    This table is a genuine Duncan Fife style. The 60s is the right time frame. I grew up in a house full of Duncan Fife in the early 60s.

      40s and 50s as well. My grandmother had that style dining table in the 40s.

      A little info to go along with your comment: Duncan Phyfe stopped making furniture in 1897.

    9:01 Wow!!! What an amazing makeover! Your table is absolutely beautiful!! I love your stain choice! I have this exact table that I inherited when I got married (white stains, deep scratches and all!) and I had never seen one before. I had tried everything shy of a complete makeover to cover the stains and fill the scratches and nothing seemed to help. Like you, I keep it covered with a tablecloth (which I love using too). How truly beautiful this table can be again. You have inspired me to bring my table back to its once beautiful self!!! Thank you!!! Thank you to all those who commented previously about the history of this table. I had no idea what we had!!!

    Awesome redo; like how the table legs coordinate with the dining chairs. Very much fits into a modern home while giving a nod to the age of the table.

    That table was definitely worth updating and restoring. You and your husband make a great team. I see why you did the legs in black--to match your chairs. Good idea. I also think your choice of that gray-brown was creative of you. A new fresh color palette. You made a big job look easy.

    I have the smaller version of this same Duncan-Phyfe dining table. I think mine was called an apartment-size dining table. It is just like yours, but only has two leg supports, rather than the three, and only one center leaf (plus the two drop-leafs). They're great tables, and well worth the time you invested to refinish yours. You did a wonderful job. I'm not usually a fan of painting antique furniture, but the black paint you put on the legs looks beautiful, and the dining chair you paired it with in the shot at the end are perfect. Nice job!

    I bought the exact same table at the thrift shop for $25.00, mine is in perfect condition. I like the black legs but I think the gray is muddy looking. It may look better in person .

    I just threw away that exact table 2 months ago. the leg was broken and the minute I put it outdide someone grabbed it. I loved the table and had it for years, but i could not find a leg replacement. Your table is the first I've seen like it with the 3 legs and I searched the internet. Good job.

    I have a replica of the Duncan Fife as well with 5 chairs. My table needs refinishing too. This tells me what to expect but I won’t be painting but staining again but putting a quality poly over the stain so I don’t have to use a tablecloth all the time. No more white stains. Use a piece of paper bag for your final sanding of last few coats. It’s better than sandpaper!
    Great job by the way! 🇨🇦👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    What grit sandpaper did you use?

    • @JuliesOliveTree
      @JuliesOliveTree  ปีที่แล้ว

      We may have used 80 grit initially to get through the varnish and then moved to 120 grit to smooth it out. But we may have started out with 120 grit to avoid braking through the veneer. I don’t remember for sure.

    • @JuliesOliveTree
