This is a spot on review! I have both Cub Cadets and Husqvarnas. Both good machines but Husqvarna could definitely benefit from your suggestions. Especially by moving the deck selector handle and using the solid body medal for selections instead of using a bolt on additional height piece. A. The drink holder is on the discharge side (husky) which causes debris to go in your drink and B. If you have to switch deck level quickly to avoid roots the whole assembly can become detached. Luckily I am a tinkerer and I always watch and read reviews to make stuff bomb proof. Thanks for the solid review!
Thanks for this honest and thorough review. I've owned a Husqvarna push mower and chain saw, both very satisfactory and was looking at this tractor for my new home. This model was on my short list but no longer. I appreciate you taking the time to produce and publish this.
Every point you made was awesome. I have the exact same mower and have had the same issues that you have had. My mower is the next year newer then yours and they didn’t fix not one of the issues or concerns you brought up. Apparently Husqvarna needs to start watching TH-cam reviews and fixing there customer concerns. They have been in business many years and should clearly have there engineering, quality control and most of all there customer service A1 and top priority. They obviously are making so much money that they don’t have to worry about wether there customers are happy or not. I’m sure they have had so many customer service issues that they would have that under control buy now but I have gotten so pissed off the last few times contacting them I had smoke coming out of my ears. You have an issues and they have a rebuttal not a fix. I literally believe they teach there customers service reps when training them to rebuttal and be argumentative so people will just stop calling in about problems. The last time I called about my cruise control issue I was told that the mower is so old I should just go buy a new Husqvarna mower and i won’t have to deal with that issue anymore. OMG I lost it! I put my mower out by the road with a laminated list of every issue have had with it and put free to anyone who wants to deal with the worst designed and crappiest quality made lawn mower I have ever seen. Then I put don’t bother calling customer service about it they’ll just tell you to go buy a new Husqvarna mower. Then I went to TSC and bought a brand new Cub Cadet XT1 mower and absolutely love it. As far as the Husqvarna goes it sat there for a week and of course many people stopped and asked about it but literally after reading the note I had on it nobody would take it! (Well I had 2 people try) but I knew of them to be people who were just gonna take it and sell it to make a dime no matter the condition or issues and didn’t care about my point. They got mad when I told them they couldn’t take it because I wasn’t allowing it to be taken and then sold to somebody unsuspecting and not aware of the Husqvarna flaws. So basically I couldn’t give the damn thing away! If somebody would have stopped who desperately needed it then I would of donated it to them but I never got anyone who stopped that was in that position. So I still own it and it is now a piece of crappy designed poor and low quality yard art. I leave it setting outside in the weather uncovered and don’t do anything to it accept update the note and replace it when it’s illegible. That started 3 years ago. I hated it setting there at first and still do because it’s an eye sore but then I think about the last call I made to them and leave it there. I still have the Cub Cadet and it’s operated flawlessly with only routine Maint and blade replacement has ever had to be done. Worst issue I had is replacing the battery after 6 months of owning it. It’s been wonderful and the best mower purchase I’ve ever made. Im thinking about making a TH-cam video later this year of me taking that junk Husqvarna mower down to our yearly community days and allowing the community to take there frustrations out on a $2,018 mistake I made several years ago with a sledge hammer just to make a point about how bad Husqvarna burned me. Spent a total of $2,326 total with repairs and on that mower and when added up might have gotten 1 full season out of it that it was running and mowing for me. There was always some kind of repair money being spent on it before finally I had enough. Buy Cub Cadets people! I’ve had great luck with there self propelled push mower and weed eater as well. Every piece of yard equipment they make that I need I own and they have all performed flawlessly.
I bought the YTH22V46 a year ago and it's been flawless. The difference between your experience and mine, I suspect, is that I bought mine from a Husqvarna dealer and not from a big box store. The dealers set up the machines and offer three years of service. Lowes and other big box stores uncrate the tractors, fill them with gas and oil, and park them on the apron. That makes all the difference in the world in peoples' experience. Big box stores are fine for hardware and lumber and paint, but buy appliances, carpet, and riding mowers from specialty dealers who service what they sell. By the way, your mower will mow just fine in reverse if you turn the ignition key one notch counter-clockwise from "run," which is explained in the instruction book.
I bought a YTH22V46 that was returned to Lowe's. They said it had been returned because some of the things had not been attached right. So I paid 2/3 the price for it with 5 hours on the tractor. That was 5 years ago and no problems.
I bought my Husqvarna from Sears and got a five year warranty, thank goodness.Have used the warranty twice, service guys were great. Plan to get general tune up next spring.Thank you for bagger input.
Wow what a nice and detailed review, thank you very much. I too have had bad experience with Husqvarna customer service and poor planning of certain things like you highlighted. I stopped rinsing my tractor after living the disappointment of all the hard to clean nook and crannies on that model.
