I bought the A7CII, and absolutely love it. Finally have a camera that almost feels as nice to use as my old Nikon D750.
I highly recommend the SmallRig cage, though. It makes the grip so much nicer at least for me.

@@IRFAN-po5sz For me, I like it... I've settled on 20-24 megapixels as my ideal still resolution. Having more is nice, but I don't often crop in much, and am happy saving a bit of disk/transfer space not shooting 50+ MP :)
The 4K video quality of the A7C II is great, more than what I currently need, even in low-ish light. I save a little and invest that in a nicer lens!

I used to have the worst GAS. I would often buy camera gear, do an unboxing video, and then not use the new gear for my videos. In fact, I have a DJI Ronin RS 3 gimbal that I only opened to do the unboxing video and have yet to use it in real life. 😁It's even worse when we start talking about books. I "acquire" them and don't read them.

GAS is so real. As a professional musician, making a living in this industry can be challenging to say the least. Fortunately, pianos (acoustic and digital) can be pricey and take up a lot of room so that keeps me from constantly buying and updating them. However, being an audiophile and a lover of IEMs (in-ear monitors), they take up little room and it’s very easy to buy them thinking that somehow, every one you buy will sound “better” than the previous one you purchased. And I’m not even going to talk about ear tips and cables, and plug types…and DACs…and amps…and dac/amps….and lossless files……😫.

Late to the vid, but I just traded the A7IV for an A7R5 and it’s everything I wanted the A74 to be… here’s the coolest thing to me… I just bought a mini MF, FF, and APSC all in one… same for the A7RC. Being able to snag 26mp in Crop mode has revolutionized my lens collection. My 50-400 can now reach ~600mm in Crop mode, etc. Every lens has a 2nd option for me now. Amazing for travel etc… gives my smaller lenses more reach. To my eyes the downsampled 26mp look better than 24-26mp dedicated sensors on other platforms. As a guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist, graphic artist, and photographer, I get your GAS (and agree with how it steals time from the craft)… thankful we have 6 children to keep it in check :).

I have an A7IV and recently took the plunge and bought an A7CR for a more compact camera for travel that has higher resolution for still photography. I have a few other lenses but these are great for travel. Just buy it, you know you want to! 🤣

CAT says make it 9 since I have 9 lives. I have used A7R4 and also A7R2, I will say 61MP on A7R4,R5 and CR is worth it. I also have the higher resolution GFX but it is a bit too slow, I can forgive it for the stunning picture quality. I have no brand loyalty so my next camera is going to be Nikon Z8. On the Sony I like to know why they don't make a sensor shield, you know the thing that cover sensor when you power off your camera. I think 42mp sensor that went into A7R2, R3 is great why not making a new camera with that sensor. I also have GAS problem but with cameras I usually skip the mid generation models, it just appears to me that they don't represent major upgrade from the models they are replacing. For example A7R4 to A7R3 and A7R5 to A7R4, in the Fuji's GFX100Sii and GFX100S, there are improvement in the models but there are enough improvement to sell the old for the new with extras thousand. I don't buy newly release camera because I know the camera price drop as much as 25% a year after their initial release.

well if staying in the sony ecosystem is important, the a7c series make sense. just like what Becki from Becki and Chris did when she chose to get one because it is a much more manageable size and making it feel less of a chore to carry = using it more. But but if you are open to other system, well the x100Vi would be a much greater everyday carry camera although it's APSC and the lens is not wide, it does have IBIS and 40MP though. (and presume if you could still get in the preorder and wait for it to actually arrive). Another great option is the nikon zf with it's 40mm compact lens, but then again 24mp and not a wide lens.
As a fuji user myself, i still feel that the A7C series is rather clunky mainly due to the lenses being big and they felt imbalance to me but then again friend's around me don't really have a lighter compact lens for me to try. lugging around my X-T4 with my 33mm lens does feels clunky to me as well a time but i do not have the funds for X100Vi and my hands are too shaky to use X100v without IBIS. I keep my gas somewhat in check by playing with older high end camera bodies and vintage lenses. It helps if you don't have much disposable income, but mainly some of the older cameras are still absolutely amazing machines (I got my A7r2 for 900 bucks and it was barely used). Of course if money was no issue, I would probably also get that A7CR... I'd love a more compact body with all the latest features (one thing that sold me on the high resolution bodies is that you can use APSC mode with a decent megapixel count or even use APSC lenses for the lightest travel setups). But yeah, 3k is a substantial chunk... ;)

