Thank you for inspiring me to get back into painting. I have suffered depression in the past and painting always made me feel happy! So thank you sir, your videos are fantastic as is your attitude to life!
Woke up in the night so I turned on one of your paintings. WOW. This is one awesome painting!!!! I'm actually going to try it in acrylics and of course, not quite as large. Thanks for sharing all your talent and inspiration.
Absolutely admire your work Justin, painting has been a great therapy for me since my parents passed, I work 5 days a week and my weekend is spent capturing and painting landscapes
I grew up watching William Alexander, then Bob Ross.. Thank you for this video!!! Love It!!! Keep up the “Good Works” being an encouragement to other is so important, especially in this season of COVID-19.
Justin, what a special personality you have. Besides your great talent, you show a fun personality that comes through your commentary at the beginning of your painting lesson. Thank you for all your lessons, they are precious!
You are very talented indeed. I love all your videos. I would like to see a painting of a light house in a Maine type setting. I have wanted to visit Maine for some time just to see the light houses and beautiful landscapes.
Happy Tuesday Justin.. Always enjoy your videos.. Wanted to let you know that maybe you should do a PAINTING for your room.. (Black Gesso -something DARK ) something Just for YOU ..Big enough to cover your window. so while you're working you can hang it across the curtain rod and it would block out everything.. When you're done ,hang it back on the wall.. Just a thought... Thank you for all you do.. You are a magical wonderful person..
I like how Justin keeps his videos friendly. He could easily edit out if they don't start out smoothly. My favorite trees are Birch with all of the textures of the bark. If this painting was for the landscape, lots of waterfalls could've been added. Love how this turned out.
I regularly use 14 colors in my paintings; lots of pretty flowers. I think that is likely a Bob Ross carryover. I have never tried painting with just three colors, but that’s Up Next. Thanks for a great demo. Mountains always kick my tail. Maybe using fewer colors will be the difference between my wiping off everything with a paper towel and starting over and just finishing the work. Thanks again.
Absolutely stunning! You asked what we'd love to see...I'd love to see a dirt road beneath overhanging trees with mountain in the background...in the autumn! That would be awesome. With grass growing in the middle of the dirt road.
Another great painting Justin and same as others have said get blackout blinds and put a sign on the outside that says " Filming in progress please do not disturb " and if that doesn't work bud I will volunteer to stand outside the door telling everyone to "move along please "😀😁👍
Wonderful tutorial and such a gorgeous painting. This has helped me so much, Justin. At around 10:48, you said "I'm holding the brush straight on" while you were making your clouds. That one bit of advice changed my clouds immensely. I finally felt it and saw some happy fluffy, detailed shapes. The pressure needed was way harder, I was very surprised. Before that, I was almost in a rage that I still couldn't properly do "step one (the sky) after 6 months of practice. All I needed was some gentle direction. Thank you again for all you do, it really makes a difference to the beginners like me.
Hi Justin, Jen from Ireland here! I use a one way privacy window film on my studio window which doesn't stop the light coming in but give privacy, I got it on amazon for a few euro. Love your channel and I'm a new sub.. Hugs from Ireland ☺
Love your videos! You are truly gifted! I followed one of your tutorials and the painting looked amazing, gifted it to my best friend to keep as a memory.
Great lesson. Thanks. Aspen trees (autumn) and willow trees wiuld be great. Also, can you demonstrate how to make a believable rainbow? Really enjoying your channel.
I found some curtains on sale at Penny that are black out curtains. They come in all kind of colors and the grommets slide super easy. They are really nice curtains and easy cheap fix that work great. P S love the painting. Thank you Kathy
Your demeanor is getting to be so Fantastic!!! Glad painting is making a difference in your life....I know a lot of people that are going thru the same. I'm telling them to watch your videos....
Ps: look for room darkening blinds you can pick them up at Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot etc you can get them in plastic, paper or custom if done at Lowe’s or another place that does custom they can even add one of tour paintings on the outside so if the blind is drawn down that’s what people outside would see
Really like to see a class on Acrylic painting. I use mainly Acrylic in Hawaii because of humidity. Takes forever for oils to dry, plus easier and cleaner to take acrylics to beach.
