great percussionist, he brings out a lot of toys for the intro and i love that, especially the tube thing that he whizzes around. Love Marc Ribot's guitar work also, he's one of my top 10 fav guitarists. Interesting to note that Fred Frith played bass on Naked City; he's a fearlessly innovative guitarist. That was the first John Zorn i ever heard and it blew my mind with it's schitzo composition and playful intensity. Thx for posting this Sarah!
I saw Jamie Saft when he was clean-shaven...many moons ago! John Zorn has never backed away from making the very best new music. Joey Baron chuckling through intro... Marc Ribot, world's most awesome guitarist... This is beautiful, and I am so damned happy to have found it. Love the sound of Zorn!!
Audio Psychogeograhy. Like each note a footstep. The pulse of cement and steel. Each structure expressing itself and it personality. Tribal blocks in unison with the soul of the city.

at 9:30 , what are those beautiful sounding percussion tools? They almost look like leaves scratching against one other. As much as I love percussion I've never seen those before! Someone help me out
Looks like dried corn husks or something. Cyro Baptista uses a lot of homemade and found-object kind of instruments so it's very likely something unique. Start experimenting! :-)

Marc Ribot has the air of the boiler guy who, after the job is done, sees your guitar in the corner, tries it out and makes you wanna quit.
Sooo incredible to watch the interplay between the musicians, the way they respond to Zorn's conducting. The whole performance is cohesive and tight
These performances are to be watched intently, not just listened to. So much to enjoy, so much to learn!