I don’t know a lot about cameras, but I always hear people talking about the best guitarist can make any guitars sound how they want it to And I think, regardless of what camera you have you create incredible content, so instead of approaching it from the angle of necessity look at it as a treat it’s OK to have things you want sometimes so I would suggest setting goals and using those things as rewards, but acknowledging that a camera is only as good as the person behind it I think your channel is amazing though so keep at it

Funny. An iPhone 15 Pro Max in a rig with Blackmagic or Apple ProRes does a heck of a lot. Doesn’t even need external mics for most uses as the stereo mics zoom with the lens.
My new Fuji X100VI is also a great ‘keeper’.
Never understood the Sony thing amongst younger users.
Canon is the top pro camera gear of choice for a reason, DSLR or mirrorless.
The L glass is stunning and has been for decades.
On a recent trip to China I was with a pro photographer. He only had an R5, a 50mm 1.2 L and a 16-35mm 2.8L. His images were superb quality. He thought my X100VI was about 85% of the quality and great for travel work.
He had tried Sony but junked it. Build quality, reliability, lens resolution……all worse than Canon pro.
Maybe a Q3 would be a pro alternative but far less versatility than his minimalist travel kit.

Oh yeah, GAS is a real thing. I've been working in tech for a long time, and I'm a photographer as well. I'm kind of a recovering GASser, though, having learned that upgrading your tech is really only necessary to match a skills upgrade. I got a new $3500 camera (final price with spare batteries and the protective filter), which was ten times the price of the camera it replaced, but it was pretty much ten times the camera. I needed to be able to do exposure bracketing, and i need to be able to take my images up to 12000x9000 for some of the sales I do. Is there a name for the syndrome where I take thousands of photos on a trip but only process them when I want to post them up for sale (maybe a year later)? Great series, thanks for the work you put into it.

I grabbed an a7c for basically the same reasons as an all the time purse camera and I absolutely love it. Once I can get an a7cr used for a reasonable price I’ll Absolutely upgrade to it. I think the 24-50 is an amazing lens combo on my a7c, it should be even better on the cr.

Markus of Markuspix primarily uses the RX100 for video (he has three of them). He is a visual artist by trade so he is very sensitive to color imbalances in the sensor. He bought and returned the A7 IV because of this and sticks with his several A7 IIIs (he bought and returned the original A7 R5 but then rebought it when they fixed the color science).

Umm Fuji x100vi? Sounds like that’s exactly what you’re looking for. I’m a dad and I captured my daughters first 5 years of life on the x100v and now have recently upgraded to the 6. The megapixel bump is absolutely perfect. Also captures 6.2k video with flog 2 and has ibis and Internal nd filter with a flick of a switch. Legit can’t go wrong for a EDC. Loved the video lol. We all have GAS. I say embrace it yolo. 💪🏼

If you think about it the Sony a7CR is two cameras in one, or I should say you get two lenses for the one prime due to having 26MP in crop mode. As a new mum that’s why I desperately want it, the iPhone is not good enough and the a7RV is too big. But that price though 😣 the struggle is real.

we defiantly need to be talking about GAS more, its been a real problem for me in my creative journey over the years, getting in the way of actually doing the thing its great for the fearful avoidance in me. iv been working for the last 10 years or so now on what I'm calling Essentialism in my setup where I have my core stuff but my general rule is now. use it or lose it. iv sold a lot of stuff over the last 2 years and it has made life much easer. do I need 20 pedals when 5 pedals and a laptop can do everything creatively that I want? at what point does having more things to learn to use become a distraction from creating and productivity rather than an aid to it. Working in audio, music, video and photography my wishlist for stuff will always be a thing but these days I'm limiting my self to maybe one or two purchases a year and generally also getting rid of a few things as my setup evolves to suit me needs. best lesson iv learned is that productivity and creativity are often enhanced by subracting and limiting options rather than adding. my moto is Simplify to find the sweet spot where work can flow. Getting in the weeds with tech or thinking about how much better this could be with this new tech, can all really divert me anyway from my original creative intent.. anyway. i really want that gretch guitar you have there.. beautiful! oh and a new Camera so I can crop more.. that can do the thing ,, that thing that I need to do now.
to Sara recamera: I mean I'm sure you should get it if. you sell some other stuff that you don't use, the other camera you talked about never using in the video. that's what 1/3rd of the cost right there? i don't know but I'm sure you could find most of the cost in things to sell that you don't use. :) and then I think loving the stuff we are actually using is important so balance GAS with essentailism what we don't use we sell so we can play with the cool stuff we will use. that's my solution anyway.

