He felt like the perfect fit. Sainz would probably want a longer deal, but hed be much much more helpful in helping contribute to 2026 regs. Regardless Albon would have been amazing, what he's doing at Williams has been awesome to watch. Hes clearly learned and grown. Hes also someone that would be easier to let go after a couple years while Kimi develops if they're set on Kimi driving. Plus cheaper than Sainz. (either in F2, or F1).

Honestly since Red Bull will never promote Yuki i think the best option is: Give the seat to Danny Ric until the end of the season. If he proves himself there then keep him, if not then end his career. That way you definitevly see if hes still got it and you can basically guarantee Lawson a seat in VCARB next year or even a full Red Bull seat if Danny gets the boot. And thats me talking as a Danny Ric fan...i'd love for him to succeed but at this point i just wish he gets the actual top team test for even half a year and then either proves himself or retires.

Apparently Lawson was under-whelming in his Red Bull test the other day. It was reported by someone trackside for PlanetF1 that he was 0.2 off the benchmark Red Bull wanted him to hit. It looks more likely now that Ricciardo will be the guy with Horner being happy with his recent turned around form, plus also Tsunoda doesn't seem to have a future with RBR with his Honda link at Aston Martin.
If Checo does indeed end up getting benched, why not give Ricciardo (the only driver to ever push Max in a RBR) one last chance to see if he still has it for the 2nd half of the season. You can pretty much guarantee he won't be worse than Checo is now, so what do you really have to lose. If he is indeed past his prime, all good he can retire at the end of the year with RBR and they put Tsunoda or Lawson in the seat for 2025. If Ricciardo shows he still has it, great he can push Max and he is a solid 2nd driver RBR needs for the mean time, this also allows for the young guys coming up like Lawson to get more experience to replace him when he retires.

After what happened to Albion and Gazley, they will almost always default to have a new driver in the junior team.
If they pull Checo from red Bull it will cost RB $30m in lost sponsorships.
DR comes with his Optus telco, Pernod Ricard , Visa and ford sponsorships that well and truly make that amount up (and then some)
They will bring Daniel to the Main team as he drives the same set up as Max.
He will also be fast in that RB car which is suited to his driving style.
Lastly in the last 5 weeks Daniel has been way faster than Yuki.
RB has made some accomodations to Daniel regarding his recovery from a broken hand and arm.
But due to this he has done the bulk of testing new parts on the v-carb and been given mechanically faulty equipment for at last 5 races.
They have also given Daniel some terrible strategies and shocking Pitt stops.
On three occasions it has cost Daniel q3 qualifying

Red Bull's seat's going to Ricciardo, no doubt. I feel like they DON'T want a driver that'll be toe-to-toe w/ Max.

The biggest problem Liam Lawson has is that it's reported in his recent Silverstone tyre test he underperformed and failed to meet the benchmarks Red Bull had set. Now Isack Hadjar (also a Red Bull Academy driver) is leading the Formula 2 championship and there's rumours he's on course to take the reserve driver role for 2025. The hope Lawson has is that Red Bull drop Perez, that frees up a spot in the VCARB, but if it's a driver switch in where Perez gets demoted to the junior team then it looks likely that Lawson will have to find a seat outside of the Red Bull family.

Hear me out. Mick goes to sauber for that full german lineup, and kimi does another year in F2.
Alpine signs Kimi for 2026 as part of the engine deal with Mercedes, Max is moving to Mercedes for 2026 with George and then Mercedes can choose between George or Kimi for 2027.
The only thing missing to really upset the driver market is to see Max leave RB for Mercedes for 2025, for that to happen mercedes needs to win again until September.
We are in for a treat if Mercedes manages to win again before the summer break.
You would be foolish to not go for that Mercedes seat in 2025 especially if they keep going like this, i would argue it is a better deal than the second RB seat at the moment.