Thanks for this wonderful lesson, Justin. The galkyd gel looks like it might be really helpful to retain that initial brushstroke and avoid mud. Beautiful painting and a very helpful lesson. As far as what I'd like to see in the future, I hope it's a variety. Different scenes, techniques, and skill levels that we can explore with you. I think most of my struggles stem from a lack of knowledge and skill loading the brush. I have trouble achieving leafy branch shapes that have form. Mine will either look like a blob or little freckles at times. The liner brush branches are still a problem as well. They always want to get bigger on me towards the middle or ends and then I have to go widen the bases to make them look natural. Also, trying to add any small details at the end of the painting (grasses especially) is another big problem I'm facing. The paint gets too thick to add any skinny grasses or fine details. It appears as though I'm not the only one struggling with these things, so that makes me feel a little better but I would like to find some solutions and correct my techniques as best as I can. Thanks again for all you do, it makes a world of difference to us beginners, especially!
Your videos are the best Justin! thankyou for sharing your tips and techniques, your talent is insane! I try follow along but mine end up looking like a dollar store version 😁 but it's always enjoyable
Justin I see what you are dealing with the glare We put vertical slat (thin painted metal) blinds in our large store windows and you can shut and open. After 20 yrs still look good. Think they come in plastic as well. Interesting how 3 colors are so dramatic just by shading. You are such an easy going painter and it makes it a really relaxing tutorial. I would like to see your take on an animal or a bird or duck. You are inspiring!
Justin! Thanks so much! What amazing tips! Your techniques are so amazingly helpful. I’ve struggled with the application of a base white for the wet in wet method, the other instructors I’ve seen say a thin even coat, even with wiping it down, I end up w mud issues, the Galkyd Gel and the Gamblin Gel are the way to go! I’ve been practicing and the (pulling or applications) of top layers are so much easier! The stiffer base still allows for wet in wet, but the application of of the top layers are so much easier as are the reflections, the fog at the base of mountains. As to what I’d like to see, barns, cabins, ruddy roads, fences maybe, big strong trees? Anyhow, thanks so much on every level! Have a wonderful day! (PS-I tried the 1980 Gamblin paints. Another winner-totally!)
My favorite kind of tree to paint is a tall leafy one using the heel of my 1 inch brush loaded vertically then inverted, pushing up to make the little leaves.
You could make a blackout frame, much like they did in WWII. Build a frame Fromm 1X2” lumber and cover it with like canvas, or any heavier weight material. In London they painted the cloth black, but since you don’t have to block every sliver of light, you could do whatever you wanted. It should fit inside your window frame and be light weight enough to easily lift into place.
Go to your nearest fabric store and buy several yards of just black fabric material that you can tape over the blinds and windows with some Frog tape. Easy to put up and take down!!
Hi I loved your painting and I'll definitely try it soon. I have been painting with water mixable oils by Winsor & Newton. I have had good success following most of your videos. Thank you so much for them. I haven't used any of the gel mediums you recommend because I'm not sure how they work with the different paint. I have been preparing my canvas with walnut oil, often mixed with white paint. i guess I'm looking for feedback about using water mixable paints. Have you tried them?
Love you as the person you are...Wish I could see you for real...Iam thinkink the same as you about the good thing about painting :-) Have a nice day .
Great job on this painting. Love the mountain. I am a beginner and am really having trouble with any tree. I watched ur video on how to paint these kinds of trees but I just cant grasp it. Most of his paintings are done in oil. But to answer your question you don’t have to lay down anything however to give the paint a bit of a grip and get better coverage your better off laying down a coat of white gesso first
@@bryananthony2080I knew most of Justin's paintings were done in oil, that's why I specified acrylic. He's done a few. Thank you for your reply. It was helpful.
Have you considered Smart Windows, or films for existing windows? Not cheap, but they will do exactly what you are asking. Here are a couple of links. www.invisishade.com/ , www.smarttint.com/ Your painting, and story, are an inspiration. Love watching you create your work and listening to you talk. I am glad you found painting and I found your site.
Hi Justin, Brendan Bradley over here in County Down, Ireland. Been painting with acrylics for a while. Painting landscapes, seascapes, pet and sporting scenes, but watching your oil painting skills, using the oils and colours. You've inspired me to start using, oils painting with the palette knifes. Really loving your work. I've a number of my paintings on my website bradspaints.weebly.com With living over here, we have loads and loads of Horse-chestnut, Beech, Ash, Oak and Silver Birch trees. Any chance you could pop up a video on, showing the different ways to configure each tree. Cheers again Justin Brendan (bradspaints) #savedbypainting #paintingisfun #enjoy #paintingbyjustin

