The thing about Turkish Delight…in comparison to Western candy that we all grew up with, it’s not great, BUT remember something, the kid who wants it hasn’t had sugar of any kind for like 2-3 years because of WW2 rationing. It probably did taste like something you might betray your family for. For me, my dream food is the food that the parents eat before turning into pigs in Spirited Away. Good never looks so amazing as when it’s animated by Studio Ghibli.

I hard agree with the Spirited Away buffet, but I am a huge sweet tooth and good Turkish delight is amazing. You just have to get the real stuff, and the fresher the better. I've had good and bad Turkish delight, and I feel like most people have had stale or imitation Turkish delight.

First off, Turkish Delight is an A+ choice. A lot of Narnia fans are disappointed when they finally try some, but I absolutely love it. Even in my mid-30s, it's a treat that my parents will gift me every Christmas and when I make a trip to World Market or when I travel to Instanbul, it's an automatic buy. I love the stuff and I totally understand Edmund betraying his family to get some more. 100% would also do that. I have to say though I'm disappointed there weren't more adventurous choices in Ryan's or Shane's lists...no Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters from Ryan or Soylent Green from Shane? Totally sleeping on those controversial choices, my dudes.

Turkish delight isn't like jell-o, it is sort of a jelly but dense and more sticky/chewy. It can be all sorts of flavours but I think the most popular one is rose. It's covered in a mixture of powdered sugar and starch that for some reason tastes cool (as in cold) to me. And the scene in Narnia is not about the candy being forbidden, it has to do with the fact that Edmund is essentially selling his siblings for candy from a stranger. And in that too there is important context to understand. The book and movie take place during the war so candy is not something that is available to the kids so Edmund probably has not had candy in a very long time and it probably reminds him of the time before the war.
It is absolutely criminal that not one person had any Studio Ghibli food on their lists! No real life food can replicate how good the food in those films look!

The thing about Turkish Delight…in comparison to Western candy that we all grew up with, it’s not great, BUT remember something, the kid who wants it hasn’t had sugar of any kind for like 2-3 years because of WW2 rationing. It probably did taste like something you might betray your family for.
For me, my dream food is the food that the parents eat before turning into pigs in Spirited Away. Good never looks so amazing as when it’s animated by Studio Ghibli.

First off, Turkish Delight is an A+ choice. A lot of Narnia fans are disappointed when they finally try some, but I absolutely love it. Even in my mid-30s, it's a treat that my parents will gift me every Christmas and when I make a trip to World Market or when I travel to Instanbul, it's an automatic buy. I love the stuff and I totally understand Edmund betraying his family to get some more. 100% would also do that. I have to say though I'm disappointed there weren't more adventurous choices in Ryan's or Shane's lists...no Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters from Ryan or Soylent Green from Shane? Totally sleeping on those controversial choices, my dudes.

Turkish delight isn't like jell-o, it is sort of a jelly but dense and more sticky/chewy. It can be all sorts of flavours but I think the most popular one is rose. It's covered in a mixture of powdered sugar and starch that for some reason tastes cool (as in cold) to me. And the scene in Narnia is not about the candy being forbidden, it has to do with the fact that Edmund is essentially selling his siblings for candy from a stranger. And in that too there is important context to understand. The book and movie take place during the war so candy is not something that is available to the kids so Edmund probably has not had candy in a very long time and it probably reminds him of the time before the war.
