I actually love how protective she is over the ownership of the character of Lou. That was such an interesting insight into how valuable the character was to her. And it actually looked like she hadn't really thought about it before and that opinion was a spur of the moment, organic reaction when asked that question.

41:46 There was a scene where she was talking to the nun she shared a cell with and telling her about her backstory, about how she left home at an early age and her family didn't care. I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned by the interviewers!

I agree 100% with Louise Siversen that Lou Kelly's departure from Prisoner was unbelievably lousy and anticlimactic, and was not in keeping with Lou's massively reckless nature! Lou Kelly needed to go out with a BANG! Nothing less than facing a line-up of SWAT commandos with Kelly attempting to shoot at them, where they all open fire with machine guns, peppering Lou with bullets; her red face grimacing wildly as she shrieks in anger and pain, and hair flying wild as she collapses into a crumpled heap in slow motion!

What I really loved about her portrayal of Lou Kelly was how well she played a woman who could often be so close to the edge. There was something so wild, so almost feral, especially in her eyes. You just knew that the character could become so brutal in a split second if she was cornered or pushed to the limits.

Not even giving Wentworth a watch? I mean several actors from Prisoner called it the "ultimate compliment' and several others named the 'Prisoner 13' appearing the show finding it so special.
I feel like people need to give Wentworth a go. Yeah its different so what, its actually pretty good if you give it a chance...

@@philiphayes6733 Hi Phillip, Thanks for your comment, We are in no way hating on Wentworth as we think it's an amazing Production and show but many fan questions are to the cast of Prisoner what do they think of the new Wentworth. Its very hard to compare the two shows as they are so different. What did you think of the ending of Wentworth ?

    • @philiphayes6733

@@TalkingPrisoner It was made to be different thats the thing. I remember when the show first went to air all the staunch PCBH fans were solid and decided not to give it a go until they did. I know a fair few of my friends who are staunch Wentworth and would say the same thing about Prisoner too...
I know its her opinion and these are fan questions etc and if she hasn't watched it so be it whatever, It just sounded like in my eyes she was so against Kate Box in a interpretation of a NEW ERA of character. That why its called a "legacy character"
I highly enjoyed the final season and episode of Wentworth. It was what I expected. Sad it ended but happy knowing it will live on forever.

  • @philiphayes6733
    @philiphayes6733 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I feel like its a bit unfair to dump on Wentworth and for that matter Kate Box when the amount of research that would've been done would've been so incredible Kate would've watched Louise's performances too. "Lou Kelly is mine" mentality just sounds really salty.
I feel like randomly hating on Wentworth when several other cast members have called it "A compliment" Fiona Spence called it "The Ultimate Compliment" and several others enjoyed it and were even apart of the show like Tina Bursill and Sigrid.
I find it so random to hate it when its from TWO COMPLETELY different eras and you feel like you own the character? As much as I love this insight its pretty salty when A) she doesn't like the adaptation and hasn't seen it and B) not seeing past her own eyes to see someone else playing the character.

Wow....don't know who is more bitter.....her or Val Lehman. "Lou Kelly belongs to me. She came from my body. From my psyche. (With the help of the writers). She isn't someone you can just pick up and put somewhere else." Actuallly, characters are often played by the different people at different times. Look at any successful production. Each actor brings their own interpretation but they don't own the character. She should take it as a complement that Wentworth recreated Lou Kelly rather than feel "disregarded".

Another fascinating episode with lots of behind the scenes intrigue and sone lovely comments about the great Anne Phelan.
I do feel Louise and Ian have been a bit harsh on Wentworth especially since Louise says she hasn’t watched it.
Sure there are problematic elements to the show, but it is explicitly meant to be a reimagining of Prisoner which fans have been crying out for years. It offers the possibility of telling stories that the original was not able to and offer alternative possibilities for the characters we knew and love. Wentworth’s Vera Bennett being the most telling example.
It does not need to distort any of our nostalgic fondness for the original. Prisoner exists and will continue to be remembered for its merits and contribution in its era. Wentworth is doing the same in ours.

I thought it was an interesting discussion. I have enjoyed watching Wentworth from the beginning but it did make me wonder for the first time - why exactly did they repurpose the names when several characters had very little (if anything) in common with their namesake? The actors and performances speak on their own without the need to tether or compare them to anything that's been portrayed before. And I wonder whether this will work for or against the enduring legacy of the show.

Wentworth was pretty good. And for the that reason I see why alot of the original actors were given other roles and enjoyed their time on Wentworth too. Several cast calling it a compliment, I mean as much as I love insights, Lou's towards Wentworth is disheartening.

Yikes. She sounds VERY salty 🧂🧂🧂
Does she not understand the concept of a reboot? Lou Kelly was not the only character to experience major changes to their storyline. She comes across as very... bitter here.
Didn't she say that she hadn't seen Wentworth too? How would she even know if it was good or not? Sounds like mad bias and a tad bit of jealousy. Big yikes.
I'd be honored if I were an actor and my role left a big enough impact to be revived. Oh well. I'll continue to enjoy Kate Box's BRILLIANT portrayal of Lou Kelly.

Very interesting how Louise is strongly expressing how different characters cannot just be acted out by different people, because Prisoner did recycle quite a few actors like soap legend Ray Meagher, and there were also some characters like Marty Jackson who were played by different actors. So at what point is it not OK, I wonder? Maybe when it's an iconic character like Lou Kelly? hehe

Louise is in the early episodes of Chances, before it descended into silliness. Those early episodes are now on DVD.
She played the secret wife of Eddie Reynolds, played by Dennis Miller (ex-husband of Elspeth Ballantyne).
Chances struggled in the ratings, not helped by the fact it faced two dramas in the original Tuesday and Thursday night 8.30pm slots - it faced LA Law on Tuesday and Police Rescue on Thursday.
So in a desperate attempt, Dennis Miller was axed from the show and Eddie Reynolds killed off in a murder mystery plot where half of the cast, including Louise's character, was in the frame for his murder. Didn't do much though, as not long afterwards, Nine cut the show to one a week and moved the show to 9.30pm on Tuesdays, which led to the changes later.

@@TalkingPrisoner Absolutely! lol. While I respect Louise Siversen as an actress and for portraying the original Lou Kelly, I don't agree with her that no one else can play Lou. I haven't seen Wentworth either, but Lou Kelly is a fictional character, not an unique real person, so just like James Bond, Lou Kelly can absolutely be played by anyone else who can portray the character's attributes and even put a different spin on the character. I'm sensing a lot of pride from Louise Siversen, as I have from Val Lehman, which is interesting. I do think that the original cast members know and are aware of how great their roles were in such an iconic drama as Prisoner, and are extremely proud of that to this day. I agree with Louise about Wentworth. I absolutely adore Prisoner, know it inside out, could name you every character, every storyline etc etc - I'm an absolute Prisoner anorak. You'd think that anyone who loved Prisoner that much would pounce on and absorb anything new that was related to it but I was never remotely interested in Wentworth however much it was promoted and I never watched a single episode. I just couldn't understand what the whole idea was of doing that. A continuation of Prisoner set in the same original Wentworth with new characters and a few of the old ones, played by the same people - THAT I would have watched - I would love to see it. Continuation - yes definitely. Remake - no way.