Hi Jim, I bought the same tractor a few years ago. I wish I'd read your review earlier. By now you may not even have yours anymore. I also had a Cub which I still use as a backup. It constantly breaks down as you mentioned. My Husky has been very good in that respect, oddly mine has the gas fill under the hood with no gadge and it's a newer model. You really have to watch your level, which is difficult since as you point out the plastic is opaque. I'm looking into a bagger this year and found your review very helpful. Oh I also heard they have very poor customer service. Luckily I haven't needed them.
Thanks for a good review. Note that the little red wheel on the grass shut is not supposed to indicate when your bagger is full; but to let you know if your shut is blocked. Also most newer mowers have a kill switch that engages when trying to mow in reverse. What happens is that it grounds out your ignition coil which kills the spark and therefore stops the engine. It is a safety device which has become more complicated on newer models. Can't believe the Husky customer NON service dept. When they asked you why you have to use reverse; my inclination would be why did Husqvarna put a reverse on the machine.
I have this same model of Husqvarna mower. You mentioned having grass collect under the foot vibration pads and that it's difficult to remove the grass. I found that you can pry up the foot pads on one side of the pad and with just a little force you can actually get the pad to loosen and you can remove it completely from the tractor. The pad just simply snaps onto the tractor.
Thank you for pointing out these flaws, due to the fact I was thinking about buying me a 46 to 48 in Husqvarna. I have been looking at John Deere I have been looking at Cub Cadet I'm more leaning to a John Deere. When I hear poor service from a company poor people skills from a company I usually turn away and walk away. Business is business if you're going to own a business then you need to take care of your customers that's what makes your business. But it looks like the way they think what makes the difference we're selling tractors and somebody's got to have a tractor mowing tractor until that thought process quits and they start losing people quite buying equipment maybe then they will wake up. Maybe people need to boycott them that would wake them up. So anyway thank you I appreciate the point outs of the flaws cuz I almost like I said bought one. I've been doing a lot of research and your video has really helped me a lot thank you all I can say is Husqvarna you just lost a customer. that's my story that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it
I was looking at Husqvarna YTA24V48 here in Costa Rica. Your reviews ARE VERY HELPFUL! It looks like a good rider lawn mower but your information will help with my decisions.
Yesterday I went looking for a new Husqvarna mower and was a bit confused over how to operate it. The one I have now has a handle on the right hand side. Push forward - go forward, pull back and go in reverse. My property has a lot of up then down when mowing so I'm always on the forward reverse handle. It's the slickest thing out there and is what sold me on the mower in the first place. This new set up using the foot for reverse is a deal breaker for me.
You are so spot on on everything you're saying about the Husqvarna but I have a Jonsered is the exact almost the exact same thing as a Husqvarna except a different name but have the same kind of problems I love the more I love it it's the best more I've ever had but the problem I had was with the cruise control it was crazy cuz it spun around the thing that matches to the gas to the pedal gas pedal just flew around how it did I don't know but it doesn't work anymore anyway which is a good thing. And after the first year of owning this the problem I'm experiencing now is where the bagger shoot connects to the discharge has a thin little piece of plastic that hooks over on and connects is bent and twisted up from the weight of the tube and it keeps coming off even though I have rubber spring release on the back of it there's nothing to hold the front so that little piece of plastic has bent and the front the bottom of the tube from the discharge keeps coming off. Also the headlights have really really got them and they flop around and they end up shooting into the trees and the lenses I've gotten very dull of course that's like anything else but you know besides these little things I love it and my father has a brand new Cub cadet brand spanking new he's 95 years old and I have to use that to mow his lawn and I would still take the Jones of red
Thanks for the review, this mower was on my short list but not any more. Poor customer service is a huge red flag for me. The first one blowing up is one thing but it's just not a well designed mower, way too many issues. When you have to start cutting pieces of the mower just to use reverse no thanks.
WOW!! YIKES!! I can't believe that you would buy this mower again after all the issues you've had with it. I bought an Ariens three years ago and have had similar issues. After your comments about the Cub Cadet (which I almost bought), and this one, and my experience with the Ariens, I think next time I'll go back to the simple MTD. I've had two and they lasted many years each, even with the way I mistreated them.Sometimes well recognized brand names don't mean a good product. Thanks for a great and honest review. Karl
.....Damn Good Review.....You've taken a lot of time and effort to organize your thoughts, and show us the issues you are disappointed with.....Thanks So Much for the "fix" for the Reverse Pedal with the Deck in the Raised Position.....and especially for the Water Filling the Bagging Attachment Support Bracket.......Thank You.....!!!!!
Very good video. Amazing a tractor at the cost Husqvarna charges has so many flaws that are so simple to fix before it is manufactured. Too many companies FAIL to use a free and valuable resource: customers!
I dont have any if the issues you mentioned, Other than it's hard to see the level of gas. I believe I purchased mine in 2015 or so. The mower has worked flawlessly this far. I only had to replace the battery once. Today, I just did the old change, blade sharpening and sparkplug replacing for the first time..I'm the only person that drives the tractor. My 11 year old will be helping soon.
