Hard to express just how elated I feel when a new video is posted!! I love watching your progress and preciseness in the construction/renovation of your home; fills my heart and brightens my day! Thank you for your explanations and reasoning for what and how you are completing each project. I am loving the porch with a mud area, water heater location, as well as washing machine. What a great concept!
Old Stan is continuing to be lazy while you work your tail off. That deck is a dream. I love the sunken area for shoes. Everyone will instinctively leave their shoes down there. Such a good idea.
That is a lovely deck Doug. We’ve been quoted nearly £7000 to do our garden decking. Watching you do this, I think I’m going to try it myself. Might have to watch the other videos again. 💙
Finished my morning coffee..started to shut off the computer to start my day…saw a big red X and saw it was you guys… OMG! I can’t get up now… I love you guys…. Porch is looking so nice. ❤💕❤
Love your work. Y'all impress me with what you can do and your willingness to learn something new and teach your children yet let them be kid's as well. You guys are just awesome
I would be tempted to add a retractable clothes line on the porch. So convenient and flexible. I have one in my basement. Great for rainy days. Your porch will definitely be a well utilized space in your home. In the late 1970s I bought a home with a 18x20 concrete patio off the back sliding glass door. A friend and I added a roof, RBB lower half-walls and screened mesh above. When I was ready to.move the realtor said that space was a $15,000-$20,000 added value. I then added 'repurposed' windows so it popped it up another $10,000'$15,000. It became a 4 Season Porch. Porches are a big selling point in the south, especially when bug-free. I do miss having a big, covered, screened porch. I imagine the night sounds from your wetland backyard would be relaxing.
It looks beautiful! I live in South Carolina so we deal with the humidity and heat also. So, what we did for flooring on our screened porch was ripped down 1/2" pressure treated plywood into 6" boards; so our boards where 6x8. We had already put down 3/4 plywood down years before that thinking of putting outdoor carpet. We decided we didn't want that. I wanted the look of a hardwood floor. So, I then stained each piece of the treated 6x8's, using several different colors of stain, in similar colors. When then layed the 6x8's out like you would lay down a hardwood floor. Everyone that would visit couldn't tell that it was a plywood floor. I would have to put a water seal treatment on it in the spring and fall, but it was beautiful. I'm thinking of doing the same thing on our new porch, that we plan to build, at our new place. A lot of work, but really cheap. Plus there was no shrinkage and the floor had no gaps.
You and Ashley have such a classy high standard ethic. For work and your persona. That is what this world needs. Refreshing and inspiring .thank you for sharing
Doug, “It’s getting chilly out”. 😂 You are starting to sound like a Floridian. Remember the cold in the Midwest. 😂 Another awesome job. Couldn’t be happier for you all. You will get so much enjoyment from this. ❤️
Looking great and so smart to screen the bottom. Going to be your favorite room year round. I love how you guys really do things different like with the porch water heater and washer. Working with your climate to fully utilize your space is not only smart but allows others to envision what they couldn't until you showed them. Now, you're going to hate me for this BUT for the full Florida porch experience please consider a ceiling fan. Ya just gotta! LOL
I think the choice of deck boards flooring your screened porch is a very good one . The grain in the boards is lovely , and the floor being different from that in the house marks this seating location as being outdoor oriented . If you choose rattan or something a bit tropical for seating the floor will really be the perfect aesthetic . Any furniture you choose will be perfect . In my view your choices are faultless. You’ve created a lovely room .
Wish I would have seen this before we built out little cabin. The screening would have been a great idea before we put the floor down. We get carpenter ants in the spring. They are everywhere. We will for sure do this when we build the outdoor kitchen/laundry /shower cabin. I learn so much from you all. Thank you. Take care, see ya :)
you find the best and coolest tools to do mundane jobs. i like to watch the things you try and discover. watching the old yucky boards being removed and seeing the beautiful new boards makes me happy lol.
I think the deck is a good choice. It will last for years and years. You can stain it, paint it, or like you said put a rug over it. I like it just as it is. Looks really nice. Almost there. You two are so smart and make such great decisions. Love how you make a home and consider things completely.
yea, paint and stain on a wood floor are a pain in the butt, because it will wear and you will find yourself constantly re-painting to keep it looking good. The outdoor area rug is the best bet.
I had a similar deck built for my house last year. I had the builder put two coats of an oil based transparent stain on the boards after about a month. My neighbor also used the same stain on his fence 5 years ago. The stain has held up well and remains attractive. I chose a brownish color.
Excellent job, Doug. You always think things through with logic and cost effective consideration. well done Love your videos and especially with your family in them.
I love the porch! It's going to be so nice to sit and relax out there. I really like the hidden screws and not having to worry about snags or dirt getting in the holes.
I can already feel the cool summer breeze in that screened in porch or sitting to listen to the rain on the roof. You are really going to enjoy this space. Well done!
Deck looks great. Smart using screening. Spring time is snake time so being able to walk out the door and not having to look down for any snakes is a plus.
I like the porch. If the kids are playing out there and spill something - no issues. It will be a nice place to hang out on stormy days. Keep up the good work.
The porch is going to be so wonderful for your family. I foresee hours of time spent together talking, eating, playing games and sitting out there when it rains. Maybe even porch sleeping during nice weather. Great plan & great work!!
The deck looks great Doug!! Your hard work is paying off. It won’t be long before your able to relax out there. Maybe a table and chairs…. Eat some meals out there. You can always use a indoor/outdoor carpet out there if needed. Missed you today Ashley!! Blessings to your beautiful family! ❤❤❤
Haven’t felt well so have been watching some of your old TH-cam videos. You always do good work, todays new video is no exception. Thank you for sharing your journey. I hope you all are doing ok.
Fantastic! Knowing what you rip down and now with all the new and properly redone deck and walls, this is great work. Lots of labor. So worth the result. Great job! Thank you for sharing.
The porch floor looks great!! I like the new “Camo” no splinters on feet will encourage everyone to leave their shoes on the lower level! Well done, Doug!
Doug, I don't do any construction/remodeling work myself, but I do lots of cooking in my kitchen. I have a lot of "specialty" tools that make the job so much easier and make me a more efficient chef, so I can really sympathize with your collection of tools, LOL
That is a really cool tool, I watched another TH-camr that used that tool when he was installing deck boards and I remembered it and thought how great you found that tool. I think that is looking so awesome, and so great that no bugs or anything can crawl up through the cracks inbetween the boards. I love seeing all of the progress you are making, thanks for another wonderful video, have a great day sending love and hugs, bye! 👋👍💜💜💜💜
Looking good.! I love the idea of a screened in porch. Knowing you don't have a dryer, it will also be a great spot for drying racks, if you use them. The lower level for shoes, boots, etc, is a great idea, too.
Doug the porch floor look so good. That will be so good for you guys. I love my porch. We use it all summer long. You will too. The kids are gonna love it. Great job. Love ya all , Granny
Hello my favorite family you are doing a wonderful job I love your videos I enjoy your journey on your house please keep the videos coming wishing you health peace and happiness 🥰🥰🙏🙏👍👍❤️❤️
You'll love the Camo once you get use to it. It will keep the screw embedded in the wood as it shrinks, won't splinter bcuz of the unique tip. Great for barefoot on the porch. Also makes the job go faster.
Hi Doug, Ashley and kids, It’s so good to see y’all today. Man that porch is one good looking awesome space that you guys will be making sooooo many memories! I love it, job well done as always! God Bless my friends ❤️
The decking looks great! It will be so nice to finally have a porch and space for washer and water heater! Another bunch of progress made! God bless y’all 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸
Grey water from a washing machine can be used to water plants instead of putting the water into your septic tank. We rerouted our grey water drain and added a hose after experiencing drought conditions a few years back. We can use the drain to the septic by simply hooking it back up if needed.
I really enjoy watching you guys build turning something old back new and beautiful again it’s going to be a sad day when there’s no more house bill hope you find him another old home to restore I watched everyone that you have done so far good teamwork husband and wife
Your porch looks like it will be a cozy space, I’d say your family will spend a lot of time there. I love my porch, especially in the summer that’s where I’ll be.
Loving the back to back videos!! I can’t handle more than a few days without you guys!
The lower, 'mud-room' level is very Japanese. It will save you SO much cleanup on your porch and in your home!
Hard to express just how elated I feel when a new video is posted!! I love watching your progress and preciseness in the construction/renovation of your home; fills my heart and brightens my day! Yes!!! I agree with everything you said here!!

