- I usually spend my winters partying for six months in a jungle, but this year? I decided to walk 12,000 km instead.

That's right-l'm walking from the UK to Vietnam.
That's 12,000 kilometers, across two continents, on foot. Just me, my backpack, some questionable snacks, and my chubby legs taking me step by step through this insane adventure.
#travel #vietnam #uk Why am I doing this? Simple-because I needed a challenge. Not just any challenge, but something that would push me both physically and mentally. Plus, I thought it'd be a good way to burn off the pizza and get out of some of my old habits.

Having done a lot of travel by bike I learnt that getting up early and doing as much distance before lunch means you can then have an easier afternoon, have the time to refeed properly and find camp for the night. Regularly going to bed late will quickly catch up with you.

Love the motivation for why you started it! And what a challenge it is, cause I can imagine it being rough both mentally and physically at certain points, but what a personal achievement it will be when you arrive in Vietnam. Safe travels!

@Chubbytrekka You went through my town along Will Adams Way! He was a traveller like yourself ;-) The first englishman to reach Japan and then wasn't allowed to leave. He has quite an interesting story tbh. Originally from Gillingham, hence all the roads and other places named after him around there. He was also apparently the third Englishman to get to Vietnam...so pretty fitting that you took that road :-)

When you come to water and theres no way around. Take your shoes and socks off tie them to your bag. Wade through. Dry your feet and put your shoes and socks back on.

Hey check out altra shoes if your feet are still bothering you. I walked the camino frances a few months back and i had to ditch my boots because they kept giving me blisters.
Altra has a wide toe box and your feet are gonna change a lot if you make it thru this journey. Take good care of them and good luck to you.
Also if you changing your socks out like twice a day can help too.

@@Chubbytrekka Good. I'll repost something similar every few days then. Don't get me wrong - I wish you luck and I applaud your spirit - I have never attempted anything even a fraction as hard. I just don't think you can do it. It's going to be monumentally hard and I believe the vast majority would fail. That said, good luck, and be safe.

So are you carrying a hammock and a tent? I have seen you use both even though you said you would throw the hammock out.