Thanks for the help! I just bought this same mower in Feb. 2016. They have fixed the reverse pedal coming in contact with the housing. Still can't see the fuel level though!
That was a very good video. Thanks for the good info. I bought a Husqvarna YTH24K48 lawnmower (which is exactly like yours, no bagger) at an estate sale for $1000. It only had 118 hours on the hour meter. Almost brand new. The only problem I have found is I can't find the oil drain plug. It's not in the usual place.
Maybe they have fixed all of the problems by now. Hopefully so. Once I worked all of the bugs out of that mower, it worked well for the remaining time I owned it. However, I recently purchased another mower…and it was not a Husqvarna. ;-)
Sounds like husqvarna customer service is horrible! That's what counts the most "after sales service". From my experience Lowes has really good customer service..Thank you for taking time to make this video.
Try getting an air compressor with a blower attachment and just blow all the grass and or debris out of the crevices. A leaf blower would probably work too but it might not be able to get into the smaller spaces
About the reverse thing killing the engine that you were talking about. all lawn tractors manufactured after 2003 now have that "Safety feature" (per ANSI/OPEI B71.1-2003) where you have to have the key selected to that reverse setting or it will kill the tractor. My Cub cadet LTX1040 has it and all newer 1's do as well. Just to let you know. Now it also depends on the drive system. some hydraulically driven will not as that is electronically controlled. But if it is a manual control (A Leaver that you push and lock in) it will have to kill the engine as they can not move that lever.
Husqvarna representative: "why do you need to go backwards?" I would ask her: "why do you need to live your life backwards?" If if this customer service was no joke, I would actually give her much respect for being able to get the job as a representative in the first place.
I'm not happy with my Husqvarna. First 30 hours and the 24 hp Kohler blew a head gasket. The mower deck plastic pulley guards fill up with leaves and clippings . I removed mine. About 60 hours I put on a new drive belt due to stretch. Very few grease zirks for routine maintenance. Poor deck design builds up grass faster than any other deck I've owned. Buyers remorse here. 224 hours in service so far.
My Montgomery Ward mower (MTD) is 21 years old and has about 900 hours on it. I still have the original belts on the machine. The only part I've ever had to replace, other than the battery, was one of the spindles because I hit a stump. After watching this review, I'll be avoiding Husqvarna as a replacement mower.
When I purchased mine last year (got the same model), one of the selling points is the metal hood. Many have switched to plastic. Will be getting mine out of storage for the first time in a couple of weeks. But great review. FWIW, Husqvarna does not care if you kept your machine or not. Had you taken it back to lowes, got a Deere, and REALLY bad mouthed Husqvarna on social media about support and how you returned one of their products and went with a different brand. That's the ONLY thing they understand now. It's the best word of mouth media source around.
Well in my mind, even if the customer service is not good, bad-mouthing a company is not a great way to get support. if i see someone bad-mouthing a company, especially for a very minor issue, i normally do the same to them for being such a lowlife that they feel the need to complain about everything and anything. "OMG my flight was delayed never flying (insert airline name) again" wow get used to it! airlines don't delay planes for nothing cause it costs them thousands of dollars for every extra minute they spend at the gate. "OMG the fuel tank indicator is useless i cant see through it" its not that hard to take the bloody cap off and have a look inside is it mate? that's what i do. works every time. stop looking for things to complain about and start looking for the good things. a couple of my personal examples from seeing this video: wow this mower has a catcher on the back! great! mine doesn't! i should get one. wow it has pedals to control the speed! mine doesn't. need a mower with those too! you will end up with a lot more friends if you are positive not negative guys.... don't mean to sound angry at any of you for sharing your views- you are entitled to, that's not my aim. but for your own sake please don't go around spreading sh*t about companies when a large proportion of their products are fantastic.
I agree but disagree also. We are not talking a walk behind mower here that you can get at Walmart for 90 bucks. I dropped 2k on my machine. If there is a KNOWN issue, fix it. If you call customer service and they blow you off, you have the duty to go on social media and get the word out.
tc1uscg hmmmm well ok if that's the way people think these days..... personally if i went down that road i would make the issue known to public in a more informative way like "husqvarna has had issues with one of their mowers where the reverse pedal comes into contact with the mower deck so make sure you check for this when you look at buying a mower" or whatever rather than "husqvarna has bad customer service and the reverse pedal on one of their mowers comes into contact with the mower deck NEVER BUYING THEIR MOWERS AGAIN!!" cause it could be that just some people are not really cut out for customer service jobs and that should also be noted. i have spoken with many husqvarna people in various places at the company and they are incredibly informative and helpful.
Forgot to tell you I just got the 1700.00 46in. For 849.00 at lowes ... felt I got an awesome deal but because of your review and many other bad reviews both on TH-cam and on site rewiews i took it back and got a Troy Built that better suit my needs. These mowers don't have a single isolated issue , but many , many other problems...a company should not even want to make a product that's nothing but problems
Good review---I have a GT48xls and like it a lot. I've had it 2 years; only riding mower I've ever owned. Got it used (1 yr old) and maybe the 1st owner worked out any issues, but anyway I'm happy with the mower and the grass catcher.
