no idea this group existed. Lage is a perfect fit for the Masada vibe.
All of John Zorn's bands are phenomenal live. I was just watching old videos of Naked City last night. Just brilliant stuff.

Anyone know the name of the first piece of music?
This is one piece, Karaim. It has been recorded with several Masada ensembles. It is from Zorn’s first book of Masada compositions.

Amazing. Sometimes my dumbass forgets how great a sax player Zorn is because most of what he releases now are compositions for other musicians.

Who are the musicians please?
Mo Tucker (drums), Francis Zappa (ukelele), Charlie Mingus (slap bass and electronics)
Julian?
Yes
They sound a bit as Charles Lloyd with Bill Frisell! ❤
Huh?
