    Thanks! I agree. Custom fit is the way, but being also tinkerer and off-the-shelf & online buyer, it is good to understand what the different settings do. I changed my TM SIM 9.0 degrees from standard setting to first 8.25 loft and then upright and it does behave very differently and very well. In the process, I manage to improve also my driving. Still the one driving drives the driver, but surely adjustable drivers are a great option for any golfer - whether custom fit or off-the-shelf tinkerer! ;)

    I have tinkered with my Callaway Epic driver over the years. The driver was bought from my local pro so semi fitted. When I was struggling with the driver (and most of my game) I needed as much help to avoid a slice so the driver was set up a degree, in a draw setting and with movable weight set to the heel. As my game improved I was gradually able to take out all the settings and change them back to neutral.
    Ultimately the biggest change for me has been golf lessons not tinkering with the driver adjustments. When I get around to changing my driver this time I will get properly fit and leave the settings alone

    I think the biggest problem with some golfers in adjusting there Driver is buying the correct lofted driver to make the right adjustments to achieve the results they’re looking for .... with so many people picking up golf over the last year and half I’m sure a lager number of them bought clubs off the shelf and used clubs with out getting fit I can see where this could be an issue.... getting properly fit for clubs is the difference between enjoying golf and being frustrated with it ....there is a lot of great clubs that have been released in the last 2 years and not everyone has a perfect swing so don’t always believe the marketing of club manufacturers claims with there products, so go hit and test a range of clubs and get fit you won’t regret it .
    Great Video to help people have a better understanding of the adjustments on there clubs 👍

    The solution is to write down the settings the tuner prescribed before tinkering with it.
    If all else fail , you return to these settings. When tinkering with the loft sleeve, keep the weight constant in neutral and test each setting, keeping measurements until you get the optimum result. Then you can adjust the weights to see what that does to the flight direction.

    The Callaway optifit won’t rotate the grip like most of the other manufacturers, so you can play an align. You can also get a “green dot” adaptor which has a flatter lie angle than the standard one. Put a left hand adaptor sleeve in a right hand driver and all of the settings are reversed. Options galore!

    • @cmpress9656
      @cmpress9656 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The LH adapter in a RH driver doesn’t reverse the settings. While the written number doesn’t match the actual setting when set up that way, it’s still a max of +2 and -1, not -2 and +1.

    The thing to remember in the Callaway adjustment is that the two moving sleeves are related. One isn't for loft and the other for draw/neutral bias - you need to use them in combination so even adjusting loft might mean using the other sleeve for loft. It's logical once you realise but there are some good explanations on TH-cam (try searching for Michael's Newton Optifit).

    I recently had a pxg custom fit and I was swinging terribly. At the end of the session I was hitting a fairly straight shot, so the fitter did his job. The issue was me. I was basically fit to a club based on how I was swinging at the time. Which will be a common thing and I should have maybe had another fitting. So when my custom fit driver arrived and I was swinging better, I was pushing everything miles right when my usual bad shot is a hook. So I had to undo everything that was set to make the club more neutral. So the ability to change these clubs is perfect as I'd have wasted my money 5 to 10 years ago with fixed hosels etc.

    I got fit and for me, I took lessons while I got fit because I don't want to mask problems in my delivery by compensating with driver settings. Instead we (my fitter and I) determined that I prefer the look of a slightly open face at address, then we set up the driver to maximize those setting and he taught me how to deliver the ball with those settings. I quickly hid the adjustment tool in my bag and have not touched it since...until about a month ago where I thought i would play around at the range and see if I could improve things. Let me tell you, the slider weights on the driver had a more dramatic affect than the shaft settings. I was able to effectively make a knuckleballer that, 3/10 shots I could bomb and the rest of the time was a worm burner. I do enjoy tinkering, but I think if your going to do that at least video yourself or better yet do it with a pro's help. For me, I hate hooks and prefer a small fade so that is how I am set up.

    Day before yesterday I took my driver (2019 Callaway Epic Flash with Project X Green Even Flow Stiff shaft (a medium launch shaft)) for a fitting at Club Champion. My complaint was that my launch angle was too low and my carry distance was way too short. I was open to whatever the fix would be. I was thinking, at the very least, I would move from a medium launch shaft to medium/high or even high. Trackman showed my launch angle was indeed too low and my spin was also too low. I did try several shafts and two heads. However, at the end of the day, the best fit was to change the adapter settings to my driver. The fitter raised the launch and spin to what he thought were good levels. He also suggested I place the club behind the ball just a bit towards the toe side of the club (I was having lots of heal hits). My carry distance went from 195-200 yards to 215-220. My total distance increased from 230-235 to 245-250. Launch went from 10 degrees to 12.8 degrees. Spin went from 1800-2000 to 2400-2600. Also, and I do not know why, my swing speed went from 88/89 mph to 92/93 with a couple at 95/96 mph. My fitter told me he would love to sell me something but there really was not anything he could sell me that would improve on these numbers to any noticeable degree. My response was thank you, I am going to put some $ into lessons. My drive is now maximized for my swing. I'd like to hit it farther and maybe I can learn how to generate more swing speed. I think learning how to increase speed, if possible for me, will be more beneficial than a new driver. Do you have any tips for increasing swing speed? Great video. Thank you.

    One other. Caveat with adjustable drivers that a lot of people don’t know Is that although an other manufacturers key might well fit your driver, they have differing torque setting between those manufactures and you could well be over or under tightening your head and damaging your shaft sleeve. So always use your manufactures key.

    Cakkaway is the only driver where hosels adjustments don't affect the orientation of the shaft and grip (assuming it is adjusted correctly). The D setting does not close the face. It makes the club more upright. The number settings are for loft adjustments. The N means neutral. The S means standard. My fairways are uppright with standard loft so they are D and S. The standard settings are S for loft and N for lie. As long as you get the correct combination of settings the ring doesn't matter. On some settings the top ring will be loft and on others the bottom ring will be loft. Same for lie. The first priority is having the head hit flat on the ground at impact. Once that is done, adjust direction by moving the weight.

    I have been ‘fitted’. Sadly what we are ALL guilty of, is not representing our ‘usual’ swing when we do this. We ALWAYS try to swing faster and therefore longer to impress the fitter and his machine. When we swing normally and under pressure, we only want to swing 85/90% of max. So, get a driver you like the feel and look of, with correct shaft for your swing speed. Then, sort out the head fitting yourself by tinkering on the range. Fitting for this is totally overrated.