Purchased my YTH-2348 back in September 2012, since then had the entire mower replaced twice. I am on my 3rd mower due to trans-axle issues. Sears does not like me anymore...LOL!!................The engine dies in reverse if the key isn't in the proper setting by grounding the coil, killing fire to the spark plugs.
I own the same mower circa 07/2013, and I have not had this reverse problem. I will offer something that bit me. Even though I put a trickle charger on the battery all winter, the battery was dead. We jumped it, started mowing and within 10 minutes, the blades bogged the engine down I subconsciously noticed that when I pulled up the blades switch, the LCD hour meter went blank. We ran out and bought a new battery, installed it, and the blades did the same thing. I have a tractor lift, and we had it jacked to the maximum height. After removing the deck, inspecting all the parts, even pulled the clutch assembly off, found nothing wrong, Then “dough” a lightbulb lit up over my head, and I thought back to the hour meter. I was not sitting on the seat, therefore the seat’s deadman switch was the culprit. SOOOOO, IF YOUR BATTERY IS DEAD, AND AFTER JUMPING IT WILL NOT CUT, BUY A NEW BATTERY! I hope this saves someone else hours of troubleshooting.
It would appear to me most of your problems resulted from the Huskqvarna customer service, and I would also admit I have had the pleasure of using a 2018 model mower, this exact model, and it is TOP NOTCH nice, would very much love to own one, but considering they build John Deere riding mowers, I would much rather have the Deere, due to the floating tank. The downside to the Deere is that you have to push a button to back up with the deck engaged, which on my current Deere I bypassed within about five minutes of ownership. To pick your review a bit, the reverse pedal looks adjustable, the angle and such. The key switch segment about mowing in reverse, I am going to negate your part of the review on that since most newer riding mowers cut spark or fuel one when you attempt to mow in reverse without going through the safety switch, and the setting on the ignition switch is the best system on a modern riding mower I've seen. I will also say that the cruise control fault on your mower is definitely a problem in your mower, I've had my variety of riding mowers, since I buy and sell and service, and I've never had one do that. Your biggest gripes are quality control (varies from machine to machine) and customer service (that does suck). All in all your review is A1, very well done sir.
Very good video, I own a husqvarna with bagger, thanks for the heads up on the water getting in the frame. My forward reverse is up where you wanted the deck height selector. Works great! The deck height selector does get me every time trying to get off though.
OMG, the US Husqvarna people sound horrible. My friend have the same mower in Sweden and when he had issues with it not starting Husqvarna in Sweden was very quick and friendly to fix it (they actually replaced the mower)
I bought one used. I wish i had see this video 1st. At least I know I am not a dork when it comes to some of the same issues you have shown. Thanks for the info. At least I will know how to deal a bit better when it comes to customer service.
They fixed that reverse issue in later 2016 models. The craftsmen models of 2013 dont have that problem. I've got both brands and they are basically the same mower.
Lots of valid points (the reverse pedal issue) and some whiny points (the "can't get out either side" issue with the bagger on... Really? Just stand up and scoot out.) Thanks for the detailed review.
It has a GT General Transmision brand transmision which is a Constant velocity transmission (CVT style). They are bad about popping out the axel shaft seals and leaking grease.
I purchased a 2000 series Cub Cadet and have had great performance with it...my problem now with it is the deck is finally worn out with rust and sand holes and needs replacing.(after using it for 12 years)..so the delimma of either getting a new deck and getting a new mower for a few hundred bucks more.
Tony March --FYI--any time I had to call Cub Cadet for help they were professional and gave me the info I needed. (I heard that Cub Cadet has a new owner MTD or something and have not contacted them recently. Have the battle with using machines like this is the customer service personnel either locally or at headquarters. Can make all the difference in the world.
I use reverse enough that I want the key setting that my Craftsman has. Set it and forget it. Sometimes safety switches make more problems than they solve. Think about the gas can spouts. Either trust me with a gas can, or don't. I've never spilled gas like I have with those over-engineer safety spouts.
Thanks for doing a quality review . I am looking to upgrade now from the troy bilt pony (p.o.s) and I see all the rave reviews of the husqvarna your review is very helpful .I was almost sold on the 42" ls series but now I am going to have to see in person if they have some of those clearance issues with the reverse pedal thats ridiculous not to mention with all the features how hard is it to have a gas gauge that works ..
Thank you. I know what brand not to buy. I watched another video where a Husqvarna owner wrapped his fuel line cables in insulation because of vapor lock. I'm an engineering designer professionally see his & your issues from my experience standpoint. The fuel gage issue looks like the following. They originally used a see through plastic in the tank, then later found UV corrosion issues & switched it, yielding what you have now, which is not see through. It sounds like Husqvarna is designing, "on-the-fly," and that is BAD. You have more patients than me sir. I would have drove back to Lowe's & dropped it off for a full refund. Letting Lowe's shoulder the burden instead of you & Lowe's would tell H'varna, fix crap or we won't sell crap.
