Ya, there is almost no world I don't go hacker into Turantula + Rino. But Hacker isn't useful if you don't win the chaff war convincingly and you have to be ready for the air pivot. Which either means you preempt the air pivot, or you have enough HP to lose a round to the air pivot. In the end, Thorrid was just one turn behind, which meant they were just bleeding a HP.
Yeah - think we found the checkmate line pretty cleanly here. Pretty sure he knew his goose was cooked which is why he surrendered fairly quickly on the final round. Hope you're having a great Christmas break Zerex!
Tarantula mirror you walloped handily.... sounds familiar! Loved how you communicated seeing the future (with the edrn assist). I'm a fan of tower movement when I'm in tarantula, works well with rhino too, though I admit rhinos are a hole in my gameplay.
Haha, yeah - it's one of my most practised matchups this patch for some reason! :D Move Speed is defo very important to Tarantulas, it's part of why Haste Module and Mech Rage are so good on them. Still like going Range first most games, but every now and again I'm actually going Spider Mine first - particularly into slow firing counter units like Phoenix, Sabertooth or Scorpions.
out of curiosity: where do rhinos fall on your list of liking/using them? personally I got burnt pretty hard off of using rhinos due to their not so great HP and limited ability to do stuff, but I still occasionally use them, esp. when the enemy puts his big expensive units up close or to the flanks (yes, kaboom)
Rhinos are an odd unit. They're like big beefy chaff units that can counter many chaff clear unit really well and buy time for your Crawlers or Fangs to get closer and cover the real carries cleanly. Often find myself taking Armor on them, even if I'm planning on selling them - because it's only 200 for +50% HP and immunity to light arms damage, which is worth it's weight in gold for a "chaff" unit. The free unit cards for Rhinos give you a lot of value, 3x200 cost units or 1xLevel 2 Rhino, both of which get huge value to the Armor tech. This in turn often pushes your opponent into a predictable and easily counterable line of play - either Hackers, Melters, Fortresses or Phoenixes. The first three are wide open to Overlord punish, and Phoenixes can be beaten by either Mustangs or Marksmen so long as you're winning the chaff war, which with lots of high level Tarantulas you're almost guaranteed to be winning by default. I do, thanks mate! Almost like a wonder I somehow got a place to stay at for the next 2 months so I don't have to panic regarding finding somewhere warm to stay. It legit came out of nowhere A bit miffed about having to spend Christmas alone but I'm glad to at least not be alone AND cold and wet
honestly, I find it kinda weird how rhino spec is giving you a drop on round 4 while every other 300 cost drop gives you one on round 3 (iirc it is only the farseer rn, or was sabertooth spec also level 2..?)
Yeah Rhino spec is quite a late arrival spec which makes it look a bit weak at first glance. It does give a 300 "value" unit, or even 400 if you imagine spending the extra 100 at the tower for Elite Recruitment to buy it at level 2. Combine that big tempo swing with high starting HP and it's very viable, even if you just use the Rhino for one turn on a flank and force a response and then sell it to turn it into a Tech on your actual carry units or chaff clear. Will admit I'll only take it with decent starting units though, no Mustang starts for me!
The overlord cannons seem to do a good job of executing hacked units as well. Not super on display here as they were mostly getting your chaff anyway but still