Looks great! Going to be a wonderful room.😃

"It's even colder today' as he struts around in his shorts :-) The floor is looking great!!
It must be nice not to have to balance on the floor joists anymore 😂. Great work as always! 🎉
Finished my morning coffee..started to shut off the computer to start my day…saw a big red X and saw it was you guys… OMG! I can’t get up now… I love you guys…. Porch is looking so nice. ❤💕❤
Your videos need to be longer! What progress! I’m so absorbed in the process, it’s sad when it ends! Lol. TYTY for sharing! ❤️❤️🙏❤️❤️
Cutting the studs back a little bit for the washer valve box is a genius move. I wish I had done that.
Love your work. Y'all impress me with what you can do and your willingness to learn something new and teach your children yet let them be kid's as well. You guys are just awesome
How I love that porch. Great place to be on a rainy day or not a rainy day. Such a change from that dilapidated porch of before! Awesome work!!

When you do your job to perfection you’re always happier. The tool pays for itself.

Lived in Florida when I was a kid, it was literally a sleeping porch because we slept on it, no airconditoning back then. As a kid I loved it.

Exposed piping...I love it...sure makes life easier to see everything ...convenient, update, modify and tap into.

@@sandrasherritt9708 I like the old fashioned jute/sisal rugs. They wear like iron!
The deck turned out beautiful. A nice sealant stain would really look nice and add even more protection so it will last many, many years to come.
Excellent job, Doug. You always think things through with logic and cost effective consideration. well done Love your videos and especially with your family in them.

Ooooooh, that hole saw design is nice the way you can remove the core.

Thats a pretty cool idea with the screen under the deck for the bugs. Simple but looks like it will work great. Ill have to keep that in mind thanks!

Neat little tool. Nice not having screws under your feet and popping up after years!!👍
Your porch looks like it will be a cozy space, I’d say your family will spend a lot of time there. I love my porch, especially in the summer that’s where I’ll be.