I'm shopping for a riding mower. Hard to know which one to go with. Hearing how bad the US Husqvarna customer service is makes me think of not buying a Husqvarna.
I had a 2016 Hus, with fab deck and bagger. Called just service several times for the reason of grass blowing over me and tractor while cutting. It took two letters and a heavy hitter to resolve. i had to make skirts around bagger to prevent grass blowing all over me and tractor. It took some time to resolve but they finally did, only because dealer agreed with me, it WAS a poor design. Just a note when I first called told the rep to have a engineer put his $700.00 suit on and cut grass and see how he likes grass clipping going over that suit, Thanks Bryce from Husqvarna and dealer they replaced mover with a Zero turn
I recently purchased a 2018 E170 John Deere from Lowes. The salesman tried to push me towards Husqvarna but I've always been a John Deere fan. I heard about people who purchased Husqvarna and John Deere mowers having problems with warranty service due to purchase from box stores. I would think the number of mowers purchased from box stores are higher than from dealers. You box stores in more towns than you have dealers. Just sayin
Great review. Not too keen on hearing the customer service issue with Husquvarna. Seems the other technical problems as you described should not have passed the even basic Quality standards. "Can you see thru the gas gauge? Yes____ no____ if no, FIX IT!!!.....
I'm pretty happy with mine so far. It turns on a dime and gives nine cents worth of change. I also like the fact it was built in a non union factory in a right-to-work-for-less state.
Great video thanks for the heads up on what to expect. I am a bit nervous about the sticky pedal, If I were Husqvarna I would recall this model because of the gas pedal, or at least resolve the problem. It can seriously hurt or kill someone.
+Jakop Hi Jakop - I haven't posted another update about the sticky pedal. If you are having that problem, go see the Husq dealer right away. Mine continued to stick and when I had it checked out, it ended up being a transmission problem. They replaced mine under the warranty.
When i was stationed in Naples, Italy in the late '80's, that was all that was available. No riding mowers in the entire area, as best I recall. A new one only cost me about 7 lira at the time. It was very nice and worked quite well. I had to laugh when you mentioned such, as most young folk these days would not even know what you were speaking of, let alone, how to actually use one. :-)
To avoid the horrible Husqvarna customer service, buy your tractor's version at Sears as a Craftsman tractor, that is what I have done ;-) I believe my model is a T3400
+Max Shahmoradi I tried linking it to the Husqvarna website. However, they removed the link and said it could not be posted because I "used derogatory terms" within the video. :-)
I didn't hear any four letter-style words, you gave a critical review, and some of the things would irritate me too. I would. like Sheep TV suggested below, instead of rinsing the tractor, I would use a compressor or leaf blower to clean out debris and wash it below the deck of accumulated clippings. Some businesses only allow positive reviews and I would think Husqvarna being over three centuries old would take criticism and learn from those areas of criticism to make an even better product.
I have the same mower; do you know the part number for lower chute that connects to the mowing deck? I'm having trouble matching up the part to my mower.
Hi, I apologize for the late question but I recently purchased a YTH24V48 also. When your wheels are straight on yours, do they look to be bowed it sort of a "toe in" kind of look?
Would you please identify the bagger model #? Would you please itemize part numbers i.e. lower chute #; upper chute #; etc.. I know I’m asking a lot, but this info is not in owners manual or available online.
Mine goes backwards just fine and doesn't hit anything - 2021. Of course it's supposed to go backwards ... sounds like a ding-dong on the phone. I have had GREAT service with Husqvarna. Hopefully it's been fixed by then.
Thanks for the great review. I think I will pass on this mower. I've had a snapper for 20 years and I've done almost no maintenance work on it, meaning I have definitely abused it. But it keeps on running. I'll probably get a few more years out of it before jumping to a new mower. I also have a snapper push mower I bought at the same time and it has been ultra reliable. I hope Snapper is still as good as they were 20 years ago because they will be on my short list for a new mower.
I'd never buy a riding mower from Lowe's as they just slap the things together. Go to a small store like Ace where they take the time to do stuff right. At least our local one does. I've never had the reverse problem but then again, I always remove those spindle covers whenever I buy a riding mower as I'm intelligent enough not to put my foot down there while the blades are engaged. All those covers do is to collect grass and debris under them helping to rot out the deck faster.
ANY HELP????? Replacing MOTION DRIVE BELT.....YTH24V48 Laying on ground looking up....making brake side the right side.... do you feed the belt to the right or left side of the STEERING COLUMN ????? reading manual Im reading as right???? PLEASE HELP My mower is creeping...will not pull sweeper... THANK YOU SOOO MUCH......