OM double G. You really hit a nerve. This used to be me. It really got in the way of growing creatively and learning new things. That said it also can fuel us. Personally what ultimately got me to rarely get anything was I became a minimalist and if I was around or felt I was over collecting and it gave me anxiety. Having less helped alot. Always be learning. GAS smells. LOL. Continued success Sara. Thanks for all your content.

My wife just bought me the a7cii for my birthday. I’m new to Sony, so I’m starting with the kit lens, but I have two thoughts. The small size is the draw for me. I’m ogling compact lenses to pair with it now. Can I live with a prime lens (sigma f2 iseries)? I don’t think the body is worth it if you chunk it up with huge lenses. I also don’t know that I’ll ever need more megapixels. My other camera is an R6 (less mega pixels) and I have never had an issue with those images. Ask yourself if you’ve ever done something with your images that properly needed that image size. Answer is likely no.

Nice Gretsch! Let me tell you, if you're a guitar lover you have an even bigger problem than camera love! And, now that I know you have guitars I really would love to see some guitar videos. I have a few myself. My long time friend is my 1970-71 Gibson LP Deluxe Goldtop. That was my band guitar. I also have a 1984 American Standard Strat and an Epiphone Sheraton that was a 50th birthday gift from my family. I only have one amp now. But, it's the one I've had the longest, my Music Man 120 and the 2-12 cabinet. I actually traded my 1973 or 74 Telecaster for it back in 1980ish. Got the Goldtop back then as well. Oh well, sorry for the guitar rant, but you started it!! LOL! Let see some guitars!!!! BTW, your baby is so beautiful. This video flashed me back to walking around with my children at that age using our Baby Bjorn. Loved that thing!! Have a great week and Rock On!!

I've been using my iPhone more and more for vlogs, just because it's easier to carry around and most of all, people don't give me weird looks when I vlog with it. I do still use my full frame from time to time, but I don't rely on it to be my only way to capture footage for my travels.

  • @AndreSjoberg
    @AndreSjoberg 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

heh, for me it’s quite simple, since I can’t afford anything else for my channel at the moment other than using my phone, BUT:
If the memories and moments are the *most* important, the iPhone is the solution. It’s more than good enough to capture those moments in time, and it’s *always* there.
If «cinematography» is the most important when capturing those moments in time (which it probably isn’t) then go with the 3000 usd option …
It boils down to a mindset and a hardline choice: Choose the iPhone and stick with it, nothing else to remember to bring, nothing else to focus on, those moments taking center stage. If one then catches oneself thinking «huh, I wish I had more bokeh on that shot of my family» then one needs to do a «videography detox» ;)
And use the clunkier gear for those «special» moments where photo/video quality is crucial, like christmas photos, anniversaries or a family bbq (I then usually limit myself to max 5 minutes pr half hour using the fancy gear to keep me present at the event (which *should* be the main focus) ;)

I mean the a7s3 didn't look that much bigger... I feel like the bigger question is what lens to take on those easy going trips.

Oooh I have GAS since the 1980s (Casio watches), 1990s (shoes, tennis racquets, film cameras, computers), 2000s (digital cameras, computers, phones).
But somehow in the 2010s I became stingy and I was content with what I had. I think I finally realized that doing something with the gear you have is more important than comparing your gear specs with the latest model. Sometimes the lack of opportunity to shoot (for cameras) triggers my GAS. Then I think to myself, "Do I really need new gear or do I just want to shoot but can't find the opportunity?" Always the answer for me is the latter.

I bought an A7CII to be my main camera (minus important events where I need two cards) and it just didn't fit the bill for portability. I don't have tiny sony lenses I have large primes, and i'm not willing to spend more money on lenses that I don't actually like that much. Plus I needed a camera that would give me great JPEGs, and the files that come SOC just aren't good enough, and don't transfer easily to my phone.
So I got an X100V, and that fits the bill as my every day/walk around camera.
I gave into the gas. Twice.

1 way I deal with GAS is just put the item nto the shopping cart, and kinda forget it. After 1 week, I will re-check the shopping cart and re-estimate if I need it at all. If I still want it after 1 week, I will buy it and usually the item is useful and will not be thrown away after a couple times of use.
