    This week we continue Project Jigsaw, our 1960's inspired supercar project based on a Porsche Boxster. We get the front radiator mounted for the custom cooling system. Which poises many challenges. We also may have slipped a cinematic experience into this week's video... Come along as Tony and Ryan problem-solve the complex engineering behind this project, and take jabs at each other all along the way!

      Some segments of the project can be a bit more time consuming. How the radiator is mounted and where is important for other components on the car further down the project pipeline. So we needed to get this ‘right’ to avoid a bunch of steps backwards later on. You’re watching this build in real time, not a fabricated story for TH-cam. 🤙🏻

A little too much foolish banter and not enough progress so far but I believe this show has a ton of potential and upside. Im in for the duration of this project 👍🏻👍🏻

    Ever seen the clear kayaks? You could skin it transparent. Then have vinyl wrap over that with patterns and cut-outs and ambient lights underneath.
    I was starting to recommend leather but the other one would be much better.

This is my favorite series on YT because I've ALWAYS wanted to see someone make a custom car, and an in-depth demonstration of how one might go about doing it. I've always wanted to at some point in my life make a custom car, and this helps me see what I will need to learn to do it!

    Coachworks is a no-compromise custom auto builder that cuts all the corners, and everything else, only to maintain fluidity, cohesiveness, and logical functionality. Glad you said screw it and cut the front up to make it work and look like it was meant to be that way IF it came from a factory. 🤘

    I cant do well in school at all so im taking my dads 1998 chevy cavalier, making it a 2 door hatchback with the rear end of a 1998 Mitsubishi Starion, and making it mid engine with a 2001 Ford 6.8 Triton V10 and T56 gears put inside of a C6 Corvette Transaxle. Not sure what to do about the front end of the body though, ill figure that out as soon as i find one cool enough to work. I wanted to do something like that for a while and this series gave me the motivation to finally start. I was able to convince 2 friends and now we're saving to buy our own shop and mass produce them. I could really use some help with it, but thats not a conversation for this time or place. When we start i'm going to start posting the progress to my instagram and youtube, you'll see it at some point

    I'm not an engineer, but I question solid mounting the radiator to a collapsible bumper and then to the tub. Also, the front of that lower tub had to add rigidity across front end, I'd throw another tube across between the lower reinforcements. Coming along nicely overall.

    Although it might be not the correct materials for the time period you're aiming for, but what about a fiberglass duct for the rear of the radiator that is somewhat moulded to the shape of the tub? Something that can be removed with a few fasteners so that you can access the rear of the lower part of the tub and the master cylinder/fuel tank region.
    Gotta worry about inner fenders and how they integrate into the tub so a moukded duct at a later stage might be convenient

    PRACTICE MAKES PROGRESS. There's a T-shirt right there. As far as the radiator - I used almost exactly the same principles when I fitted a custom built rad into a GTM Libra V6... but less welding (fibreglass, see? :) ) We didn't even attempt to keep weight down (comfy GT spec) but it came in at 830kg/1830lbs wet, and with a little over 200hp from a 2.5l V6, it was a tiny rocket.
    Was surprised you didn't try to keep the Porsche cooling - it's incredibly well-designed and ducted, the three-rad style system for the 996 turbo/Boxster S *should* be able to cope with the SBF. However - it's a nice piece you've installed and it'll be interesting to see your hot-air exhaust ductwork.

    Hi guys! Loving the videos! I have a question as a viewer from the uk when this project is finished and the car is roadworthy, how does your whole insurance situation work over there? Over here in the uk we have to insure the vehicle and select what car it would be listed under, what modifications have been done to it etc. Which ultimately is a complete nightmare! Is it the same over there or is it much simpler?
    Keep up the great work, I always look forwards to watching each episode!

    Without question, you are exceptional engineers. My question is, would it not have been far easier to have built your own chassis to begin with? It seems to me by the time you finish you would’ve chopped off 90% of the original Car

    • @rubenwijtman2736
      @rubenwijtman2736 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would take way more time and money, let alone the headache they’ll have. This way makes more sense because the boxster is a proven chassis with great handling characteristics. If they want to build different control arms the original is an example for them, let alone coming up with, buying and installing things like the brakes, suspension, steering, windshield, wiring harness, gearbox and safety and chassis stiffness (the boxster is a convertible so it doesnt need a roof to be stiff)

      And what about the availability of parts in the future. If you use a known and well-functioning technique, long-term use is also guaranteed. Existing parts are generally more readily available than home-made parts.