Mine is 3 seasons old now. 2 weeks after getting it, punctured front tire, plugged it and it still holds air. Change oil at the end of every season (and filter). A couple of things I think need improvement. 1. The little red spinning wheel on the grass tube is USELESS. Seems not to turn for anything. I've even put a little wd40 on it hoping it would do it's thing but it doesn't. 2. Head lights are not AIR TIGHT so if you are in a dusty environment, they will get dust inside (and water if you hose off the tractor from time to time). 3. I wish it would let you lift the deck higher, mostly for navigating in rough terrain. 4. The mower deck guards. WHY would they have one on the bottom of the deck and one on the top? I would think you would want both to be UNDER the deck to protect against no only bumps but rubs. Just one of those "hmmm" moments. I've purchased the front mount de-thatcher, a 4wheel pull behind trailer, pull behind aerator. Also got the 3 bagger system. I did have a pull behind de-thatcher but got tired of spending twice the time doing the job. Think they fixed the reverse issue because I've never noticed the problem you pointed out. Got mine in 2016.
Yes, I still have the same complaints about mine, although it has been running well since I first did this review. I was able to get the "reverse issue" resolved a while back. It ended up being a problem with the transmission and was covered under the warranty.....but I had to transport the tractor to/from the repair shop and wait a month for the repair. Just a pain in the rear! Thanks for your comments!
Thank you for your review. Can you share the number you called for Husqvarna? The height adjustment on my YTH23V48 purchased from a dealer is really poor in that I cannot get it to cut higher than 2 in. The dealer told me that has been a draw back that was corrected on newer models.
Husqvarna was the worst lawn mower that I've ever owned. I bought mine from a dealer and it was the heaviest and largest model made. ( GT series as opposed to the YT series ) Here's just a few things about mine; The steering wheel would strip out every two or three mowings because it was plastic, so therefore you had no control concerning direction of travel. The reverse was terrible. It would barely back up a slope, and eventually just stopped moving backward on a slope period. Finally the transmission went out completely and I got no help from Husqvarna or the dealer. I have nothing good to say about this product and I will never own another Husqvarna product. All of this and many other problems with this happened within the first year of use. I sold the piece of crap for 200.00. After I sold it, I bought a used John Deere X540 from a John Deere dealer. Wow!! What a great machine! Good customer service from the John Deere dealer too!
thanks for the review Jim!! I have been struggling with choosing between this Husqvarna 48" cut mower but with the KOHLER 7000 engine and the John Deere D170 Briggs and Stratton engine 54"cut from Lowes in Canada. I have only ever owned a Craftsman and don't know which one to go with from Lowes but this review has helped. Do you know anything about the D170 John Deere made or how was your experience with JD? Thanks
I ended up going with the Husqvarna 48" 24HP as they have fixed many of the issues that you pointed out in your video. Like the reverse issue at higher cut lengths has been altered on the mower deck, so no need to cut away anything anymore. It was also $500 cheaper than the JD D170 . I also looked at the bagging system for the Husqvarna and it is $200 cheaper than the JD. Thanks Again for your helpful review !
Fenian Raid If you haven't gotten your bagger kit yet, remember that the Poulan Pro and Craftsman baggers are the same as the Husky. On Amazon the Poulan kit is $300 for my 54" Husky and the Husky kit is $500+... Just a tip! The Husky, Poulan, and Craftsman tractors are all built by the same company...
+Joe Maley I thought that Craftsman was built by MTD? Husqvarna is not part of MTD, but they use simmaler parts. Poulan, Ryobi, and Weed Eater are also MTD.
Trying to change oil filter, definitely not on finger tight. Now I am second guessing direction to turn it(This is my second because the first one fell apart & had to be replaced, long story) Help, just want to know direction to turn as dealer did change it last fall for tune to get it ready for spring.
seems like some husqvarnas are good and some are bad. i have a 2011 ariens riding mower with a briggs v twin 20hp engine, and 42"deck, made by husqvarna. its been an excellent mower. however i`ve read horror stories about some husqvarnas. whatever mower you buy, i recommend the engine be a v-twin .... single cylinders are no good when you have high horsepower in my opinion.. also stay away from kohler engines. do reviews before buying
Most of these mowers including JD are made by MTD. Literally you take the body panels off and the frame and running gear is all the same. MTD makes average grade products. The key to dealing with this is to become your own service and repair for the mower. This seems unreasonable but in the end it makes for a much more enjoyable ownership experience. Also, you end up fixing things at a fraction of the cost and your downtime becomes negligible. Further, i never ever buy new equipment anymore and get mine gear at a fraction of the cost of a new machine. Just some sage words of advice from a gearhead.
faroff I would go to an outdoor equipment store instead of a big box store and buy a commercial mower. Not sure which brand I would go with since I haven’t shopped lately. You will probably pay more, but will get a better quality product and better support if needed.
