    The shelter infrastructure is well thought out but seems like it need to be operated by scdf/ emergency mrt staff. I’m just not sure if when button pressed, these personnel will be ready in position and in time to handle the ops.

      @@jessicaregina1956 Not immediately, la...
      It took time because the then Sultan of Johor sold Singapore to the British in exchange for protection and abit of tribute.
      Singapore eventually became an island fortress because Singapore is still is a very strategic route for trading ships to pass through!

    • @jessicaregina1956
      @jessicaregina1956 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then you say ever since the British stepped on, which is meant that when raffles step on the beach, he ordered the clearing of forest and building of all the facilities required for a fortress before he met the temenggong.

      Literally, yeah. No one can deny that. Really effective ? That's another story.
      If you know a little bit about the history of Singapore during the WW2, the pride of the British were utterly shattered when the Japanese know where are the weakness of this so-called impenetrable fortress. It takes them only 7 days to complete the route. The moral of the story is never never brag about something for in real war, it's the strategy that determine the final outcome.

    These shelters are meant to keep casualties to as low as possible if war, invasion and big crisis happens.
    To be honest Singapore can hold out if small scale skirmishes break out and wait for allies for help but if it's large scale like world war or the island have already been breached these emergency shelters are meant to preserve as much lives as possible for as long as possible.
    Be grateful you have these in Singapore and also weep if the day come for these facilities to be use and deploy because it means brave sons and fathers of Singapore are using their blood and lives to protect those in these shelters.
    I always wish more Singaporeans can understand these and women should take up national duty as well but they always have a ton of reasons not to. No one is asking them to be infantry like the men but for God sake go learn some intelligence skills,nursing and CPR skills etc. Do a part for the country as well. Around 80% of the population have access to a bomb shelter in their home. These general shelters of which there are 586 (which can house 3000~19000 people each) will serve those who are not home during a crisis. 2 weeks is the maximum time that use is expected to be required. Humans can go without nutrition for a month and without water for several days. The most challenging aspect is to get to the shelter in time.