love this mountain, I think its the best I've seen so far and with only 3 colours.
Hope you are fine and you keep going painting. You have a very good color feeling. I wish to watch more videos.

Love this one Justin. I would like to see you tackle a south western desert scene. 😁
Gorgeous painting! ❤️
another beautiful painting!!!

Have you done a mountain painting with aspen trees in the fall? Golds and reds?
Great painting as always. You can get window coverings or some kind of blinds like they use in resterants in jb penney or lowes.
This is great also reminds me of the good old Bob Ross paintings. Al
exploring with Al and ioan definitely a Bob Ross inspired painting. Beautiful 😍

They make a curtain that is called black out curtains and they do work, I have used them. You can get them at the Family Dollar or places like that. I would think Wal-Mart might carry them. That would work for you.
Can you explain using the gel a little bit more please Justin? In Australia I don't think we have that product and I am not sure how you are using it. Thank you so much :)
Look for room darkening curtains, they have like a rubbery back and it really blocks anything from outside, so nobody will be able to see inside even if lights are on, Walmart has them.
Curtains with a lining can be bought at Walmart. I use them for my dining room because part of my room faces the west. So try looking there or on line. They are not that expensive.
Justin, I can basically do the same with acrylic but I have to work faster on creating mist etc.
Throw in a few ocean scenes, with crashing waves, maybe the lone cypress in Carmel, some cabins, or covered bridges, maybe even a littke native american with distant tee-pees, and horses.!! Thanks for sharing this one looks amazing
Justin I just wanted to let you know your videos and instructions are very helpful. One questions. What fan brush do you use? What size, what is it made of, and who sells it? I have finally learned the trick to doing the standard evergreen trees but I can not seem to find the right brush. what brushes did you use before you had your own brush line?
Use a blackout curtain on a curtain rod
Hi Justin what is the name of the gel you are using and is it available in uk regards jase
Nice
Justin, I want to try this but I use Acrylics. Do you have any suggestions for me? Also do you ever use Acrylics? M. Joyce
Is this prussian blue? love your videos! Please dont ever stop doing them 🙏👍
How do make trees with leaves? I struggle with highlights on those.
Another great painting Justin as always. Your tutorials are so informative. Is there any way you can make a tutorial on how to layer oil paints correctly. I’ve been at it awhile now and still struggle when I have to add layers on top without letting it dry
Bryan Anthony absolutely I will do that.
Thanks Justin you are the greatest

Is that medium only for oil painting?

How to paint desert sand ? Please make video in future, thank you.
I’d like to be able to paint evergreens better. I’m still trying to figure out how to make my branches look more realistic.
Do you have to do any preparations when you use acrylic paint on paper? I want to get better before buying canvas.
Marene AuFrance I don’t think so. Not 100% sure but I don’t do any prep

Hi Justin, love your videos, but please keep the camera directly behind you, can’t see anything when it’s at an angle.
Have you considered Smart Windows, or films for existing windows? Not cheap, but they will do exactly what you are asking. Here are a couple of links. www.invisishade.com/

Your painting, and story, are an inspiration. Love watching you create your work and listening to you talk. I am glad you found painting and I found your site.
I have woven curtains so I can wash them.
Justin call Blinds.Com they have an expert that will help you. They are awesome people to work with. God Bless.
I've a number of my paintings on my website bradspaints.weebly.com
With living over here, we have loads and loads of Horse-chestnut, Beech, Ash, Oak and Silver Birch trees. Any chance you could pop up a video on, showing the different ways to configure each tree.
Cheers again Justin
Brendan (bradspaints)