Unfortunately a huge problem is buying from lowes or home depot. Husqvarna, john deere, etc are all built to a lower spec for box stores than what you would get buying from a dealer. Most john deere's at lowes/HD aren't even built by john deere, but rather "inspected" or sometimes assembled by a john deere "contractor". I'm sure the story is similar for the husky's. The vast majority of complaints for both of these companies, comes from models purchased at a lowes or home depot.
+sens2k5 John Deere D series machines are built by Husqvarna. The difference is that Deere requires local Deere dealers to set up all mowers sold by big box stores. The Husqvarna mowers sold at big box stores are exactly the same as sold by dealers -- but are simply uncrated and parked on the store apron. Per my comment above, setup is the difference in buying from a dealer and from the box store. And that can be all the difference in the world.
I would NOT buy this mower. I can't believe husqvarna let design flaws past quality control. Wow. We have an older John Deere LA-175 (knock of wood) has been running flawless in the 6+ years we've had it.
You have more bad things than good things so why did you buy it. But it is a good video. And I have a recommendation for your camera. You can also buy wind screens.
Well, I couldn't possibly have an opinion or experience with this mower BEFORE I bought it! Just like anything you purchase, all experience and issues were experienced afterwards. ;-) I'm simply warning others about what they 'may" encounter too.
Brandon penn Yes, I saw that during a recent trip to Lowes. However, it would be nice is Husqvarna contacted all of their customers with the faulty ones to resolved things. After all, I registered my mower with them after the purchase!
Yesterday I went looking for a new Husqvarna mower and was
a bit confused over how to operate it. The one I have now has a handle
on the right hand side. Push forward - go forward, pull back and go in reverse.
My property has a lot of up then down when mowing so I'm always on the forward
reverse handle. It's the slickest thing out there and is what sold me on the mower
in the first place.
Donald Pedigo agreed, one of the best reviews I've seen if not the best
“Once again Husqvarna, you got a long way.” Thanks for the review.
great review 👏 i was gonna get a Husqvarna but now glad i went with john deere but i do love the look of Husqvarna mowers
A big leaf blower works well also if you have one,
Wow! That was an awesome review! Thanks
great! We just got one today as a gift from the family.
Thank you for your review. I did like the Husqvarna tractor but now I will buy JD. Maybe Husqvarna customer service will get the message.
I believe the wheel indicater is to show if the chute is clogged and will no longer send grass clippings to the baskets.
Husqvarna representative: "why do you need to go backwards?" I would ask her: "why do you need to live your life backwards?"
If if this customer service was no joke, I would actually give her much respect for being able to get the job as a representative in the first place.
If you call customer service and they blow you off, you have the duty to go on social media and get the word out.
tc1uscg hmmmm well ok if that's the way people think these days..... personally if i went down that road i would make the issue known to public in a more informative way like "husqvarna has had issues with one of their mowers where the reverse pedal comes into contact with the mower deck so make sure you check for this when you look at buying a mower" or whatever rather than "husqvarna has bad customer service and the reverse pedal on one of their mowers comes into contact with the mower deck NEVER BUYING THEIR MOWERS AGAIN!!" cause it could be that just some people are not really cut out for customer service jobs and that should also be noted. i have spoken with many husqvarna people in various places at the company and they are incredibly informative and helpful.
tc1uscg but the "Deere" you get at Lowe's is really an MTD/Troy Bilt/Cub Cadet/Yard Marchine...
What are the similarities in the machines you mention ?
Hey there. Thank you very very much. This really informed me of what not to get. I appreciate you very much.
Glad I saw this video I was about to go buy one this weekend
46 is fine, 48 has three blades and causes buildup under deck and jamming
Very thorough and helpful review my friend. Thank you very much.
Excellent review and I hope Husqvarna not only reviews these points but corrects the problems.
Sorry to hear all the problems you've had with it.
They fixed that reverse issue in later 2016 models. The craftsmen models of 2013 dont have that problem. I've got both brands and they are basically the same mower.
Lots of valid points (the reverse pedal issue) and some whiny points (the "can't get out either side" issue with the bagger on... Really? Just stand up and scoot out.)
Thanks for the detailed review.
You have to go to the second click on the ignition to mow in reverse
Looking at a 2020 model. Has any of the issues been fixed since your model?
I'm pretty happy with mine so far. It turns on a dime and gives nine cents worth of change. I also like the fact it was built in a non union factory in a right-to-work-for-less state.
Lol
Right. Built by Slaves that have no RIghts. RIght-to-work is for Corporate GREED !
You could use a scythe. It's good to have your review. Thank you.
To avoid the horrible Husqvarna customer service, buy your tractor's version at Sears as a Craftsman tractor, that is what I have done ;-) I believe my model is a T3400
you should link this video to lowes and Hasqvarna website under reviews. good work, good video.
No, the wheels appear straight. You may have an alignment issue.
Would you please identify the bagger model #? Would you please itemize part numbers i.e. lower chute #; upper chute #; etc.. I know I’m asking a lot, but this info is not in owners manual or available online.
I would of liked to see bags emptied? How easy is it to empty bags
Mine goes backwards just fine and doesn't hit anything - 2021. Of course it's supposed to go backwards ... sounds like a ding-dong on the phone. I have had GREAT service with Husqvarna. Hopefully it's been fixed by then.
Wow, very good review ...
This video is hilarious!!! Pro, 2 or 3 things, cons Everything! I laughed all the way through this video
Thank god I bought a John Deere D140, have had it just on 3 years never had a problem with it.
My JD backwards safety switched work the same...cuts off motor not PTO. Also, my JD had the same gas sight gauge...couldn't see it either.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! _"WHY DO YOU NEED TO GO _*_BACKWARDS!!"_* 😆😂🤣
Thank you for your review. Can you share the number you called for Husqvarna? The height adjustment on my YTH23V48 purchased from a dealer is really poor in that I cannot get it to cut higher than 2 in. The dealer told me that has been a draw back that was corrected on newer models.
I started with their main number of: 1 (800) 487-5951
Husqvarna was the worst lawn mower that I've ever owned.
Thanks
Fenian Raid The JD tractors I've used in the past were good, although they are a bit pricey!
+jimginnyohio husqvarna markets that mower as the fast tractor
+Joe Maley I thought that Craftsman was built by MTD? Husqvarna is not part of MTD, but they use simmaler parts. Poulan, Ryobi, and Weed Eater are also MTD.
Trying to change oil filter, definitely not on finger tight. Now I am second guessing direction to turn it(This is my second because the first one fell apart & had to be replaced, long story) Help, just want to know direction to turn as dealer did change it last fall for tune to get it ready for spring.
Lerfty loosey
Use a leaf blower to blow the top off with
At feet flaps an deck then rinse off
I have a 2016 and reverse get stock straggle with that a lot only complaint I have to Husqvarna I have a lot of power though
seems like some husqvarnas are good and some are bad. i have a 2011 ariens riding mower with a briggs v twin 20hp engine, and 42"deck, made by husqvarna. its been an excellent mower. however i`ve read horror stories about some husqvarnas. whatever mower you buy, i recommend the engine be a v-twin .... single cylinders are no good when you have high horsepower in my opinion.. also stay away from kohler engines. do reviews before buying
went thru two in one week went up slight hill in front yard warped the frame and stopped. got a deere d140 great tractor.
To see the fuel level tip the seat up and it works
Most of these mowers including JD are made by MTD. Literally you take the body panels off and the frame and running gear is all the same. MTD makes average grade products. The key to dealing with this is to become your own service and repair for the mower. This seems unreasonable but in the end it makes for a much more enjoyable ownership experience. Also, you end up fixing things at a fraction of the cost and your downtime becomes negligible. Further, i never ever buy new equipment anymore and get mine gear at a fraction of the cost of a new machine. Just some sage words of advice from a gearhead.
Which replacement battery should I buy for my Husqvarna YTH 24V48?
Any standard 12 volt lawn mower battery should work. I picked one up at Home Depot several years back and it worked perfect.
Looks like I'm not buying a Husqvarna, what would you recommend if you could buy a new riding mower now?
faroff I would go to an outdoor equipment store instead of a big box store and buy a commercial mower. Not sure which brand I would go with since I haven’t shopped lately. You will probably pay more, but will get a better quality product and better support if needed.
@@jimginnyohio thanks
How to install the mounting assembly husckoverna
Hi guys, I have a GT48XLSi and want to know the best way to take the mower deck off.
Not true. John Deere delivers the exact same machines to the big box stores.
DIY Maniac www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/05/nothing-runs-like-a-deere-you-buy-at-the-dealer/index.htm
When I bought mine at John Deere none of the spindles are joints were greases
I ended up buying a Cub Cadet XT2 54GX for the same price as the John Deere X300 with a 48 inch deck. I got a larger deck and a beefier transmission.
I would NOT buy this mower. I can't believe husqvarna let design flaws past quality control. Wow. We have an older John Deere LA-175 (knock of wood) has been running flawless in the 6+ years we've had it.
great video. thanks
Need to go back and get a Cub cadet mower
People import them to Poland, pay shipment and custom duties and still manage to sell the mowers for about 35000USD. I want to live in the USA lol.
You have more bad things than good things so why did you buy it. But it is a good video. And I have a recommendation for your camera. You can also buy wind screens.
Well, I couldn't possibly have an opinion or experience with this mower BEFORE I bought it! Just like anything you purchase, all experience and issues were experienced afterwards. ;-) I'm simply warning others about what they 'may" encounter too.
jimginnyohio ok I’m sorry for doing this then jesus
Was going to buy one but I'll think ill wait
I don’t know how mad you got when you were on the phone with Husqvarna? But if they would have said those things to me I would have exploded!!!!!!
The Issues with not going in reverse because of mower deck level has been fixed.
Brandon penn Yes, I saw that during a recent trip to Lowes. However, it would be nice is Husqvarna contacted all of their customers with the faulty ones to resolved things. After all, I registered my mower with them after the purchase!
